"How did you do that?" Ethan asked Morin, not even bothering to look at the fallen Jim. Morin's actions had seriously impacted his worldview as well.
"As you can see, I predicted the bullet's trajectory and then swung the wrench," Morin said, twirling the wrench.
"Do you want to see a magic trick?"
"Huh?" Ethan was stunned.
"Clang, clang!" Morin suddenly clapped his hands together, then opened them. The wrench was gone.
"Alright, the magic trick is over. So... where's the thing I need?"
Morin wasn't about to explain the principle behind his actions to Ethan.
Should he tell him his physical body was completely different from an ordinary person's?
Of course, the ten million dollars was more important!
"What thing are you looking for?" Claire finally found a chance to speak.
"Money, Agent Claire. Did you forget what I said earlier?
I'm an IRS agent. I'm here for money. What else would I be here for?" Morin said, shrugging.
Claire looked at Ethan. She sensed something wasn't right.
How did Ethan get in touch with this IRS agent? When did they make this deal?
Why didn't she know anything about it?
Claire realized that the situation was not as simple as she had originally thought!
"It's here," Ethan said, ignoring her. He bent down and took an envelope from Jim's chest bag, handing it to Morin.
"Ten million US dollars, US Treasury cash coupons, including interest. It can be cashed at any time."
"Excellent. It seems our collaboration is now successfully concluded."
Morin took the envelope, opened it to check the contents, nodded in satisfaction, and then put the envelope inside his coat, which was actually his storage space.
"Your parents are currently on vacation in Hawaii. I've given them enough money and assigned a dedicated person to protect them. You don't have to worry."
"As for your innocence," Morin smiled. "The IRS is about to have a friendly exchange with the CIA, and our operation is the beginning of that exchange. An IRS agent and a CIA agent have worked together to capture a CIA traitor. Everything has ended perfectly. How does that sound?"
"Sounds good," Ethan said, nodding and looking at the unconscious Jim on the ground. "But, to be honest, I don't really want to go back."
"This isn't a matter of what you want. Especially after they discover your abilities, believe me, your superiors will not let you leave." Morin patted Ethan's shoulder.
"Running away won't solve the problem. You can only learn how to face it."
"For example, right now, isn't there a problem you're
about to face?"
Morin hinted, "It's up to you to decide what role Agent Claire played in this operation, Ethan."
With that, Morin walked out, left the baggage compartment, and closed the door. He had another matter to deal with.
Morin walked over to Max. In reality, even without Luther intercepting the signal next to Max, Max wouldn't have had a chance to transmit the list.
In the backpack Morin had left on the seat, there was a signal jammer, which he had turned on when he left his seat to go to the baggage compartment.
The new jammer from the IRS equipment department was very powerful, blocking all signals within a twenty-meter radius.
Max naturally didn't have a chance to succeed, unless she had her subordinates run around with the computer to find a signal. They currently thought the signal generator was broken.
With Morin's intervention, Ethan didn't contact the IMF to have Eugene come and arrest them as in the original story.
Since Eugene didn't come, someone else had to arrest Max, and that person was Morin. The ten million dollars was a deal Morin made with Ethan, not with Max.
Therefore, arresting Max would not affect the money being converted into experience points.
Morin's initial plan had finally come to a successful
conclusion.
As for why the ten million hadn't been added to his experience points yet, Morin guessed it would have to wait until the deal was completely finished and Ethan's parents were safely returned to him.
However, Morin wasn't in a hurry. The money was already in his hands, so the experience points weren't going anywhere.
As for now... Morin returned to his seat, picked up his bag, and went straight to Max, who was anxiously urging her subordinates.
He sat in the seat opposite her, opened his bag, and started looking for something.
"..." Max looked at Morin a couple of times, a little confused. Was this person in this seat? The train had been traveling for so long, he couldn't have just gotten on.
"Ma'am, why do you keep looking at me? Although I am indeed handsome, it's rude to stare at others like that."
Morin took out a black, speaker-like device from his bag and said to Max.
"...My apologies." It took Max a few seconds to understand what Morin was saying. She felt speechless inside, but politely apologized on the surface.
"It's okay, I'm a very generous person," Morin said, placing the device on the table in front of him and pointing at it.
"I'll forgive you if you buy this."
"Wha... what?" Max was confused.
"You don't need it?" Morin asked. "It's really very useful."
"...No." Max hesitated and shook her head. Given her status, she had never encountered a salesman before.
"Perhaps I forgot to mention what it is, and that's why you're making such a hasty decision." Morin said calmly.
"After I tell you about the origin and function of this product, I think you'll be willing to pay a high price for it."
"What do you mean by 'high price'?" Max asked, slightly disdainfully.
She was a tycoon who could spend ten million dollars with a wave of her hand. Using the term "high price" in front of her? Max found it a little funny.
However, Morin's next sentence froze her condescension completely.
"I mean, ten million dollars," Morin said, enunciating each word slowly.
The subordinate who had been operating the computer also stopped what he was doing and subtly moved his hand toward his waistband.
The amount, ten million, was a bit too coincidental for them.
"I'm sorry, I don't seem to understand what you're talking about?" Max forced a smile, still holding onto a sliver of
hope that this man was just talking nonsense.
"You don't understand? Well, that's okay. I'll start by introducing the features of my product." Morin patted the instrument in his hand.
"This is the next-generation signal jammer developed by the IRS equipment department. It can block all signals within a twenty-meter radius. It's powerful, portable, and can operate continuously for ten hours, which is more than enough to get you to the IRS interrogation
room."
"With those features, do you think it's worth ten million dollars?" Morin asked with a smile.
