Chapter 177 - The Book

"How did your last incident go?"

Upon hearing the voice of the person who had called him, Jonathan spoke with much more confidence and asked, "Elder, haven't you gone to sleep even though it's so late?"

From the Vatican, Gabriel, who heard the apparently scolding words from his student, had already begun to smile with narrowed eyes. "After hearing your story, I will go back to sleep. I am very curious to know how you did it..."

Jonathan smiled, placed his hands behind his neck, glanced at the night outside the window of the private plane they were traveling in, and said with a relaxed smile, "Mentor, may I ask you a question before that?"

"How is the Vatican right now after learning about the dark tower?"

Gabriel's expression changed. He let out a tired sigh as soon as he thought about the situation. "Everything is a mess. Many of the high-ranking officials are being placed in confinement, and many are being removed from their respective positions."

Jonathan's expression changed from kind to one filled with seriousness, and he said, "They must consider that it is not wise to cut off the heads of those elders either. All of them have important roles that cannot be replaced in a short time, so they must keep that very much in mind."

Gabriel understood this better than Jonathan. If for some reason those who have control are removed from their work and a situation suddenly erupts that few know how to handle, not only the Vatican but the entire world will be in trouble.

"Surely it is only to make it seem like they have done something. The disasters of an organization are not always leaked…" Jonathan murmured in a reflective tone.

"As for the demons, why are they recently so desperate to open the gate of hell and connect it to the human world?" Thinking about how opening the gates is the first thing powerful demons want to do, Jonathan wanted to know if there was something more than spreading evil in the world behind those objectives.

Gabriel, being the Pope's exorcist, had much more knowledge, so he replied, "Because those demons once succeeded. At that time, the legions of the Church fought against them, and some demons who managed to escape have been hunted over time."

Jonathan remembered the demon he killed in South Korea. Rafael's family had been murdered by a demon, and now, knowing that they were demons from the ancient holy war, it made a certain sense.

"The demons in hell have legions. If they come to the world, they will be able to enjoy killing us like cockroaches. The deaths would be countless, and there may be little we can do… Imagine an army of eighty legions, which would be around more than eight hundred thousand demons, in the center of a country. Even nations would consider using nuclear weapons regardless of the damage at that moment." Gabriel removed his glasses while his hands trembled.

Jonathan sighed with a certain degree of fatigue and said, "I have faced powerful demons. I still do not know what one of those demons who fully lead hell is like incarnated, but few can face them head-on."

Gabriel knew Jonathan's achievements because, in a way, he followed his steps. But when he heard him speak in such a carefree manner, he could not help but be surprised. Only the ShadowBane had that ability; very few would come out alive trying to face a demon in hand-to-hand combat.

"I finished closing several portals that were about to open. Do you understand the gravity of that problem?" Jonathan had made his report, but if there were so many cases like these, then that meant they were not taking the necessary precautions.

"We will not be able to stop all evil by ourselves. One day the source will break…" Gabriel said, sharing a bit of his knowledge.

"We will fight, we will lose, but we are going to fight… I hope to find some way to seal all evil in word and in omission." Jonathan wanted to end this face to face, but fights certainly are never the way one wants them to be.

Silence passed for a few seconds.

"Do you really believe there is a way?"

Jonathan was puzzled by that question, so he asked, "Is there a way?"

"There is a book…"

"A book?"

"One that was found by a special forces commander many years ago. The appearance of that book changed everything we knew about the world, and there may be a way to create a barrier beforehand to stop the demons, all evil, in a world parallel to ours." Gabriel said, who had seen that black book.

"Who has that book?"

"The Vatican had it, but now, after years of finding so little within that book, it will pass into the hands of the Church of Healing."

"I want to read it…" Jonathan said, very interested.

"I think it will be in your church, that base you call a church…" After saying that, Gabriel ended the call directly.

Jonathan remained silent, thinking about that book. But now that he was on a much more comfortable flight, he decided to rest since there were still many hours of flight left.

Perhaps when they arrive he will examine it more thoroughly, but for now he will rest.
