{ELSEWHERE} {6:00 PM}

"See, you don't look that bad," Ash said, staring at Eugene, who was wearing a completely white suit. His hair was done, glasses replaced with a slimmer pair, and his face went through a strict skincare routine. "No, Diddy, but you actually don't look that bad."

Ash licked his lips, sending shivers down Eugene's spine. "I'm kidding," he laughed, noting a soft smile creeping onto Eugene's expression.

KNOCK!

A knock at the door disrupted them.

"Okay, she's here," Ash said as he walked to Xavier's side near his bed, grabbing one of his school bags and a pencil, ripping out a page from the back, and writing. "Emily is easy. Just follow these steps and you'll be fine."

Ash finished, then walked to him, took the paper, and lifted it to his face.

"Confidence?" Eugene read the content, eyes nearly losing the little spark they held.

"Huh?" Ash raised a brow.

"The only reason you're saying she's easy is because you're good…"

"All you need is confidence," Ash assured, moving his hands to grab Eugene's shoulders. "Do you really think Emily would go out with someone she actually believes is ugly because I asked her to?"

A sigh escaped Eugene's lips.

"You're not ugly. You're just a little fat," Ash said bluntly. "And she knows that… Everyone does. So, have some confidence." He folded the paper he had written on, neatly placing it in the pocket of Eugene's blazer. "Like, shit man, you control bees, you are one of the coolest people in the world?"

A faint giggle escaped Eugene's lips, faint enough for Ash to notice.

"Now… get out there and say some dumb shit," Ash said, pushing Eugene toward the door. "What did I say?" he asked, watching as Eugene made his way to the exit.

"Confidence?"

"No!" Ash slapped his head. "I said the funnier you are, the cooler you become. You have to focus, man."

Eugene laughed, but before he could make his way out, before his hand could turn the door handle, he glanced back.

"Ash…" he said, his voice hesitating, "Thanks."

THUD!

Then he left, leaving behind an immortal with his retreat.

Ash shook his head, sitting on the bed in Eugene's room.

"Ash… you must be tripping," he whispered to himself, hand raised to his face. "Hope she's worth it."

{MINUTES LATER} {6:15 PM}

THUD!

"Speak of the devil himself," Eric said, surrounded by laughter as he watched Ash walk in. "I was literally telling the guys how half the girls in school refused to be my date to the dance, just from your aura alone." He shook his head, laughing with the rest of them.

Xavier was standing by the mirror, fixing his suit, while the rest had already worn theirs, filling the room with their shade of pure white.

"Good thing you didn't ask Veronica out," Eric continued, still giggling. "She really thought you would choose her. She even got me convinced. But guess who got a call early this evening asking for a 'can you go with me since I wanna make Ash jealous'?" He then burst into laughter, causing Xavier, who was busy fixing his tie, to glance at him with a raised brow.

"And you said yes?" Xavier asked, almost laughing as Eric shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't blame her," he said, eyes turning to Ash. "I mean… look at this guy."

"Oh… pause," another lad sitting nearby distanced himself from Eric, nearly fainting from laughter.

"Who's Veronica?" Ash's voice cut through the laughter like a blade, causing most of them to stare in disbelief.

"Huh?" Eric was puzzled. "I don't know, like literally one of the most beautiful chicks in school."

"…"

"Bro!" Eric shouted, completely shocked by what he was hearing. "I literally saw you hanging your hand around her shoulders, like, yesterday!"

"Oh," Ash laughed nervously, moving to his bed. "You mean that one."

"What do you mean, 'do I mean that one'?" Eric's eyes widened as he turned to Xavier, who was giggling nearby. "How many does this guy have?"

But Xavier laughed even harder.

Ash just sat on his bed, nearly crying when he noticed the black box with a scaled ribbon atop it.

So, he turned back to the lads.

"Do any of you guys have an extra white suit?"

But they all shook their heads, instantly sealing his fate.

So he turned to the box, then opened it, only to reveal a fully black, dragon-scale-styled suit. Although it had some white-lined accents, it was completely devoid of color.

He remembered that he had specifically instructed Principal Weems to ask Grandma Frump for money, not a suit.

But knowing her, she probably did it for comedic relief.

So, Ash lifted it.

'You don't want to accept my crystal calls, but you have time to pick out a black suit.'

He nearly clicked his tongue at the thought.

Or perhaps it was the realization that the color black wasn't as bad as he thought.

No, it was just the fact that it looked good on him, much like everything else.

{MINUTES LATER} {6:39 PM}

KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Wow," Ash couldn't help but utter as Wednesday opened the door. "You look… You look amazing…"

"I haven't worn what I'm going to wear for the dance yet," Wednesday cut through his compliments, causing Ash to laugh nervously, scratching the back of his head.

"Yeah, I know," he said, handing over a bouquet of black roses. "I just said that to be funny."

"Black dahlias?"

"Yep. I overheard a teacher talking about how they're your favorite," he said as she accepted them from his hands. "So, I stole… I mean, I borrowed them from her greenhouse."

He laughed nervously, watching as she moved inside, causing him to follow and closing the door behind him.

"So… are you going to change, and we can…"

"We follow through with our agreement," Wednesday said suddenly, turning to him. "Stop hiding stuff and tell me what happened after I fainted from my vision."

Ash bit his lip, laughing nervously.

"And don't lie," she continued. "Thing already explained his side of what he saw."

Ash's eyes instinctively moved toward Hand, who was now slowly crawling backward, perhaps finally getting a glimpse of the creature he had betrayed.

A glimpse of the last descendant; the only one.
