A couple of weeks later, I was fully healed and well rested. I checked out of the hospital and went to check up on everything that was happening in the kingdom. As I made my way through the main street, everyone kept saying, "Morning to you, Ser Alex!" or giving me a respectable clap. It was like I was a hero or something… don't get me wrong, it was nice, but it got annoying quickly. The ladies were giving me extra special attention, too. Which was flattering at the thought, but I was spoken for. So, I deemed it unnecessary.
Finally, after an absurd amount of stimulation, I arrived at the keep, or the castle… if you will. I swung open the doors and walked through. It was good to be back! Everyone came up to me and shook my hand, as they thanked me for my bravery and courageous act for the kingdom. Now, this, I could get used to! It felt especially good to be acknowledged by royalty.
The king came up to me and requested a favor. Obviously, he thinks of me as his most trusted and most capable man for jobs like these. That's when you know you have come a long way. From mere kin to an unstoppable soldier, personally for the king. We were a long way from home, I thought.
"My boy, it's so good to see you alive and well! Anyways, I was wondering… now that you are back in good health, could you do something for me?"
"What is it, my lord?"
"Ride to the north and tell our most trusted allied kingdom and king, Roy Winters of Medithia… (They have an army the size of ours.) that we could really use their aid in this war of ours. Tell King Roy, his good ole friend, needs a helping hand. Would you do that, my dear boy?"
"Of course, sir! I will leave right this very instance."
"Wonderful to hear, ser Alex! Thank you!"
I bowed to him as I headed to the stables to hop on Bucky once again and ride north, through the snowy wilderness of the north. It's about a three-day ride from here to there. Here I was on another adventure for the king… he must really trust me to assign me to these missions. Or maybe he just wants me dead… one will never know…
