Chapter 15 - It won't be that easy

Snow was falling gently over the wooded region where a distortion had been reported.

A calm landscape… at least on the surface.

Around the invisible perimeter, three squads of Virtues floated a few meters above the ground.

Their halos stabilized the energy barrier deployed around the distortion zone.

Each one beat their wings in perfectly synchronized rhythm…

And each beat produced a barely perceptible breath.

Time continued to pass quietly; they were even beginning to wonder whether an SCP would actually appear here when—

A fissure of white light opened in the frozen air, as if reality had been pierced by a nail.

The Virtues immediately adopted a defensive formation, their senses on high alert.

One of the angels stepped back.

Virtue A (telepathy):

"Careful… the signal is rising… something is crossing over…"

The snow around the distortion began to vibrate.

Then, in a muffled exhale—

…a white mass fell heavily to the ground.

A compact mound of feathers and wings.

Virtue C (telepathy):

"An anomaly… hmm. One of you notify Mister Mikhael of its appearance immediately."

Virtue F (telepathy):

"Alright, I'll go."

But the moment F attempted to create a portal, someone stopped them.

Virtue B (telepathy):

"F, wait. Stop. Do you really think this is an anomaly…?"

Virtue F (telepathy):

"What do you mean?"

Virtue B (telepathy):

"I mean—before an anomaly appears, the Foundation usually doesn't reveal its information file. Isn't that strange?"

Virtue C (telepathy):

"Even if it's not an anomaly, we must remain cautious. And let me remind you: Mister Mikhael's orders were simple. Any detected phenomenon must be reported."

Virtue B (telepathy):

"You're right. Very well."

Virtue F summoned a portal leading to the sky and stepped inside.

With F gone, the others repositioned themselves to maintain the barrier.

A minuscule sound wave — just 0.15 dB, produced by the wingbeat of a Virtue shifting position — reached the mass.

The reaction was instant.

FWWWHHMMM—

The feathered mass vibrated, as if something inside it were waking up.

Then:

EXPANSION 1: +0.45 m height

EXPANSION 1: +0.32 m width

The outer feathers rose, trembling.

Virtue B (frightened):

"What is… is it active?"

Startled, the Virtues ascended to put more distance between themselves—

and that was their mistake.

The more they flew, the more noise they made.

A series of sonic fluctuations hit the entity.

SCP-469 abruptly unfolded.

EXPANSION 2: +1.3 m height

EXPANSION 2: +1.1 m circumference

The exterior wings spread apart, revealing new layers, larger ones, more feathers.

Some bore strange inscriptions.

The Virtues did not understand why the entity was expanding.

That was why they didn't attack — they had too little information.

After observing the previous two anomalies, they had learned that SCPs had the annoying habit of contradicting the laws of nature.

Until they understood what this one could do, they would take no action.

Then, an instant later, a Foundation hologram materialized in the center of the zone.

And they saw the information file for SCP-469.

Virtue A (telepathy):

"Everyone land. Stop flying.

Make sure you do NOT end up within reach of 469's wings."

Each Virtue obeyed and touched down.

They extended the barrier, since it had originally been designed to be more effective in the air.

Virtue C felt relieved.

She blessed GOD for the luck they had—

for example: they had decided from the start to communicate only by telepathy due to the barrier. The Virtues were spaced 20 meters from each other, and each one was 120 meters from the center to maintain the energy field.

Communicating orally would have been idiotic—

they would have had to shout at the top of their lungs just to be heard.

They made the decision to suppress all sound waves within the barrier.

The Virtues placed their hands on the snowy ground.

A pale blue runic circle spread outward, creating a zone where all vibrations were canceled.

A true anti-wave.

The snow no longer crunched.

The wind disappeared inside the bubble.

Even outside sounds barely seeped through.

SCP-469 fell still again, frozen like a statue made of compressed wings, returning to its original size before the expansions.

Silence had barely returned around SCP-469, now fixed at the center of the expanded ground barrier—

When…

[GROUP CHAT — Active]

Gabriel:

"Nice to meet you! I'm Gabriel, messenger angel and CEO of the ANGEL P.O. BOX.

If you have letters or messages to send, you can count on me!"

Mikhael:

"…Sister, life is not all marketing."

Mammon:

"Oh, I see you've got a good head for profit, my dear."

Gabriel:

"Profit? Oh no, everything is done for free!"

Mammon:

drrrggggg… "WHAT. For FREE?"

Gabriel:

"Yes! I work out of passion."

Mammon has disconnected

Gabriel:

"…"

Asmode:

"I didn't know you could do that."

Charlie:

"I welcome all new members. I hope we can work well together!"

Mikhael:

"Oh my little niece, I'm delighted to meet you!"

Charlie:

"…Happy to meet you too. You're one of my father's brothers, right?"

Mikhael:

"Exactly! I wanted to meet the one who had the wonderful idea of rehabilitating sinners."

Charlie:

"Oh, really? You actually like my idea? Well, in that case—"

Lucifer:

"Ahem. Is this really the time?"

Charlie:

"You're right. We should focus on the anomaly."

Hamiel:

"From what I can see, Mikhael, your units have done well."

Mikhael:

"I'm proud of you, guys. Keep maintaining containment on 469 until the Foundation arrives.

And don't worry about F—he already relayed the message."

The Virtues lifted their heads and responded:

Virtues:

"Your praise honors us, sir."

Beelzebub:

"It's too strange. Isn't this a little too easy?"

Leviathan:

"'Easy' is an understatement. As soon as the containment broadcast goes live and the group chat forms, this SCP is already contained."

Satan:

"I'm more interested in reward distribution and what they're going to receive."

Zadkiel:

"This is still worrying, my brother. Mikhael, I advise you to go there in person with more units. We never know."

Mikhael:

"Well… fine. Just in case, you might be right.

I'll send a larger unit there."

Zadkiel:

"And you?"

Mikhael:

"…Huh?"

Zadkiel:

"And YOU won't go with them?"

Mikhael:

"Oh, no, don't worry. I'll join them later."

Zadkiel:

( ̄- ̄) "Of course. You'll arrive late even though you can literally teleport there."

Mikhael:

"What—? I swear I can join them later and still arrive on time.

You believe me, right, Gabriel?"

Gabriel:

( ・3・) "Thou shalt not lie."

Mikhael (depressed):

"Why does no one believe me… blah blah (words incomprehensible even to the chat)."

Mammon has rejoined the meeting.

Mammon:

"I RE-LISTENED.

Gabriel.

You said it's free?

FREE?!"

Gabriel:

"Yes! Free, fast, efficient angelic postal service, guaranteed corruption-free!"

Mammon screams so dramatically that even without sound, everyone can see the panic:

Mammon:

"HOW?!

HOW DO YOU MAKE A PROFIT?!"

Gabriel:

"With a smile! (^ω^)"

Mammon:

Immediate disconnection.

Sera:

"I see many of the new members aren't speaking — is that normal?"

[They have decided to mute their microphones themselves. Please respect their choice.]

Sera knew why Lilith and Abel were not speaking —

Lilith, because of Lucifer and her daughter;

Abel, because of his shyness and his father.

But for the rest of the brothers and sisters, recently added to the group, she didn't understand…

until she remembered something.

Sera:

"Lucifer, Adam descended into Hell without my authorization.

Knowing him, I'm sure he did something stupid.

I suppose you had something to do with his disappearance."

Sera immediately knew Lucifer was responsible because the method the exterminator angel described resembled forced teleportation into a pocket dimension —

and Lucifer was the only one in the Circle of Pride capable of doing that.

Lucifer:

"Well, he's here… but in bad shape."

Sera:

"Don't tell me that despite the threat of an anomaly, instead of behaving maturely and ending your fight, you two decided to continue?!"

Lucifer felt a headache forming, but he wasn't responsible —

after all, after the hologram appeared, he had tried to stop the fight.

But Adam being Adam, he had to insult him, Charlie, and Lilith,

which made Lucifer reconsider the idea of stopping the fight…

And now the result was a badly beaten Adam.

Back to the Virtues

Silence was nothing but a thin fabric stretched around SCP-469.

The anti-sound barrier, perfectly stable, prevented even the slightest vibration from disturbing the entity…

…until something appeared, suspended above the barrier.

It looked like…

a phone keyboard.

[ADDITIONAL ANOMALY DETECTED—REALITY/CONCEPT INTRUSION]

Tag: SCP-001 — S. Andrew Swann Proposal.

Virtue B (telepathy):

"So SCP-001 is… a keyboard?"

Virtue E (telepathy):

"A keyboard to write what?"

Virtue A (telepathy):

"The real question is… who is doing the writing?"

...

Then the keyboard finally began typing something.

---

**[Not with loud noise.

Not with violence.

Not like a monster.

But like… a butterfly in a cocoon,

if butterflies had 40,000 wings and a radius of 900 meters when annoyed.

The outer wings quivered.

Then separated, like petals falling from a colossal flower.

Aw! Wake up, little caterpillar!

Entire layers detached slowly.

Each one levitated, surrounded by a red-ochre halo — the signature of SCP-001.

At the center…

…something inhuman was trying to be born.

Come on, caterpillar, become a butterfly!!

A humanoid embryonic shape, made entirely of interwoven micro-feathers, appeared.

No face.

No hands.

No mouth.

Just… the idea of an angel.

Oh! Butterfly, rise! ]**

Each written sentence anchored itself into reality.

The Virtues couldn't explain it,

but these words planted an indescribable fear inside them —

a fear directed at 469,

and frankly, they were right to be afraid.

(For those who know SCP-001 — S. Andrew Swann's Proposal — you should already have an idea of what's happening next.

For the rest of you… go read it.)
