c46 – The Challenge of Two People
On Earth
"Lin Hao, you're incredible you actually defeated Syn Shenron so easily!"
Son Goku and the others flew toward Lin Hao as Gohan spoke excitedly.
"Haha, I was just lucky, Goku. You'll definitely surpass me someday. By the way, the seven Dragon Balls are over there, I think you all need them far more right now."
Lin Hao pointed toward the restored Dragon Balls gleaming among the broken stones of West City.
The Earth's Dragon Balls meant nothing to Lin Hao; ever since he had trained in the divine realm beyond even Beerus's reach, he had no wish left to use them. It was better to let Goku and the others guard them.
"Yes, you're right. After everything Omega Shenron did, we really need Shenron's power again."
"Thank you so much, Mr. Lin Hao!"
"Yeah! If you hadn't stepped in, we might never have stopped the Shadow Dragons at all!"
Gohan and Trunks both bowed deeply.
Yet the most grateful of all was Gohan, who thought of Videl, Pan, and the peaceful Earth he cherished. Without Lin Hao's intervention, even his Ultimate form would have been useless.
"No need for thanks," Lin Hao said, waving casually. "I just can't stand beings who destroy worlds whenever they're angry. I'll never show mercy to people like that."
"I've got to admit, Lin Hao," Goku said with a grin, scratching his head, "your power's unbelievable! I thought that blast against Omega Shenron was your limit but you were still holding back, weren't you?"
He chuckled. "I never imagined there'd be someone in this universe stronger than a Super Saiyan 4. I really want to test myself against you!"
When Goku first met Lin Hao, he'd already wanted a match. He had even heard Vegeta grumbling about how Lin Hao had utterly crushed him in their brief sparring bout after returning from Hell.
"Oh? You want to fight me? That's not impossible," Lin Hao replied calmly. "But with your current strength, it would be too one-sided. If you fused with Vegeta then it might be worth my time."
Though Goku wasn't yet strong enough, Lin Hao knew the Saiyan's potential was infinite. In every era Z, GT, and Super each new threat pushed him far beyond his limits. After all, in Super, Goku had already awakened the Ultra Instinct state that even the Gods of Destruction struggled to master.
In fan retellings and side stories, he'd even achieved forms beyond Super Saiyan 4, such as Super Saiyan 5, where his control was absolute.
"Huh? Fuse with Vegeta again?" Goku turned toward his rival. "That might be tricky…"
"Hmph! Don't even think about it, Kakarot!" Vegeta barked. "Now that the Shadow Dragons are gone, I'm done here!"
With a burst of golden ki, Vegeta shot skyward and vanished into the horizon.
"Haha! You see, Lin Hao?" Goku laughed helplessly. "Vegeta's still the same as ever!"
"Then there's no other way. It'll be hard for you, Goku, to face me with your current strength. Unless you push Super Saiyan 4 to its full-power state, you won't be able to fight me."
After Lin Hao said this, his aura surged like a blazing sun, and he soared into the sky, vanishing into the horizon.
"Super Saiyan 4 Full Power? That's tough… I've only reached the stabilized stage so far."
Son Goku said in frustration. Even for him, achieving the perfected Full Power Super Saiyan 4 form was no easy task, it required immense ki control and continuous transformation training.
I am the dividing line
A few days later, atop a desolate mountain peak.
"Uh-huh!"
Son Goku and Vegeta suddenly appeared, landing side by side with bursts of crimson ki.
"Huh? Goku, Vegeta so you're here already. Have you made up your minds?"
Lin Hao opened his eyes slowly, sensing their power. Goku had reverted to his adult form through Saiyan tail energy, while Vegeta radiated his own newly achieved Super Saiyan 4 aura.
"Yes! Vegeta can now sustain Super Saiyan 4, thanks to Bulma's Blutz Wave Generator. After days of pestering, he finally agreed to use Fusion with me!"
Goku grinned brightly as he explained.
"Hmph!" Vegeta folded his arms, scowling. The past few days of Goku's constant nagging nearly drove him insane, but he couldn't deny his own desire to test Lin Hao's strength.
"Oh? Interesting. Then we'll need a place strong enough to withstand our energy. The Earth would be vaporized by our battle."
Lin Hao smirked knowingly. He understood that Vegeta's Super Saiyan 4 was created artificially through the Blutz Wave device, making it slightly unstable compared to Goku's natural transformation.
"Then where should we duel?"
Goku tilted his head curiously.
"The Sacred World of the Kai."
Lin Hao placed two fingers on his forehead and, in an instant, used Instant Transmission to bring them all to the realm of the Supreme Kais.
"Uh-huh!"
"Hey, Supreme Kai-sama! We'd like to borrow your world for a quick match!"
Goku waved cheerfully to the elderly Supreme Kai, who immediately panicked.
"Are you crazy?! If you fight here, you'll tear this realm apart!" the Old Kai shouted furiously.
"Alright, you two let's begin."
Ignoring the Kai's protests, Lin Hao faced the Saiyans, his eyes filled with anticipation. The legendary Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta even he was eager to witness such a being.
"Hmph! Ready, Vegeta?"
Goku's body flared in scarlet light as he assumed his Super Saiyan 4 form once again.
"Tch! Just get on with it. Don't make me regret doing this ridiculous pose."
Vegeta snorted coldly, though he, too, radiated excitement.
"Alright!"
The two stood about three meters apart, arms raised, stepping in perfect rhythm.
"Fu…"
"…sion!"
Their movements, breaths, and auras synchronized flawlessly, as if mirrored reflections.
"Buzz!"
When their fingertips met, a blinding light exploded across the Kai's realm.
In an instant, golden energy spiraled skyward, pulsing with streaks of crimson lightning.
Different from ordinary ki, this golden aura glittered with tiny starbursts proof of an overwhelming fusion power.
"What astonishing energy! As expected from the ultimate fusion warrior!"
Lin Hao's expression grew serious as he felt the pressure shake the entire realm.
"So…so incredible! This is the fusion of Goku and Vegeta?!"
Kibito Kai stammered in awe.
"You fool!" the Old Kai barked, smacking him on the head. "Don't just gawk they're going to fight here! Do you have any idea what that means for this world?!"
"Ah! R-right!" Kibito Kai trembled, realizing too late the scale of destruction about to unfold.
