Witt knew that in this world, professions related to magic relied on accumulating knowledge and constant practice. Early on, his experience and knowledge from his past life allowed him to learn quickly. However, after reaching intermediate magic, it was all about rules-based knowledge he had never encountered before, and his progress became very slow. Therefore, Witt wanted to go to the Citadel to study and find more ways to understand this world that once had magic.
He also continued to look for books from the world of the Elder Scrolls within the magic consciousness group, hoping to find one about the Dragon Roar.
The Red Keep's library was also a good place. It held a large collection of books previously owned by the Targaryen family. Tywin had his men ransack the castle for gold and silver items, showing no interest in the books. Only a few books with gold, silver, and gemstone embellishments had their covers torn off. There should be books about dragons in here, but the library was too large, with too many miscellaneous books, making it difficult to find what he needed.
Witt also went to the Alchemists' Guild to see the pyromancers and their Wildfire. The pyromancers claimed it was created using magic. He carefully examined a jar of it, but detected no magical fluctuations. Smelling the scent, observing the color, and using alchemy to investigate, he determined the Wildfire was refined from petroleum, somewhere between gasoline and diesel, with many impurities, which gave it a green color.
Witt and Renly were not qualified to attend the next few privy councils, but they did attend a court session in the hall as representatives of the Baratheon family.
Before, the entire King's Landing and Red Keep had been plundered by Tywin. Dragonstone had not yet been taken, so the armies were ordered to return to their respective regions. The meritorious individuals would be rewarded and participate in a tournament during Robert's wedding.
At the meeting, Robert first rewarded the various heroes of the war. As those who had performed meritorious service in the war knelt on one knee in the middle of the hall to receive their rewards, they also formally swore allegiance to the new King of the Seven Kingdoms.
The four most rewarded were: Tywin Lannister, who was made Warden of the West; his old friend, Ned Stark, who was made Warden of the North; the Warden of the East went to his foster father, Jon Arryn; and Mace Tyrell was made Warden of the South.
There were many other rewards for those who had distinguished themselves, and everyone was happy. It was a rare opportunity to be rewarded for service to the king in the last few hundred years.
Next, the members of the new Small Council were announced.
Previously, Robert's foster father, Jon Arryn, had been acting as Hand of the King, and he was now formally appointed to the position.
The former Master of Coin, Colton Chested, was killed by the Mad King for dissuading him from burning the city, and there was no suitable replacement at present.
There was also no suitable candidate for Master of Laws.
Grand Maester Pycelle, who had also been instrumental in opening the gates of King's Landing, was not bestowed with any rewards, as he was a Maester sent by the Citadel to assist King's Landing and was not involved in the war. He would continue to serve as Grand Maester.
Varys, who had served the Mad King, would continue to serve as Master of Whisperers because he had provided Robert with a great deal of information.
Then Stannis was granted the title of Lord of Dragonstone and appointed as Master of Ships. Renly was given the ancestral lands of Stormlands and made Lord of Storm's End. Stannis was furious.
Witt continued reading in the castle and found a book about the Valyrian Language, he was very surprised when he opened it.
In the Game of Thrones TV series, the common language of Westeros was English. The Valyrian Language of the eastern continent was incomprehensible. However, after transmigrating, Witt couldn't understand the common language of Westeros, and he had to learn it from scratch. But the Valyrian Language of the eastern continent was English. Then, what was High Valyrian?
He suddenly thought of the few dragon words he absorbed after absorbing the dragon soul. Common Valyrian was English. Could High Valyrian be the Dragon Language?
He found Maester Pycelle, who was also in the library, and asked him:
"There are still quite a few people on the eastern continent who speak Valyrian (English), but High Valyrian has been lost. Only a few items with inscriptions remain, but no one can recognize them. This language is considered lost."
Were the two worlds truly merged so closely? Or were there other unknown secrets?
Witt found other books on Common Valyrian, and with his level of English, he could still understand them. Indeed, it was English, but with some vocabulary unique to this world.
At the very least, he now had another foreign language he could use in the East Continent.
Afterward, during Robert's wedding and the jousting tournament, Witt spent his time sorting through his thoughts on the Valyrian Language, barely speaking at all.
He only paid attention to a few people at the wedding: Tywin was starting to lose his hair and was wearing a flashy gold-threaded cloak, constantly showing off the Lannisters' wealth. Jaime was very handsome, and Cersei was indeed very beautiful, or rather, alluring, the kind that instantly aroused desire. But thinking about their future affair made his teeth ache.
Tyrion was standing behind the table, talking to Jaime; Witt could only see the top of his head. He also saw The Mountain, who was not yet twenty, and was exceptionally tall, but certainly didn't have giant blood. Jorah Mormont of the North was still the proud lord of Bear Island. He also saw the kind-faced, Bolton, and Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight, with his fingers wrapped in bandages.
That night, Robert lost his temper, saying that Cersei had sold the vacant positions of the five Kingsguard. He only cheered up after Stannis mentioned how much money the jousting tournament had made.
Robert also announced new family appointments at the wedding, including changes to the personnel under his command.
His eldest brother, Robert, was King of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, directly governing the Crownlands. Because of the marriage alliance with the Lannisters, he had also privately reached some agreements, and the family crest was changed to half a crowned stag and half a lion.
His second brother, Stannis, was previously made Duke of Dragonstone and was in charge of the navy, commanding the island territories of Dragonstone, Crackclaw Point, and the island of Tides. His family crest was changed to a red flaming heart on a golden background, with a crowned stag inside.
The third of the twin brothers, Renly, originally the third in line for succession, became the head of House Baratheon: the Duke of Storm's End, inheriting the rule of the Stormlands, with his territories remaining unchanged. His sigil remained the crowned golden stag.
The youngest of the twin brothers, Witt, was created a knight of Horn Hill in the Crownlands, with his lands temporarily managed by the royal family until he came of age. His sigil was a crowned golden stag, but with a burning flame above the stag's head.
Horn Hill was a small military fortress in the Crownlands. The previous lord had died in Robert's rebellion, and now, as a spoils of war, it was given to the younger brother by the King, without any objections from other nobles.
The four Baratheon brothers officially divided their inheritance.
Witt was to pass through Highgarden on his way to the Citadel, so he traveled south with the Tyrell family. Before leaving the Red Keep, he personally gave Robert a note filled with names, all of whom were considered unstable elements, including the names of Pycelle and Littlefinger.
He didn't write the specific reasons, because many things would only happen in the future. Whether these people lived or died was up to Robert to decide. For now, these people were still minor players, and the King could find any excuse to get rid of them.
The Tyrell family, while outwardly supporting the Targaryen royal family during the previous war, had secretly conspired with Robert. Therefore, they received a warm welcome at the wedding. Mace Tyrell was also appointed Warden of the South. Robert also promoted some members of the Tyrell family to positions within the kingdom, because the Tyrells were very wealthy. Therefore, many from the Tyrell family came to King's Landing for the royal wedding, but fewer returned. Some members of the family remained in King's Landing to take up their posts.
On the continent of Westeros, it's said that the Lannisters of the Westerlands are the wealthiest, their excrement supposedly made of gold. The Tyrells of the Reach are always second. But Witt knew the Westerlands' wealth came from gold and silver mines, and they were surely also counterfeiting coins, since the mines were nearing depletion.
The Reach, on the other hand, had a warm climate and plenty of rivers. With the current level of productivity, even the common farmers had land to grow flowers! Mines were a finite resource, while agriculture provided a sustainable economy, making the Reach's wealth actually the greatest, despite being officially second.
Duke Mace, uninterested in the minor positions, had gone home. Willas Tyrell and Garlan Tyrell, the two young children, were certainly returning. Then there was the true head of Highgarden, Olenna Redwyne. She was only 56 years old, with good legs, and she always took her two grandsons with her to stroll around the inns.
Olenna was very intelligent. Witt enjoyed talking to intelligent people, but she had a bad habit: when she was in a good mood, she was witty and humorous, but when she was in a bad mood, she would swear at people in places where she was in charge. In other places, she would restrain herself, but she could still make people speechless with her sarcasm. The nobles had given her the nickname: the Queen of Thorns. Witt didn't want to be around the old woman.
Witt had lost two front teeth and spoke with a lisp, so he usually hid in the carriage reading books, studying the Valyrian Language of this world. But sometimes, he had to face her.
