Ye Lan used a casual excuse to brush it off.
He didn't want anyone to know about his Sharingan, nor did he want them to look at him differently. These techniques were his own, and he preferred to keep them secret. That way, he could catch opponents off guard in a fight, without them knowing his full capabilities. Even though Kakashi was his teacher, Ye Lan didn't want to reveal all his cards.
Having the Sharingan was also a sensitive matter in the world of Naruto. As far as he knew, based on the timeline...
Or rather, the only person in Konohagakure known to possess the Sharingan was Sasuke. The fact that Ye Lan now had one too was like saying Itachi hadn't just spared Sasuke, but also him. Or that he was a single entity. After all, Itachi had killed the entire Uchiha Clan, leaving only Sasuke.
Now that he had a Sharingan, there were only two possibilities. One, he was from the Uchiha Clan, which was clearly not the case. Two, he somehow obtained it from a member of the Uchiha Clan. This would give Konohagakure ample reason to punish him. He didn't want to expose himself too early and attract unnecessary trouble. It was better for everyone this way.
Kakashi, seeing that Ye Lan wasn't saying anything, didn't press the issue. He then said to Ye Lan, "Alright, since there's nothing else to do, why don't you go home? I'll let you know if I need you for anything."
Ye Lan shook his head awkwardly and replied, "Um, Kakashi-sensei, I don't have my own room yet."
"Are you going to arrange something for me?"
Kakashi looked at Ye Lan with some embarrassment and said, "Seriously, I almost forgot about this. How about this? Konohagakure has many places to accommodate outsiders. I'll arrange a dormitory for you for now, and then I'll arrange a house for you later. How does that sound? It might cost some money, just rent, that's all. What do you think?"
Ye Lan was overjoyed upon hearing this. He certainly had no objections; having a place to live was great for him. He didn't want to think about anything else.
Seeing that he had no objections, Kakashi said, "Alright, I'll take you to your room first."
Kakashi led Ye Lan westward for a while, then stopped at a place similar to a hotel, saying, "This is the place. It's somewhat like a guesthouse. Many of the ninjas inside are from other villages. And the room I've arranged for you is for Jonin only, with one room per person, and the conditions are quite good. I hope you'll be happy living there."
Ye Lan quickly waved his hands, "Teacher Kakashi, what are you saying? It's already very good of you to let me have a place to live. How could I ask about the quality of the house? As long as I have a place to stay is fine, I don't think about anything else. And thank you for doing so much for me, and for finding a house for me."
Kakashi waved his hand casually and said, "That's what I should do. After all, I'm your teacher."
