Chapter 36 - In the Shadows

In an abandoned building, everything is cracked and dirty, debris is scattered everywhere, and it is dark throughout. A person can be seen walking alone, lighting their way with a candle in their hand.

That boy walks alone for a long time in the darkness until he reaches an iron gate. The man turns the iron handle and opens the gate. Inside, it is even darker, and the man enters the room.

The candle lights up everything a little, and the man continues walking calmly until he reaches something. The candle shines nearby and reveals a piano. Then the man puts his hands in his pocket and takes out some photo frames.

He places the photos on top of the piano, and it is revealed that each photo shows the faces of Carlos, Kensaro, Amalia, and Wakushi.

"Carlos, Kensaro, Amalia, and Wakushi, forgive me for getting you involved in this," says the man's voice.

"I hope that with this, you will be well in the afterlife," said the man's voice as he sat down on the chair in front of the piano.

The man begins to play the piano at a slow and gentle pace with the melodies and imagines himself as if he were in a play, and as if he were the composer of the music in the theater opera.

As the man played, a skull-shaped tattoo with the number 0 could be seen on his back, while the sound of the piano could be heard at full volume, and outside there was a loud noise of people dying—they were security guards.

"Damn those guys!" said the security guard.

"Damn, where are they?" said one of the female security agents.

"AAAAh!" shouted another security agent at the top of his lungs.

Just then, someone appeared and cut off the heads of several people with a scythe. Immediately afterwards, the man who looked like Frankenstein appeared, raised all his fingers, and then opened fire. The shots hit everyone and the patrol cars.

The explosions cause a lot of fire surrounding the place, while the man inside continues to play the piano but with more intensity, putting his heart and soul into the music.

The screams from outside can be heard, and several agents are being killed. Two others appear, one descending from the sky and landing behind them with a rope with a scythe blade tied to the top. He pulls the rope, causing it to spin, and with the scythe blade, he cuts everyone in two, severing the upper and lower parts of each person's body.

A girl appears behind the other agents and pulls out a large gun with a saw blade embedded in it. The girl shoots and kills several of them. Suddenly, an agent approaches her to kill her, but the girl uses the saw blade to kill him.

Inside, the man continues to play the piano in a more professional and calm manner, as if he were sad, but then he changes to a more intense and professional style.

"I hope you're listening from up there in heaven or hell," said the man playing the piano.

Outside, things got more intense with more deaths of agents. Everyone is being taken down. Then the girl with the vacuum cleaner appears and, with a blow to the head, breaks the skull of a security agent and then sucks him up with her vacuum cleaner, which swallows his body.

Then that man with the drones appears and kills more agents. He points his finger upward, and a man appears with playing cards in his hands and throws them, piercing all the agents in the chest, right in the heart. He then takes out another card and gives the remaining agents a complete spin with the card, using it as a knife.

He cuts off all their heads, sending them flying, while a girl appears elsewhere smoking a cigarette and then pulls out a straight sword. With one slash, the girl cuts through several of them at once, killing them, while inside the music intensifies.

The last agents there try to escape or call for reinforcements, but three more people appear. First, that boy appears and controls some corpses with his needles and orders them to kill their comrades, and other agents are wounded.

While the second person appears below them with a halberd and pierces them with a single thrust, the third person appears from behind in the shadows of the others, and then their nails begin to lengthen like those of a wolf.

He cuts everyone's heads into three pieces each, leaving only the last one who does not know he is going to die but will not let himself be killed and decides to commit suicide by cutting his throat with the knife he had in his hand.

"He made a good decision," they all thought at once.

Everyone put away their weapons, and the fire from before spread, but the man with the scythe swung his weapon, creating a great gust of wind that extinguished the flames. Then they took a breather and headed to a certain place.

While the man inside continues to play the piano, this time in a melancholy tone, the others outside head to a secluded place with rubble and arrive at some gravestones.

These gravestones are separate and have the names Carlos, Kensaro, Amalia, and Wakushi engraved on them. Each member leaves a bouquet of flowers as a farewell, and it is shown that each of them has a skull tattoo with a number on a different part of their body.

They all leave, heading for the abandoned building, jumping over some obstacles and climbing up to the fourth floor, where everything is dark. The man finishes playing the piano and closes it, then takes the photos and sets them on fire, making a bonfire.

The man watches as the images slowly burn and turn to ash, then the others arrive and watch as the man burns the photos.

"Well, what do we do now, Chronos?" said one of the boys.

"We'll do something, Lucien," said Chronos.

"Speaking of which, I think the others are here," said the girl with the shotgun.

"I see you found me even though I didn't make a sound, Selina," said a mysterious voice behind the girl.

"You better move away before I blow your brains out, Mishiro," said Selina.

"Don't be like that, we're partners, Selina," said Mishiro.

"It's good that you're here, Mishiro. Where are Gaku and the others?" said Chronos.

"Safario took them to Lubao. He sent them to Kyoto while he and Gaku went to Nerita on business," said Mishiro.

"That means it looks like we'll be taking care of the mess they left behind, right?" said the boy with the scythe.

Narrator—"Each of these people has a number and is a member of the Shadow Brigade. The boy with the scythe is number four, and his name is Takeru Kobishi. The one with the rope and blade is the tenth member, and his name is Gorosu Sashien," said the narrator.

"The one with the shotgun and the inserted knife is the eighth member. Her name is Selene Subamet. The other one with the straight sword is Arene Terestu. The other one who cut off the heads is the sixth member. His name is Lucien Tekishi," said the narrator.

"The one who looks like Frankenstein is the third member, and his name is Rainon Meretsu. The other girl with the vacuum cleaner who was in the Levitstar incident, the one who was with Carlos before and then with that man with the drones, is the ninth member, and her name is Elena Jojiko. You've heard her name before," said the narrator.

"The one with the drones is the eleventh, and his name is Nayato Koyimira. You've probably heard of him. The other one with the nails is the first member, and his name is Seikeki Tobishy," said the narrator.

"The halberd one is number 12 among the members. His name is Tobimune Yoborishi. The others are Sharnak and others already known," said the narrator, finishing his explanation.

"Well, it seems that everyone is gathered now. I would be correct," said Takeru.

"Yes, exactly, but what if he's plotting something instead?" said Mishiro.

"If we're talking about someone who plots things, you're the first one who would do something," said Selina.

"Wow, you flatter me with such terrible accusations," said Mishiro with a miserable look on his face.

"Stop looking at me like that, you damn bastard," said Selina angrily.

"Come on, please, are you afraid or disgusted? If you feel like throwing up, why don't you do it here and now," said Mishiro, sticking out his tongue.

Selina spits at Mishiro, and the saliva gets into Mishiro's mouth, which he accidentally swallows. Then he starts to feel really disgusted and tries to throw up.

"Shit! I told you to vomit, but not on me, and don't spit on me too," said Mishiro, disgusted, as he coughed.

"Ha... no, how scared are you, Mr. Sewn-up Mannequin," said Selina.

"Huff... well, I'm not going to rub it in, it was a good strategy in the end," said Mishiro, smiling like a madman.

"Come on, you two, we have enough problems already," said Takeru.

"By the way, what happened to Taujima? I don't see him around here," said Lucien.

"Well, Taujima went to do something first. He went to the graves to leave flowers and then he went to Nerima," said Mishiro.

"But you said only Safario and Gaku went to Nerima," said Takeru.

"They don't know. I tried to stop him, although saying 'tried' is obviously not my style. Obviously, I let him go so he could do whatever he wanted," said Mishiro.

"Okay, we get it, but seriously, this situation is really shitty," said Lucien.

"The damn government keeps sending agents here just because they suspect there are criminals hiding in this place," said Lucien.

"I know, and there aren't any fucking criminals here. We're all hiding, and we're not even fugitives. They don't even know us," said Lucien.

"Well, there's nothing else you can do right now," said a voice.

"At least not until they come straight for them. Let's just use some contacts and see how we can solve this," said the voice.

"So you were always here, Whammy, right?" said Takeru.

"I was always here, but I thought you would call me by the name of my ability," said Whammy.

"Saying Beyond Birthday is very complicated, you know," said Takeru.

"I see. Then just call me Beyond. I don't like being called Whammy," said Beyond.

When everyone was looking at where Beyond was sitting, two agents who had been hiding appeared, a man and a woman, pointing loaded guns at the others.

Everyone stared at them, then sighed and raised their hands, but not in mockery, while Beyond just watched those people and then stepped out of the shadows.

"Those two aren't agents, they're mercenaries. I can tell because they're aiming to kill instead of neutralize," said Beyond, touching his hands restlessly every now and then afterwards.
