Chapter 8 - 8

'This skill will be useful in dungeons. I can take her with me to make it a lot easier' Bell stood up. 'Does it mean that the system is a common thing in this world or... That's it!!. I remembered the system showing me about Ryu joining my party, maybe that's why I can see her stats. But the main question is, can she also see it?'

He carried the bowl that he had used to wash his sister's body, changed the water and washed his body. He walked downstairs and handed twenty Hils to the attendant.

"I'm sure this will be enough for a decent meal, my sister can't see. So, will you please check on her from time to time?" Bell asked. "I'm going out for a while but I'll be back before noon"

"Okay sir, try to stay safe" The young girl replied and waved at him.

Bell nodded before walking out of the inn, it was the cheapest in town so he wasn't expecting them to have much to offer but it was a perfect place for starters like him.

The town itself wasn't that big enough though it was one of the main income for the country. The town was simple, with good-looking wooden and brick houses, the roads were made with red bricks which gave it an elegant look. Most of the townsfolk were either carpenters or blacksmiths, which makes it harder to help anyone.

He was expecting to see an elderly man struggling with some luggages then he'll be like:

"Hey elderly, can I help you with your bags?"

And the elderly man be like:

"Thanks, you're a good boy. Take a few hils for your hard work"

That's would have been great!

"You know, there are some things you should try not to say out loud?" A voice said from behind him.

Bell jumped forward and quickly turned to the person. The voice belong to a beautiful girl in a set of light female armor, she had a long green hair that was tied into a ponytail and her eyes had lighter color. She looked about two or three years older than Bell.

"Who the hell are you!?, And why were you eavesdropping on me!?"

"By the way you were announcing it, i kind of overheard the whole thing" The girl walked closer to him. "You seem to be in a bind right now, so tell me. What's wrong?, Maybe I could help you"

"Huh?"

"I don't think I've seen you before" she said while staring into his eyes. "Are you from around here?"

"I, um... I'm actually from Aria" Bell said, trying to hide his red face. "I'm actually looking for looking for a job. Since I'm new to this town, I don't really know where to go"

She paused for a while, then smiled happily and clapped her hands.

"Is that all?, You should have said so. The Dragon Knights are always looking for new members" She held his arm and pulled him along. "But first you'll have to pass the test, it will be hard but I'm sure you'll pass out with flying colors"

"Wait, that's not what I meant" Bell stopped to pulled her back which almost made him fell down but luckily, she stopped and manage to keep him on his feet.

"What's wrong?"

"I don't want to be a knight!, I just want to get a manual job to make some money before leaving town, like you know, delivering items or even helping people to carry their loads"

"Hmm" she thought for a while before smiling again. "Then let's get to the outpost, I'm sure we can get you something to do"

"Thank you" Bell sighed and and quietly followed her.

"Do you want to know what the Dragon Knights does for the country?"

"No"

"Good, I love how curious you are and I'm sure after my explanation, you'll hurry to the capital to sign up"

'But I said no'

"First of all this country, Hilda, is divided into fifty states and ruled by the great king. Of course there are dukes who are assigned with a state each but the king oversees everything. The are many people tasks with protecting the country, like knights and adventurers, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...."

She kept on going and going till Bell almost fell asleep, he stopped listening to what she was saying. But the part he was able to understand was:

The knights are divided into two parts, the holy knights and the royal knights. The royal knights are further divided into two division, that is the dragon knights and the regular knights. The regular knights stays at the palace and protect the royal family while the dragon knights fights in the frontline during wars or monsters infestation. The regular knights are still referred to as the royal knights.

The holy knights are much smaller in number but are trained to scout dungeons and slay higher level monsters.

---

The dragon knights output looked better in the inside than the outside, according to the knight lady, it was better to not attract any attention to themselves.

"My name is Daria by the way"

"Huh?" Bell turned to the knight lady.

"Don't you know is rude to not ask for a lady's name when she approaches you, especially if she's trying to help you!"

"Oh, sorry I forgot about that" Bell apologized as they walked to the receptionist counter. "So, what's your name?"

"I just told you, don't you remember?"

"You did?" Bell asked, but after he saw the angry expression on her face, he decided to play along. "Right, right. It was Dia, right?"

"Daria!"

"Sure"

"Anyways" She calmed herself down and collected a slip from the receptionist who barely paid attention to them and handed it to him. "This town is also called the town of iron because it's the main source of the country's mineral resources and with the ongoing war, more resources are needed for the creation of weapons. I want you to join the local miners to mine some resources, it's not much but this is the only job you can get here"

"So, what is the slip for?"

"I want you to sign here, here and here" Daria said, pointing to three blank spaces on the paper. "By signing it, you've agree that anything that happens to you in the mines is entirely your fault"

"What!?, Why would you say something like that?" Bell kept the slip on the counter.

"They have been sightings of monsters in the town and few people have also went missing m, some of them were found dead, while the rest has not been found" Daria said with a sad expression on her face. "The town folks believe that the monsters are coming from the abyss which is directly under the mine"

"If they are monsters down there why are you still sending people down there?, Shouldn't the holy knights do something about it?*

"The knights that have been sent down there never came back"

"Then why the hell would you think I'm going down there if there's a chance that I'm going to die?!"

"Since the war started, demand for resources have doubled. To tackle it, we started going deeper into the mines for resources" Daria explained. "Besides, you don't need to worry about that. We knights are going to do our best to keep you safe, each knights are assigned to protect the miners. So please, help us"

"If you say so" Bell reluctantly pick up the quill and paper. He knew it was a bad idea, but he really needed the money.

[Language has been translated]

What the hell!?.

The system translated the language to english, which made him wonder if the people he've met so far are also speaking some strange language and the system was just translating it for him.

"What are you waiting for?, Don't tell me you're scared" Daria teased.

"Shut up! I'm the one sacrificing my life here" Bell quickly signed the papers. "I'm Bell by the way"

"It's like you read my mind" Daria smiled.

"Before we go, can I at least get something to eat?"
