Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

Athènia's POV

I had a wonderful night. I didn't feel a single trace of the pain of betrayal; all night I felt at peace. I don't even know why the vampire didn't sleep with Vera. She and the Alpha hate me, though I don't know exactly why.

Oh, but of course I do know. The vampire is naturally drawn to me—because I'm his mate. And the Alpha? I'm sure she's been tasked with killing me at any moment. What she doesn't realize is that a hybrid can only be killed by another hybrid. She's in for a shock when she sees me.

And yes, today is the day of our trip. I'll be giving the Alpha quite the shock. I get up, head to the bathroom, shower, and slip into my long white dress. Yeah, I know—I'm obsessed with white.

When I leave my room, Mara is already ready. She sees me and smiles.

"Well, look who decided to show up." cheered Mara

"The queen has returned." I said dramatically

We both burst into laughter, just as Asher and Garth enter.

"Seems like the mood here is pretty cheerful." said Asher

"Of course. The Alpha strongly believes you're dead and buried." said Mara

"So,little cousin, do you feel better now?" said Garth

"Better than ever." I said

"Father called me. He said he wants to see you." informed Garth

"When?" I asked

"When he's free, which means…" said Garth but I interrupted her

"Never." I said

We all burst out laughing.

"Hahaha, calm down, Lis. He's my father and your uncle." said Garth

"We should get going before we're even more late." said Mara

We leave the apartment together.

"So, Lis, we discovered something important." said Asher

"What is it?" I asked

"It seems the vampire hooked up with the Alpha." said Garth

My mouth drops slightly in shock.

"That's impossible. I didn't feel any pain yesterday." I said

"Maybe because she's a wolf." suggested Asher

"But no matter the race, you can always feel the pain of betrayal." said Mara

I think for a moment. But… oh no. This can't be true.

Kora sighs.

" She's his mate too." said Kora

"What the hell? but why?!" I said

"You're thinking what I'm thinking." said Mara

"Obviously." I said

"Care to share with the class?" said Asher

"The Alpha is also my mate's companion." I said

Asher and Garth exchange a shocked glance.

"How is that even possible?!" said Garth

"Normally, males born on the same day share a mate—though it's extremely rare. Just like how a guardian she-wolf can have multiple mates. But apart from that, I've never heard of girls sharing the same mate. Even twins usually each have their own. So I don't see how the Alpha fits into this." I explained

We arrive at the garage. Asher drives, since I plan on making an entrance. The ride is loud and full of laughter.

" I just spoke to the goddess." said Kora

"And?" I asked

Kora sighs again.

" The vampire is also the Alpha's mate." said Kora

"Did she say why she bound me to him?" I asked

" She didn't. She only said we'll discover the reason in time." said Kora

"Of course. As always." I said

We stop in front of the forest, where we'll be camping. I can already imagine the Alpha's face when she realizes I'm not dead. We get out of the car, with Garth, Asher, and MJ walking slightly ahead of me, shielding me from sight.

"Athènia." called Kendrick

"Don't be ridiculous. She's gone." said the Alpha

Garth steps aside, revealing me to everyone. The Alpha looks visibly shocked—exactly the reaction I expected.

"Athènia." sid Kendrick

"I'm sorry, Mr. Ken. I was sick." I said

Kendrick smirks.

"Funny. They said you were gone." said Kendrick

"And we're sorry about that, Mr. Ken. She asked us not to tell anyone because she didn't want to disturb others the way she felt she was disturbing us." said Mara

"Now that you're here, I won't be bored anymore." said Kendrick

"I'm sure you won't." I said

I smile at him, but I can feel my mate's jealous gaze burning into me.

"Since you've all arrived, you can team up. Four of you together." said Kendrick

"No need to argue—we'll stay together." I said

"Fine. But the others will stick to girls with girls, boys with boys." said Kendrick

Whispers ripple through the students, rumors spreading that I must be sleeping with the professor to be his favorite. I couldn't care less. Ken hands out cabin keys, and the four of us stick together.

Once inside our cabin, I sit down—and immediately, another vision takes hold.

" "So, Tevi, have you made your decision?"" said a man

I see the man killer who killed Dracos and that man.. Now he stands before another man who looks like Ken,the man's name is Tevi and Tevi is in terrible shape. I realized Tevi and Kendrick is the same person

"This is really stupid." said Kora

"Since when can you see the same vision I do?" I asked

" Since right now." said Kora

"I've only ever been a tool to shape the future Supreme into a fighter. I always knew I'd die one way or another." said Tevi

"So your choice—is it to die for this woman?" said the killer

"She is not just a woman. She's the future of all hybrid races. She's the chosen one we've awaited for centuries. My duty is finished. It's time for someone else to continue guiding the Supreme." said Tevi

"Tevi, stop dreaming. I will kill this chosen one myself." said the killer

"She was born to win." said Tevi

"And I was born to destroy her. Don't worry, though—your death won't be as painful as hers." retorted the killer

The blade drives straight into Tevi's heart. I slap a hand over my mouth as the vision fades.

Mara grips my shoulder.

"Lis, are you okay? You froze up." said Mara

I blink, trying to steady myself. Garth is already watching me with that I-know-everything look.

"You had another vision, didn't you?" asked Garth

I nod, still shaken.

"Are you alright?" asked Mara

"It was Mr. Ken." I replied

My voice trembles.

"What happened?" asked Asher

"He's not really Kendrick. He's Tevi WARRENS ." I replied

Mara raises a questioning brow.

"What do you mean?" asked Mara

"He's been tasked with teaching me to defend myself. And he's going to die at that man's hands." I said

The image of it still burns in my mind.

"The same man who killed Dracos, I suppose." said Garth

"Yes. But I won't witness Tevi's death. With Dracos, I will." I said

"Wait—if you can see them dying, doesn't that mean you can prevent it?" said Mara

"Unfortunately, no. Even if we know what's coming, their deaths are inevitable. We might change how they die, but not the fact that they will." explained Garth

I lower my gaze.

"Lis, don't worry. It's their destiny." said Kora

"But their destiny is to die protecting me. Tevi will fall shielding me from the truth being discovered. And Dracos will die protecting me too." I said

" I know it's hard. But it's fate. And we must accept it if we are to grow stronger, Lis." said Kora

"If it truly is fate, why does it have to be so cruel? And who wrote this cursed fate, anyway?" I said

Mara lays a hand on my shoulder.

"Are you okay?" asked Mara

"Not really. Knowing that two people must die just so I can defeat the real enemy…" I said

"And what did you expect? A war without death? Without wounds? Wake up, Athènia. This isn't a perfect world where peace reigns." interrupted Garth

"Garth, don't be so harsh." said Asher

"No, he needs to hear the truth. Athènia, there will be deaths. And you yourself will have to kill." said Garth

I stare at him, not understanding.

"Did you think your enemy would only be imprisoned? Wake up, Athènia. If the goddess told you that only a hybrid can kill another hybrid, it's because she expects you to use that against him. And how else will you do it?" said Garth

Like a flash, it hits me. For peace to come, I will have to kill evil itself.

I stand.

"Then I'll be ready." I said

If that's what it takes, I'll be ready. For the peace of the supernatural world, not even hell itself will stop me. Fate can show up if it wants—let it go to hell. Because I will kill the darkness, and I will give hybrids a place in this world. That will be my destiny.
