Asher's POV
The silver arrow missed my head by inches, thudding into the tree behind me. I ducked and rolled, pulling Maya down with me as more arrows rained from the darkness.
"Get down!" I yelled to the others.
All around us, wolves dropped to the ground or took cover behind trees. We'd been setting up camp at the edge of Silvercrest territory when the attack came without notice. Silver-tipped guns meant only one thing: the Council knew we were coming.
"Stay with Luna," I told Maya, squeezing her hand before letting go. "I need to find out who's shooting."
Maya's eyes flashed with worry, but she nodded, pulling our baby closer to her chest. After what Luna had revealed yesterday about the sacrifice needed for the rite, Maya had barely let our daughter out of her sight.
