"Why did they stop?" Dr. Isaacs asked in confusion, observing via satellite that the RV had come to a halt about five kilometers from the base.
They had gone through so much just to find the underground base, so why stop just at the last step?
"According to the data, there's an 83% chance it's the horde of zombies surrounding them," White Queen replied meticulously.
The Las Vegas underground base was hidden in the center of the desert. Originally, it was disguised as a modest vacation home.
Now, to defend against the relentless zombies, several layers of barbed wire had been erected around the house.
Since Dr. Isaacs would dump all failed Alice clones outside, tens of thousands of zombies now roamed the wire perimeter.
It could be said that the reason Li Qingyuan and Claire's group hadn't encountered many zombies these past few days was largely thanks to Dr. Isaacs!
"So they can't get in?" Dr. Isaacs furrowed his brow. He had spent days setting up traps and defenses along the main path, meticulous as a tower-defense gamer. And now, after completing a perfect defense, the enemy was stuck at the entrance? He couldn't help but feel teased.
"The data shows only a 7% chance they'll give up," White Queen quickly reminded him.
"I want to see what they're capable of." Dr. Isaacs, who had been holding his breath, relaxed a bit and mockingly studied the screen.
Meanwhile, atop a nearby cliff:
"It really is the Umbrella Company base! I can't believe you were right!" Jill said excitedly, looking through binoculars at the vacation home surrounded by countless zombies.
Though she completely trusted Li Qingyuan's judgment, after wandering the desert for a week straight, she was almost at her limit.
Anyone who stared at the desert nonstop for a week would crack under the strain.
"We have to find a way to get rid of those zombies. With so many, even the two of us won't be able to rush in!"
The horde around the Umbrella base was thick and unbroken, at least 300–400 meters deep, totaling over 200,000 zombies.
No matter what, unless he used all the ammo in his inventory, there was no way to plow through.
But the supplies in the boxes were meant for use inside the base. Using them to clear the outer zombies would be a waste.
"What should we do now?" Jill's confidence wavered slightly as she looked at the endless sea of zombies below.
Even a full artillery company might not wipe them out.
Charging in with a car was impossible. A few zombies could be run over, but at this scale, even tanks wouldn't help. The bodies would tangle in wheels and tracks, causing the vehicles to skid and stall within a few dozen meters.
Thinking about being surrounded by hundreds of thousands of zombies made Jill's hair stand on end.
"Remember the Claire convoy we ran into the other day? We could call them for help!" Li Qingyuan suggested.
In the movie, Carlos had driven a fuel truck into the horde and detonated explosives to clear a path.
Though borrowing someone else's method seemed a bit clumsy, it was undeniably the simplest solution.
"Claire's a good person—you can't secretly plot against her." After chatting for two nights over the radio, Jill and Claire had become close friends.
The bond between women is hard to explain.
"Don't worry, I won't harm her." Li Qingyuan patted Jill's butt lightly, annoyed that she still cared about protecting others.
"This is Dawn Squad. Claire, are you there?"
Jill rolled her eyes at him and started fiddling with the radio.
About three hours later, under Jill's guidance, several large armored trucks slowly appeared on the horizon.
"Hi, I'm Claire, Claire Redfield!" A woman wearing sunglasses, a hat, and camouflage combat gear walked over from the convoy. Beside her was a shirtless man holding a submachine gun.
Even though they had become fast friends over the radio, meeting in person in a situation like this was risky—they couldn't be sure if the other was trustworthy.
Compared to Claire's practical outfit, Jill Valentine's attire was much more revealing: a sky-blue sleeveless top and black shorts, identical to her appearance in the initial Resident Evil 2 scenario.
Of course, this outfit was not due to anyone's strange preferences—it was just her choice.
"Jill? Is that you?" Before Jill could introduce herself, the muscular man following Claire's convoy suddenly glowed red-eyed. He threw down his submachine gun and ran toward her.
He stopped halfway, however, because Li Qingyuan stood in front of Jill, blocking the man's outstretched arms.
The man behind Claire was Carlos, formerly part of Umbrella's special forces, later abandoned by the company.
He had defected and joined Alice and Jill's group, escaping Raccoon City alongside them. Over time, he and Jill became comrades-in-arms.
Though separated during the pursuit, Carlos hadn't attracted as much attention as Alice and Jill. In Umbrella's database, he was just a low-level soldier—hardly a target.
Though modest, Carlos was a skilled operative, which was why Claire had him as her personal guard.
But no amount of training could compare to the "perfect T-virus host" Alice or a half-dimension heroine like Jill. Compared to them, Carlos was merely a supporting player.
"He's an old friend—Carlos, I've told you about him!" Jill proudly said, pouting slightly.
"Carlos, this is Li Qingyuan, my boyfriend!"
"Hello!" Carlos extended a hand to shake Li Qingyuan's. Initially, he had wanted to give Jill a hug, but her boyfriend seemed to disapprove.
