Chapter 20 - Chapter 19.

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of smoke, as the fire was nothing but mere embers and charred wood bits, lying in its ashes. My body felt frozen and stiff as I moved my legs. I decided to start it up again and make it bigger than ever, so I could go on a quick early morning hunt. I repeated the steps of starting the fire and lit it up once more, as it gushed into flames. I stood there for a moment warming up my shivering body again. Then grabbed my bow off my saddle and was on my way to get some game.

I walked around a bit, away from camp, and quieted my mind, listening to the detailed sound of nature. I opened my eyes and ears wide, as my vision became like that of a hunter, and my ears were focused on every little sound… from the cracking of twigs, the crunching of leaves, the humming of birds, every little sound I heard. I kept my eyes open for prints in the snow, or for broken twigs, looking like an animal had stepped on them. Little details like that on the game trail go a long way in finding something to hunt.

As I was quietly moving through the forest, I saw rabbit prints… they looked fresh. So, I followed them for a few minutes. There he was… a white rabbit, hopping around. I quietly pulled out an arrow, put it between the string of my bow, relaxed my arm, and pulled it back steadily, and let go.

 BAM!!

I hit it in its ribcage, piercing the side of its heart. I walked over to it and paid my respects to the beautiful animal and thanked the Gods for this meal, as I picked it up and made my way back to camp.

The fire was still burning, thankfully, so I skinned the rabbit and ate its heart and brains for some extra protein. Shortly thereafter, I cooked the meat over the fire. It tasted pretty good… a bit gamey, but better than nothing.

Finally, my belly was full, and I was warm, so it was time to head off to Medithia, once again. So, I kicked out my fire and hopped back on Bucky to get back on the road again.
