Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Face to Face

Everyone stared at the glass wall with the same expression:

'Oh shit!'

Allison whipped around toward Scott, panic rising.

"Can somebody please explain what's happening?! I'm about to lose my mind, and I'd really like to know why!"

Scott didn't answer.

He just stood there, torn, eyes darting everywhere but her face.

Then with a frustrated groan, he pushed away and leaned over a desk, hands gripping the edge, trying to think—trying to lie.

"Scott!" Allison snapped.

Stiles stepped in before Scott could crumble.

"Someone killed the janitor," he said bluntly.

"What?" Lydia gasped, her voice going small.

"Yes," Asher confirmed, stepping closer, tone serious. "He's dead."

Allison shook her head. "W-What are you guys talking about? Is this—please tell me this is a joke."

"Who killed him?" Jackson asked, the fear slipping into his voice despite himself.

"No, no, no…" Lydia whispered, starting to spiral. "It was supposed to be over… the mountain lion was caught and—"

"You don't get it," Jackson cut her off. "It wasn't a mountain lion."

Allison's voice cracked.

"Then who was it?! And what does it want?! What is happening?!"

She turned back to Scott—who wasn't even reacting, lost in his own panic.

"Scott!" she shouted.

He didn't move.

"SCOTT!"

He jerked upright, startled, eyes wide.

"I-I don't know…" he stammered. "I just know that if we try to leave—he'll kill us."

"Us?" Lydia echoed shakily. "You mean… all of us?"

"Who?!" Allison demanded. "Who is this?!"

No one answered.

Stiles' mouth opened, then closed.

Erica looked at Scott like she already knew the disaster he was about to unleash.

Asher winced, sensing the train wreck incoming.

Scott swallowed hard.

"It's Derek," he said. "Derek Hale."

Asher quietly nodded his head in approvation. Not bad, Scott... I thought you were gonna spill everything out for a moment...

Jackson blinked. "What? He killed the janitor?"

"Are you sure?" Allison asked quietly.

"Yes," Scott said, forcing the lie. "I saw him."

"But the mountain lion—" Lydia began.

"No," Scott cut her off. "Derek killed all of them."

"All of them?" Allison repeated, voice trembling.

"Yes… starting with his sister."

Allison covered her mouth. Lydia's eyes filled with terror.

Jackson just muttered something like "Oh, fuck," but the tension in his jaw said he wasn't as calm as he wanted to look.

"And if we try to escape," Scott said. "he will kill us too."

"Call the police," Jackson said immediately, pointing at Stiles.

"No," Stiles replied.

"What do you mean no?" Jackson demanded.

"It means no. Wanna hear it in Spanish? No."

"Derek already killed three people!" Stiles snapped. "We don't know what weapons he has!"

Stiles didn't dare admit the truth — that he just didn't want his dad anywhere near the Alpha.

"Your father's the sheriff," Jackson insisted. "He has the whole department's arsenal. Call him!"

"I'll call," Lydia said, taking out her phone before Stiles could stop her.

"Hey, Lydia, maybe wait—" Stiles tried, but Asher's hand landed on his shoulder, stopping him.

Stiles swallowed hard.

Lydia dialed.

"Hi, I'm calling from Beacon Hills High," she said urgently. "We're trapped in here and—"

A voice cut her off.

"But—" Lydia tried to argue, but then—

The line went dead.

"He hung up…" she whispered.

Everyone stared.

"What? The police hung up?" Allison said incredulously.

"Yes! They said someone warned them about prank calls tonight about a break-in at the school — and that if I call again, they'll trace it and arrest me!"

Asher fell silent, thoughts racing.

The Alpha. He planned this. Every angle. He even manipulated Allison coming here. He knows she's Scott's anchor… and if he wants Scott in his pack, Allison has to die…

"Then call again!" Allison shouted.

"They don't trace phones," Stiles muttered. "They'd go to her house before coming here…"

"B-But…" Allison stammered, panic rising. "What does all this even mean?! Why would Derek want to kill us?! Why would he kill anyone?!"

Jackson, Lydia, Allison—all stared at Scott.

Even Stiles and Erica looked at him.

"Why are you all looking at me?" Scott asked.

"Did Derek send Allison that message?" Lydia asked.

"N-No," Scott said. "I mean… I don't know—"

"Did he call the police?" Allison asked sharply.

"I don't know!" Scott snapped, overwhelmed. His voice cracked with frustration and panic.

Something in Allison shifted.

She took a small step back from him.

"Okay, everyone relax," Stiles said, dragging Scott aside with Erica. "Deep breaths. Calm. Let's talk."

"Blaming everything on Derek… great idea."

"I didn't know what to say," Scott groaned. "If he's dead, fine. If he's not—"

Scott exhaled shakily. "I treated Allison really badly…"

"She won't crumble," Erica said softly. "She's stronger than you think. Just breathe." Althought she said that... her hands were trembling themselves.

"Right now we need to survive," Stiles added. "Focus."

Scott nodded. "He could've killed us already… but he didn't. He wants something. He's trapping us."

"So he wants to eat us all together?" Stiles asked.

"No," Erica murmured, understanding. "According to Derek — the Alpha wants revenge."

"Revenge on who?" Stiles asked.

"On Allison's family," Scott said.

"Oh—so that explains her being here—" Stiles started, before Jackson stormed up to them.

"Okay, morons." Jackson said.

Scott, Erica, and Stiles turned.

"New plan." Jackson pointed at Stiles. "You call your father and tell him to send someone with a decent rifle. Agreed?"

Everyone waited.

Stiles hesitated.

"He's right," Scott said. "Call him. Tell him the truth if you have to."

Stiles swallowed. "I don't want to see my dad torn to pieces." He turned away.

Jackson approached. "Then give me the phone—"

Stiles elbowed him hard in the face, sending him stumbling back, blood dripping from his nose.

"Jackson!" Allison rushed to him.

Lydia froze. Erica trembled. Asher still in deep thought—

Then Erica's body jerked.

And she collapsed.

Allison screamed. "Erica?!"

"Erica! Erica!" Asher shouted instantly, snapping out of his thought and running to her. He dropped on his knees and lifted her head. "Fuck! She's having a seizure!"

Stiles scrambled beside him. Allison too.

"Shit! We need a hospital!" Asher said urgently.

"But we can't," Allison cried. "Derek is out there—there's no way out! Isn't there anything else?!"

Veins stood out on Asher's neck, rage building.

This fucking Alpha…

As if answering him, the barricaded doors shuddered violently.

It was trying to break in.

"What do we DO?!" Lydia shrieked.

"The kitchen," Asher said, rising to his feet. "You can reach the stairs from there. Scott, Stiles — carry Erica. Go."

"What? What about you?!" Allison yelled.

"Asher… you're not serious," Stiles said, horrified.

"Take care of her," Asher said, jaw clenched. "I'll buy you time."

"You're insane!" Scott said. "You'll die—"

Asher looked him dead in the eyes.

His irises weren't normal—

They burned.

Like molten flame.

"I said go."

Scott's breath hitched. Something primal inside him wouldn't let him argue.

The others felt it too.

They grabbed Erica and ran.

"DON'T DIE, ASHER!" Scott shouted over his shoulder.

The barricade exploded inward.

Metal, chairs, and glass flew everywhere as the Alpha stepped through.

Now it was just Asher—

And the monster.

Face to face.

To be continued...
