Chapter 170 - A Lead to Follow

After finishing training at a safe house of the Order where there were other recruits who would serve under Jonathan's command, he boarded a train together with Doug to review some clues about a possible dark entity that could not be fully identified.

There was a lot to do due to the recent containment of multiple dark entities, so following protocol, the agents who had been in the field were required to receive psychological counseling. Therefore, they had to comply with the mental examination that the doctors would evaluate during the ongoing sessions.

"How are your counseling sessions going?" Jonathan asked while walking ahead.

"Everything is going well, sir. I won't have any problems," Doug replied with a serious expression as they boarded the train.

But at that moment, in the train's aisle, a nervous girl ran and crashed into Doug.

Doug was a very strong man and extremely serious about his work; there was no way he would be relaxed in public. Therefore, his body barely moved with the sudden impact. When he felt the collision, his entire body remained rigid like a tree.

After the girl hit Doug, she felt a sharp pain in her head and fell to the ground.

"Are you all right?" Doug asked in an unusual tone, clearly worried.

He stretched out a hand, wanting to help the girl up.

However, when the girl looked up, Doug was surprised upon seeing her face and slightly pulled his hand back.

The girl was wearing a mask that covered her mouth. The dark circles visible beneath her eyes were very pronounced, and he noticed that her eyes carried an expression of terror.

Doug was able to notice all of these details with a single glance and knew that something was wrong.

Upon hearing the question, the girl looked at Doug and shook her head hurriedly.

She quickly stood up and left. It seemed that she had something urgent to attend to.

Doug touched his beard, somewhat confused. Since the girl did not say anything, he treated it as a small interlude; in many cases, it made no sense to be nosy about things that ended up being absolutely nothing.

"What is this?" Doug's gaze suddenly fell on a sheet of paper on the floor.

It seemed to have fallen from the girl just moments ago.

Jonathan, who was standing next to Doug, was checking his cellphone, since his extra work as a Priest tended to involve handling many things.

After Doug picked up what the girl had dropped, he realized it was a drawing of a dark tower.

"Is everything all right?" Jonathan asked when he saw Doug's stiff movements.

"Look at this, sir. The girl from earlier left it on the floor." Doug showed a wrinkled piece of paper with a drawing of a room.

Jonathan noticed only now that the drawing was not of a tower.

He even doubted whether it was a normal tower at all. The drawing showed a door and a person drawn behind the door. The rough and clumsy strokes made the drawing feel strange.

However, despite being an apparently very poorly made drawing, it fulfilled its original purpose of expressing a feeling. The silhouette standing in the doorway was faceless; all the drawn strokes lacked details that could identify anything in particular.

"The girl left it on the floor?" Jonathan asked curiously.

"Yes. She seemed strange; her face was terrified. Also, if I'm not mistaken, she was a girl," Doug said while looking at the drawing.

Jonathan frowned upon hearing these words.

Just this simple drawing gave him a strange and uncomfortable feeling.

"Wait… a tower and a young girl?" Jonathan realized something. The girl he had encountered some time ago inside the church had dropped a drawing on the floor, and in the end, something dark turned out to be involved with that girl, but she was never found.

Then the topic of the dark tower had come up, and Jonathan connected both cases as a possible link.

According to the latest reports provided by the investigation department, the girl could not be identified. Jonathan also did not realize that it might possibly be the same girl he had encountered at the beginning, mainly because the girl's hair was also short.

"We need to find that girl quickly…" Jonathan turned around abruptly and began walking in the direction where the girl had run.

"Sir, did you discover something?" Doug asked with a terrible premonition.

"There's no time to explain it to you. We need to find her as soon as possible." Jonathan saw that the girl was nowhere to be found.

Jonathan could sense that something bad was involved, so wanting to find out what it was, he ran through the entire carriage in search of the girl who had run away.

"The girl disappeared…" Doug speculated. "She's good at hiding…"

Jonathan did not hesitate and quickly pulled out his cellphone, dialing a number. "Thomas, can you track my location?"

"Yes, sir. Give me a moment," Thomas replied from the other end of the call.

Thomas, who was at the safe house of the Association of Light, stood up from his desk and walked toward where numerous people from the logistics department were located.

"Attention! I want you to find the location of Priest Jonathan right now!"

After Thomas said that, numerous workers nodded and began tracking Jonathan's location.

"Understood!"

"We've got it!"

"Priest Jonathan, we have located your position. What are your orders?" Thomas asked, fully assuming his role as Jonathan's spokesperson.

"I want you to access the security cameras and look for a girl with short black hair. She was wearing black pants, a mask, and a blue hat," Jonathan said quickly, describing the girl's appearance.

"Understood, sir. We will inform you once we find something."

Jonathan hung up the phone while thinking carefully.

"Sir, what is the situation?" Doug asked once again, frowning.

"The girl from earlier is possibly the author of this drawing that I had investigated." Jonathan took out the drawing and analyzed it again.

"When we were at the church, I encountered a similar girl, but at that time I didn't suspect anything at first… Then the topic we talked about came up," Jonathan seemed to recall what had happened and continued, "That drawing the girl dropped had an illustration of a tower whose entrance is now being tracked on the other side of the city."

"That can't be!" Doug muttered in a low voice.

Only now did he understand the seriousness of the matter. If it were a normal girl, there would be no reason to make such a commotion. However, if Jonathan's conjectures were correct, they would have in their hands a person who could change the understanding of dark entities.

Until now, there was no way to immediately track the emergence of dark entities. But if that girl's ability had any relation to everything connected to darkness, it could be of great help, or even the key to finding and tracking enemies before they even had the chance to possess a body, incarnate, or evolve into a dangerous creature.

"Doug, you have to tell me… what was her expression like? Tell me all the details." Jonathan looked at Doug, who was still lost in thought about the situation.

"Priest Doug!" Jonathan shouted in an authoritative voice. Doug quickly snapped out of his daze. After the sudden shout, the people who had remained silent began to look at them with strange eyes. Some even turned on their cameras and began recording the scene.

"I'm sorry, sir. Everything was too sudden," Doug said, feeling annoyed at his immature behavior. It had been impossible for him to imagine such an absurd possibility and what the mysterious girl represented.

"That doesn't matter. The first thing we must do is look for the girl once the train stops. For now, you must tell me the details you remember about her. If she's the same one I remember, it would be important to take that into account." Jonathan looked at Doug and questioned him.

After trying to recall the chaotic memories in his mind, Doug shook his head. Then he spoke in a slow voice, "Her short hair covered her eyes, so I didn't pay much attention to her face. She was also wearing a mask that covered most of her face."

Jonathan glanced at Doug and nodded. So far, there was nothing that linked the girl from now to the one from before. However, if it wasn't the same one, perhaps there was a pattern that connected them in some way.

"Can't you remember anything else? Do you know if she had circles under her eyes? Anything else you might have noticed?" Jonathan continued asking. "This is very important for the investigation. We need to know her emotional state; it may have something to do with a dark entity."

Doug began to recall the previous events. After making sure, he said with a serious look, "I could tell she was terrified. I'm not completely sure, but she had very large dark circles under her eyes."

"It might be her," Jonathan thought to himself.

"We have to find that girl; she may be in trouble. As for everything else, we'll analyze it in the future at the appropriate time."

Then, after the train stopped, new people got on while others got off.

"Call the support team. Locate the train's next stop and wait at the next exit," Jonathan said as he got off the train, trying to locate the girl.

"Understood, sir." Doug contacted headquarters and began issuing continuous orders.
