Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: Mega Tyranitar

Evolution?

Tyranitar?

Silas's words left everyone in the arena stunned. After all, Tyranitar was supposed to be its final evolution—a dead end. Not just for Tyranitar—every Pokémon known in Kanto capped out at two evolutionary stages. A third stage? Impossible!

But if that's the case, how could Tyranitar evolve? And into what?

The answer was revealed the moment the smoke began to clear. A strange and unfamiliar Pokémon appeared before everyone's eyes.

This Pokémon was green all over, identical in shape to Tyranitar, except for a few major differences: the crystalline spikes on its head stretched even longer, and the jagged spikes on its back had spread wide, forming three brilliant, shimmering pairs of wing-like blades. Its tail had grown thicker and mightier than before.

The sudden appearance of this new Pokémon left every spectator in the stands—and those watching at home—absolutely dumbfounded.

In the stands—

Gary, Ash, Suzie, and Professor Oak were all present.

"Grandpa," Gary hissed, eyes locked on the newly emerged Pokémon, turning in shock to Professor Oak. "What Pokémon is that? I thought Tyranitar was its last evolution!"

"No clue." Professor Oak slowly shook his head, eyes fixed on the newcomer, thinking aloud, "I heard they discovered a new kind of Evolution Stone in the Kalos Region—supposedly lets Pokémon evolve even further. Maybe something similar happened to Tyranitar here. But as far as I know, Silas has never even been to Kalos. So…could we have some new kind of Evolution Stone right here in Kanto?"

Professor Oak's guess was actually getting close to the truth!

It's true: a regular Tyranitar can use a Mega Evolution Stone to Mega Evolve into Mega Tyranitar. But Silas's Tyranitar? He didn't need one!

Ever since catching Mewtwo, Silas sent his Pokémon to train in the mountains. Tyranitar picked up this move up there. At first, it made Silas suspicious, but after Tyranitar explained, he was at ease.

This so-called "Mega Evolution" was what Tyranitar called: the Evolution of the Gods.

This Evolution was a whole different ball game from the regular kind. Normally, a Pokémon evolves when their abilities break through the limit, triggering an expansion and enhancement of their DNA, leading to transformation. But Mega Evolution doesn't just boost DNA—it totally rewrites it. The change is so fundamental, the Pokémon's entire nature morphs to resemble something akin to a Legendary Pokémon—a whole new realm!

This transformation didn't just amplify signature moves—even the body itself surged in raw power, and control of elemental forces became effortless. That's part of why Legendary Pokémon are so far above the norm!

Of course, the universe always demands balance.

If you get something, you gotta give something up.

Mega Evolution Stones possess a special power that forcibly rewrites Pokémon DNA—so the cost gets absorbed by the power within the Stone. In Tyranitar's case, he did it all on his own, by sheer will. Every time he goes Mega, he has to recover for a whole week—unable to battle at all during that time!

Naturally, as Tyranitar grows stronger, the cost shrinks. If one day Tyranitar manages to attain godhood—truly becoming a Legendary—he could switch forms at will, no penalty required!

While the crowd racked their brains over what this Pokémon could be, Silas launched his attack: "Mega Tyranitar! Use Mega Punch!"

'Tyranitar!'

Mega Tyranitar let out a roar, louder, prouder, and wilder than usual!

With impossible speed for such a giant, he lunged at Slaking—almost in a blink, he was right on top of him. At some point, his right fist had lit up with a silver-white radiance, that light brimming with such wild destructive force, it looked like it could annihilate anything in its path!

"Slaking!" Mega Tyranitar was quick, but Teppei reacted fast, barking, "Dodge it, now!"

'Slaking!'

Slaking immediately rolled to the ground, barely dodging out of the way—but, to the utter shock of both him and Teppei, Mega Tyranitar moved like he'd predicted it, twisting and slamming his fist right into the arena!

BOOM!

That punch rocked the whole world, splitting the ground open with a massive fissure, the crack racing right toward Slaking as if to swallow him whole!

"God… God almighty!" The stadium shook so violently that the crowds were tossed about in terror, while even the commentator was knocked flat, mumbling, "This… This is insane! One single punch and it's a full-on earthquake, splitting the field wide open! Is this Pokémon already on par with a Legendary?!"

Under normal circumstances, a commentary like that would pump the audience up even more—but not today.

"Legendary or whatever, I don't care, but aren't these stadiums supposed to withstand a Category 10 quake? Did the League cut corners on construction or what? I love Pokémon battles, but I don't have a death wish!"

"Seriously! What's with this arena? Every time a Pokémon uses a big move this thing nearly falls apart! Where's all that Kanto tax money even go?"

"Can we get our money back? I'm outta here—sticking around is gonna get us killed!"

The complaints echoed throughout Stadium One, leaving Shingen Oak and the Elite Four—hidden in their VIP box—exchanging awkward, bitter smiles.

They knew perfectly well the arena wasn't some cheap disaster. They'd stress tested it with Champions themselves. This stadium was meant to handle Champion-tier combat with ease. The real problem was Silas's so-called Mega Tyranitar—he was just too freaking strong.

Because… Mega Tyranitar's power was straight-up terrifying!!!

Indigo Plateau.

All eight stadiums were roaring with excitement; the cheers could have reached the sky!

But Stadium One was different. It was loud, but way louder than the others—not with cheers, but panic and swearing!

Mega Tyranitar's power was just that overwhelming—one punch had sent cracks almost into the seating sections. The faint-hearted were already gone, and even the brave were inching toward the exits, ready to bolt in case the deathtrap collapsed at any moment.

On the field.

Teppei and Slaking stared at the crevice left behind in barely disguised horror.

They couldn't even imagine what would happen if a punch like that connected directly with Slaking.

Mega Tyranitar stood alone in the center of the field, calmly watching Slaking, awaiting Silas's order—ready to unleash another thunderclap of a blow. But Silas didn't give the order right away; instead, he asked Teppei, "Senior Teppei, you've seen what Mega Tyranitar's capable of. Wanna call it here?"

Surrender?

Normally, Teppei would have scoffed.

His Slaking was one in a million—no Truant, not exactly Pure Power either, but without Truant, he was a beast among Champions, strong enough to battle well above his league. He'd never even think about giving up. But Mega Tyranitar… was just absurdly strong. Strong enough to crush hope itself.

Against something like Mega Tyranitar, Teppei was silent.

Silas didn't rush him, just waited.

He brought up surrender because Mega Tyranitar really couldn't control his own strength—if he kept going, one wild punch could literally kill Slaking, and that would be a disaster. Silas didn't fear Teppei, but Bruno—Teppei's junior—had always had his back; there was no way Silas would betray that trust.

While Teppei thought, and Silas waited, Slaking moved!

He couldn't talk, but his actions made the meaning crystal clear: right in front of Teppei, Slaking beat his chest, pounded his fists together, then pointed at himself, then at Mega Tyranitar, as if to say, "Let me fight!"

"Slaking…" Watching how fired-up Slaking was, Teppei gave a sour smile, "You really wanna go?"

'Slaking!'

Bang! Bang!

Slaking nodded, smashing his chest twice with his fists!

"Alright!" Slaking's attitude made up Teppei's mind. If he backed down now, he'd betray Slaking's trust and leave a scar on his heart forever. Raising his voice, he called to Silas, "Let's battle! No matter what happens, I won't blame you!"

"Mega Tyranitar!" Getting his answer, Silas gave the signal: "Show them what a Desert Tyrant can do—Giga Impact!"

'Tyranitar!!!'

Mega Tyranitar sprung into action. Sand and rocks all around seemed to leap toward him, like iron filings to a magnet—like a nerd rushing to a goddess. In mere moments, they formed two howling desert tornadoes, swirling and spinning around Mega Tyranitar, who stood at the very center, as the cyclones finally merged and enveloped him!

Mega Tyranitar's body flickered—the six wing-like spikes on his back blazing with silver-white light, transforming the sand twister into something even bigger and meaner. The ground beneath him and around him sank, caving in under the awesome power!

Seeing Mega Tyranitar prepping such a monstrous attack, Slaking didn't even wait for Teppei's orders—he powered up on his own. Tiny purple sparks shimmered from the air around him, enveloping him like a guardian shield!

"Go, Mega Tyranitar! / Go, Slaking!" *2

Once both Pokémon were ready, Silas and Teppei bellowed their commands in perfect sync!

'Tyranitar!'

'Slaking!'

Mega Tyranitar and Slaking let out ferocious roars and charged right at each other!

Slaking turned into a purple streak as he barreled headlong at Tyranitar. Tyranitar surged forward, shrouded in a sandstorm and white light, about to bulldoze Slaking right off the map!

Giga Impact versus Giga Impact!

If this were just regular Tyranitar, it'd be anybody's guess who'd win!

But now with Mega Tyranitar on the field, unless you were a Legendary Pokémon—especially one that had gone through Mega Evolution—or one of Silas's mysterious Dragonites, nothing else stood a chance!

At the moment of collision, victory was decided in an instant!

The Giga Impact brought forth by Mega Tyranitar was overwhelming. In that single instant, Slaking was body-checked and sent flying!

WHOOSH—

CRASH!

A deafening sound split the air, immediately followed by the impact as Slaking was launched straight into the stadium wall, smashing through and punching a massive hole in the spectator barricade; the cracks splintered outward, racing toward the audience seats!

It all happened way too fast for anyone to react. By the time the crowd realized what was happening, a latticework of cracks was already running out beneath their feet—shrill screams erupted as the panicking spectators stampeded for the exits!

"To hell with this! I'm not sticking around to get killed!"

"Yeah, we have our winner! That freaky Pokémon is just way too damn OP!"

"Run for it! This dump's about to fall apart!"
