The throne room spun around me like a dream gone wrong. The torches hissed and flared, casting the brothers' shadows tall and crooked on the walls.

Riven's grip loosened only enough for me to draw in a ragged breath. His thumb stroked the hollow of my throat once, a touch that felt like a promise of bruises. His eyes burned silver, not human at all.

"You thought you were free," he said softly. "But freedom is an illusion, wife. We were always coming back for you."

Kael's laugh was low, dangerous, curling around me like smoke. He prowled closer until I could feel the heat of his body against my side. "Do you remember the last time you looked at me, little queen? You had blood on your lips. Mine." He tilted his head, gold eyes gleaming. "I want it back."
