Maya's POV
I pulled at the silver chains that were around my arms, even though they hurt so much. Through the barred window of our prison transport, I watched the woods of Shadow Creek disappear behind us.
"Save your strength," Asher whispered from beside me. "We'll need it when we reach Silvercrest."
The human guards kept a close eye on us with their silver guns drawn. We had been on the road for hours since Luna was left behind when the temple fell. It hurt my heart to worry. My little girl, all by herself in that mess. The First Wolf told us through our pack bond that she would be okay before we were drugged and taken prisoner. But was she really safe?
The truck abruptly halted, causing us to lurch forward against our seatbelts. Shouts and shooting erupted outside.
"What's happening?" I asked, trying to see through the small window.
One of the guards pressed a radio to his ear, his face turning pale. "Ambush! All units, we have multiple hostiles surrounding the.."
