The next day...
Missio entered HQ, the doors automatically sliding open. He looked around and saw Krishna having a chat with Henry. Suddenly, the lights flickered as he approached them. Krishna noticed him first as the lights returned to normal.
"Yo! My man, good morning." Krishna exclaimed.
"Oh, Missio? Good morning." Henry turned around.
"Henry, do you have that agent's number from yesterday?" Missio asked.
"Yeah…? You need it."
"Yes."
Henry shrugged and handed him his phone, unlocking it. Missio scrolled through his contact's until he found the agent's number. He pulled out his and copied the number onto it. He handed the phone back, calling the agent.
"Thanks…"
"No problem." Henry tucked it in. "What do need from that agent?"
Missio didn't reply, he rotated and sat down on a bench in the lobby. After a few moments, the call was picked up.
"Yes? Who is this?" The man inquired, warily.
"This is the lieutenant general of the black ops division – Missio Augustus."
"Oh! Sir. What do you need?" The agent asked, submissively.
"…In the footage, the minister was…stressed. Did he interact with anyone before that? Or was something else stressing him out?"
"Well…he did talk to the minister of internal affairs before his murder. The last person he interacted with was his own wife but…"
"But? What?" Missio urged, lazily.
"But only his secretary would know much about his affairs so, he's probably the best person to ask."
"Do you have his number?"
"Yes, let me read it to you."
Missio pulled his phone away from his ear and went to his contacts, planning to enter the secretary's number.
"**********"
After the agent spoke, he cut the call with him and dialed the secretary's number. The call went through after a few seconds. A rough voice sounded from the other side.
"Who's calling? How did you get my number?"
Missio crossed his legs and replied lazily. "Sir…this is the lieutenant general of the black ops – Missio Augustus."
A light smack came from the other side before the secretary spoke again.
"Y-Yes, sir? What do you need from me?"
"You were quite close with the minister of foreign affairs, weren't you?"
"Yes?"
"What did he talk about with the minister of internal affairs?"
"Uh, he…uh, yes! He was talking about the closing of many trade windows between Rome and Ashland after…we intentionally invaded their airspace."
"I see…was he fed up before hand or not?"
"He was…he kept getting strange letters from an unknown address. He sent a team to investigate it in secret but they didn't find anything."
Missio paused. "…What did the letters say?"
"A date. Only the date November 2nd was written on the letter – nothing else."
"I see…did they find any fingerprints or where the letter was sent from?"
"No – no, they didn't find any fingerprints. The letter was sent through an ordinary channel but they didn't find anything strange about that too…"
"I see… Send me some of those letters and…how many letters did you get?"
"Four – we got four letters across four days at exactly…4 am."
"444…?" Missio commented. "Isn't that the symbolic number of Death?"
"Yes, he thought someone would try to assassinate him so he was on edge at all times."
'…This could mean something.'
Missio's thoughts raced for the first time since his traumatization. He sighed and cut the call abruptly, tucking the phone back. He raised his hand and called out.
"Hey, Krishna! Come over here."
"Yes! Your highness! Your humble servant is here at your surface!"
Krishna rushed over, standing at attention while saluting Missio with a grin. Missio annoyed, kicked him in the balls. Krishna revolted, clutching his jewels.
"Why…?" He asked with tears in his eyes, dramatically rolling onto the floor.
Henry approached and sat down.
"So? What is it?"
Missio sighed heavily. "We'll be getting a package of letters in a week. Check them out. Also, did you interrogate the suspects?"
"Half of them." Henry replied as Krishna sat down beside Missio.
"Man, you need to sleep some more. You've got dark circles." Krishna noted, pointing under his captain's eyes.
"Shut up." Missio waved him away.
Krishna teared up again. "I just wanted to help."
Missio sulked. "If you want to help, start an investigation on the minister of internal affairs and other individuals with bad ties with the murdered minister."
"Uh, why? Is it apart of the investigation?" Krishna asked carefully.
"Yes…the internal affairs minister was the last 'important' figure that he talked to except for his wife. I think you understand the bad ties one."
"Oh…I'll get on it with Mary and Eira."
Missio nodded and stood up.
"Where are you going?" Krishna asked.
"To my office." Missio replied.
The duo stared at the lieutenant general as he entered the elevator and climbed the levels to his office. Then, they locked eyes.
"So? What are you looking at?" Krishna said with a mocking voice.
Henry shook his head. "I have to get work. Shut your mouth."
"Really? Waiting for letters is your full-time job?" Krishna joked.
"No, you imbecilic brat." Henry hissed.
"Anyways, help me out when you can."
"…Fine."
"Have a good day!" Krishna waved with a bright smile.
