Valentina, at a loss of words, just stared at him.
"You seem surprised to see me," he said.
She still didn't know what to say, so she just stared.
"Okay. I'll leave."
He turned his back to leave, hoping she would stop him.
She didn't.
He opened the door and walked out of the room.
Valentina released the breath she was holding.
She hurried into the bathroom and buried her back on the wall.
Her lips began to quiver and before she could control herself, she burst into tears.
Covering her mouth with her hand to stifle the tears, she cried hard.
She cried until her body crumpled to the ground. Even then, she didn't stop crying.
The more she cried, the more she wondered why she was crying.
Somewhere in-between, she had forgotten the genesis of her tears.
She just knew her chest hurt so badly, she thought her heart would shatter at any second now.
Valentina was sprawled on the bathroom floor when Sonia, who had been calling out her name, found her.
