They clearly didn't understand what I had just said.
Silence stretched between us like a taut wire ready to snap. My mother broke it first, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
"You're making a joke, aren't you, Logan?" Her fingers twisted together in anxious knots.
That single question cracked the tension wide open. Elder Maverick let out a low chuckle, and the sound spread like poison through the group. Rock grinned like the idiot he'd always been, while Niall snorted as if relieved the uncomfortable moment had passed. They all assumed I was playing some twisted game with them.
I kept my expression stone cold. Their laughter died when I didn't crack even the smallest smile.
Aliya stepped forward, clearing her throat with practiced elegance. "We can make the wedding happen," she said, her voice carrying that familiar mix of politeness and steel. "I understand you're still processing everything about Audrey, but—"
