Chapter 119 - The Raid

"You'll be able to move freely in at most three days!"After reapplying the medicine to Jill's hands, Li Qingyuan looked at her arms, now beginning to sprout new flesh.

Unfortunately, given the poor medical conditions here, those once flawless arms would likely be covered in ugly scars for a long time.

Jill wasn't Alice — she didn't have that miraculous self-healing ability. Recovering this quickly was already impressive, thanks to the Osborn Group's powerful hemostatic spray.

Of course, the cost was that almost all the medicine he carried had been used up. After all, a suitcase only holds so much.

"Thanks for these past few days!"Jill tried moving her arms. Though she couldn't do anything strenuous yet, simple movements were now possible.

"No problem. I've already been paid anyway," Li Qingyuan shrugged casually. He had indeed helped her a lot in the past few days — and gained quite a bit himself.

No wonder back when watching Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, people didn't understand why A Zhu and A Zi were crying and clamoring to marry Qiao Feng.

Jill Valentine's arms were badly injured. She couldn't manage even the most basic tasks on her own. No matter how embarrassed or conflicted she felt, some things still had to be done.

Even a tomboy like her would blush in such a situation, let alone someone like A Zhu or A Zi in ancient times.

"This is why, even though I know you're a good person, I just can't feel anything for you," Jill muttered, bumping Li Qingyuan lightly with her shoulder. This guy's mouth could seriously drive someone crazy.

Can't you just say something nice instead of making it awkward by being so blunt!?

"When you're fully healed, where do you plan to go?"Li Qingyuan smiled and pulled the sulking Jill into his arms.

"Where else… we'll take it one step at a time. What about you?"Jill struggled briefly, then settled comfortably into his embrace, squinting slightly.

If it had been Jill Valentine six months ago, she wouldn't have shown such a vulnerable, girlish side, not even if someone tried to force it out of her.

But after half a year of no living humans torturing her, plus the careful care from him these past few days, she finally felt a sense of dependence for the first time.

No matter how strong a woman seems, deep down they are inherently soft — a biological fact, not something human willpower can change.

"I don't have much to do right now either. Let's just wander around together for now."

This side mission was to take down the Umbrella Corporation. The most important hibernation pods were hidden underground in Raccoon City's hive.

On paper, all one needed to do was go to Raccoon City, drop explosives beneath the hive, and destroy all the hibernation pods — the task seemed almost too easy.

But in reality, running in now and dropping bombs would be entertaining for the wrong reasons.

To start with, the Umbrella Corporation in the films has branches in Washington, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Las Vegas, Siberia, and more.

Although these branch controllers are clones, they never truly believe themselves to be clones!

With the hive's dominant personality controlling them, plus the Red Queen overseeing things, these branch clones had to obey orders. But if the hive were destroyed directly, who knows what they might do without a controlling personality?

This is exactly why in the Resident Evil movies, Alice has to painstakingly destroy each branch before she can confront the main boss in the hive.

"With your skills, you could handle it solo. If you come with me, you'll just get dragged into trouble."Although she enjoyed being held, Jill thought carefully — one shouldn't be selfish.

She didn't understand why the Umbrella Corporation treated her as such a thorn in their side. Before the T-virus fully broke out, perhaps it made sense: she exposed their false facade, and Umbrella wanted her dead.

But now, with the whole world in chaos, Umbrella was still after her. It made no sense.

"No worries. I'm already involved anyway."Li Qingyuan scooped Jill up effortlessly and leapt away.

"What's happening?"Jill barely had time to speak before a wave of danger crashed down — the wall beside them exploded.

Outside, the whirring sound of helicopter blades filled the air. Several fully armed Umbrella special forces soldiers swung on ropes, charging through the gaping hole in the wall.

Holding Jill, Li Qingyuan could only turn his head and spat sharply at the gap.

The soldiers charging straight ahead sneered. They were elite Umbrella operatives, seen every storm imaginable. A spit? Pfft. Even if it were feces, they wouldn't flinch.

If they captured that woman alive, a promotion and raise would be theirs. A single spit wasn't going to stop them — let them daydream!

"Boom!"

A violent explosion erupted from the wall, obliterating the lead soldier. The following soldiers lost their grip on the ropes as the blast tore through them.

Falling nearly 200 meters, unless these soldiers were perfect human tanks, not a single corpse would survive intact.

Seeing the airborne troops wiped out instantly, the helicopter pilot pulled back, raining fire down on the building from above.

The chain gun mounted below the helicopter fired a thousand rounds per minute, tearing into the concrete walls, which offered little more resistance than glass.

Within a minute, the once-intact building looked like a hornet's nest, the facade riddled with bullet holes.

"Are they dead?" the pilot murmured.

"No!"

A missile shot out from the building's rubble, exploding mid-air.A massive fireball erupted, shaking the entire building.

The entire operation — from attack to helicopter explosion — took no more than three minutes.

"Are you okay?" Jill asked, worried.

"I'm fine. Thankfully, I reacted fast!"Li Qingyuan reassembled his expanding suitcase, checking the dense pattern of bullet marks. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.

This was by far his most dangerous mission. Without his premonition and the guaranteed quality of Stark Industries gear, he'd be nothing more than a hornet's nest now.

The helicopter's chain gun wasn't ordinary — with his physique, he could barely withstand small-caliber rounds. One hit from that chain gun would've torn a huge hole through him.
