Asher's POV
Agony surged through my body as I dropped to my knees. All around, every wolf cried out in agony as Maya remained unscathed, holding Luna tightly against her chest. My bones tried to shift but couldn't. something was holding me between forms, tearing me apart from the inside.
"Make it stop!" I growled through gritted teeth. "Luna, please!"
My daughter's silver eyes watched the chaos with wonder, not fear. She looked older somehow, smarter than any baby should be.
And then, as suddenly as it started, the pain disappeared. The clearing fell silent except for the heavy breathing of tired wolves. I stumbled to my feet, reaching for Maya and Luna.
"Don't touch them," Selena warned, her voice strange and hollow. The witch's eyes still glowed white. "She's not alone in there anymore."
Luna turned her head toward Selena and smiled. As she began to speak, the voice that emerged didn't belong to her.
