Chapter 4 - The Detective

I traversed with the blue-haired lord of mild star- hahahahahahaha! I really can't get over that.

The crimson sky permanently etched with black clouds of ash, shined overhead and I swore I could hear screams from the distant living hills.

Caelus, on the other hand, looked like it was a normal day for him. Which it probably was.

"What direction is it in, human." He asked me his a deep scowl, trying desperately to be racist.

I lifted my cut hand and pointed towards a distant brambled nest surrounded by short crimson blades of grass.

Caelus then stopped and turned around the left side of his face slowly moving upward in disbelief, "You didn't say it was in a terror bird nest!" He nearly screamed

"What's a terror bird?" I said half-truthfully, my eyes dilating themselves to sell my act.

He immediately frowned and crossed his arms, staring me down, "You didn't notice it?" He asked unimpressed, like he somehow didn't believe me.

I measuredly put my finger to my chin, it was meant to symbolize thinking, recalling and a kind of eureka moment. Although I guess if someone else did it to me I'd say that they're feigning having a brain. Like a IQ feint. Like surprise, I was an idiot all along! Hahahaha! Got you!

"Oh, you mean that bobblehead thingy?" I asked him with feigned surprise.

His eyelids scrunched together, looking narrow at me, I realized what this look must be.

"Oh, forget it." I said while waving my left hand in the air.

He shook his head and slowly walked towards the nest.

"So, you seemed alarmed when you realized that coming here would resurface your childhood trauma of blue jays. So may I ask why we are continuing to head in said direction." I said while while touching my pointer fingers together trying to act foolish for fun.

I really need fun.

"Ahh." He sighed, loudly.

He grabbed his face with his left demonic slim hand and started to pull his skin down slightly in exasperation, "Why are you like this, always so fucking insufferable." He asked me lethargically.

"Good question. I have this quote I like, 'beloved by all, remembered by none; beloved by none, remembered by all.' It means that kindness and virtue doesn't get you a place in people's hearts, it only gives you a place on their mask. We humans don't live long my little demon friend, so to us being remembered after our death is what we yearn for, so that we can obtain some semblance of immortality. The pastors and priests will say, 'be a good saint to be remembered.' And all we humans praise those good, saintly deeds but at the end of the day, nobody really cares. Saints are objects of vanity. Gems on the crown of humanity. Remembered for your shine, forgotten for who you were. They say heroes become shining stars, what they don't tell you is that they're not talking about the sky, they're talking about that design on your pendant. But to be despised? Oh that's a different story. The Hate is never forgotten. While the names of saints and recorded in books, the names of monsters echo throughout history. That's why I'm so 'insufferable' as you put it, I will be remembered by those you meet me even in their graves and as a short-lived human, I find comfort in knowing that.

He then stared at me, his eyes drawn blank, "Um...Okay."

We moved inward towards the nest, coming off the red dirt road and onto my least favorite type of grass.

The crimson hand-cutting type.

Caw, caw, caw.

The noise was back, my hands shook.

I looked up in trepidation and horror, "Calm down." my demon echoed to mean.

He's right, calm Jeane, you are a calm Jeane. You are a Fahrenheit.

"Yes. Can I you kill it?" I ask.

"Of course I can. It's just a baby, plus if I get a human soul out of this I can kill the mother." He said with an arrogant evil smile."

So you can't kill the mother.

You know, I kind of brought you here so that you can deal with it and I can search for more clues as to why I wound up in hell. But if you can't fight the mother, we should just go back to that down. I really doubt anyone else would be alive here.

"Let's move carefully." My demon said while putting his hand out to me and getting ready to go in the crouching position.

Hey, I thought you could kill the baby! Are you afraid of alerting the mother? I understand your fear but you can't reasonably expect to find any humans that way.

I crouched down with him behind a thick wooden bramble which connected to the terror bird nest in an arc, being careful not to brush against any short crimson grass. The pain of which has not left me.

I begin to look around, think about it Jeane, if students fell in that bus where would they have ended up? The bus fell literally into the underworld, in other words, it fell from the crimson sky. Or at least slightly above the ground. The fact that the bus is standing tilted on its nose is proof that it crashed down from an upward angle. Mr. Adams was impaled from a metal rod originating from the engine compartment of the bus. This means that the force the bus experienced was enough for such a thing to happen, yet none of the students who were sitting in the seats got impaled by the metal in front of them. Why is that? Unimportant Jeane. Get back on track here. There are no bodies apart from adams in the bus, no one else died from the initial landing. They left the bus. I, myself was thrown through the glass window. From the looks of it, it was the 8th window down I was thrown from. No other window on the bus is broken enough to fit someone through. There was roughly 20 students on that bus, every single one of them escaped on foot. I had to pry open the main door the first time when I re-entered the bus, so the students didn't escape from there, they went from the back emergency exit. They would then leave the bus and immediately alert the baby. The baby then swoops down and catches some but it's improbable for it to catch all of them. Especially when they all leave at the same time and travel in different directions, moreover it doesn't need too. It seemed pretty satisfied with just Alexandra. Coming from the back the bird swoops down to the middle of the formation of humans coming out of the bus, this causes a split in the groups some humans will dart left, some will dart right, yet it is unlikely that any humans would have taken off straight from the door's position due to the shock of the attack. The shock and adrenaline would persist for a few minutes of running, where they will probably run in a completely straight line from the immediate left and right of the bus back door.

I couched-walked with Caelus to the back door of the bus barely avoiding the watchful eye of baby terror bird and the 13 brambles.

"What are you doing?" Caelus said to me with an actually interested look on his face.

"Triangulating the position of the runaway humans." I responded with a true smile on my face.

I said triangulating, but really there was no math involved, I'm not a math kind of girl. I like english better. So I was just trying to put myself in there shoes, which was quite easy since I was quite literally in their shoes a few hours ago.

I walked a direction which was most likely the optimal way for you to go if the terror baby bird landed right in front of you and you needed to go in a direction, we then quickly left the immediate area of the terror bird nest.

Walking up the crater full of small crimson grass blades we got up and continued walking that direction through the red dusty plains of hell, hoping to find something.

We kept walking and walking until we noticed a man-made sign painted in a small amount of blood on a brown-tinted rock, with an arrow pointing down.

My demon was about to open it randomly and suddenly but I had a better idea.

I quickly discussed my plan with him and he stepped back without a scratch to his pride, ensuring that he could not be seen by the humans.

I placed my cut up hand on the rock and started to push it revealing a small hole with some people I knew trapped inside.

They looked up in fear and shock of being found, I meanwhile, responded to their horror with a blissful smile.
