Chapter 72 - chapter 73

Mia and Ryan walked to the company together. They had a lot of paperwork to go through.

Later, Mia was in her office working on her laptop when her friend Rachel called.

"Hey, pretty! How are you?" Rachel said cheerfully.

"I'm good! What's up?" Mia replied.

"I have some good news!" Rachel said.

"Oh, let me guess—Dave got a promotion?" Mia asked.

"Nope! You're really bad at guessing, so I'll just tell you—I'm pregnant!"

"Really? Congratulations, babe!" Mia said, excited.

"I found out this morning. I haven't even told Dave yet. I'll tell him tonight."

"I'm going to be an aunt!" Mia laughed.

"That's right! So… when are you going to have a baby?" Rachel teased.

"Maybe never. Ryan and I aren't planning on having kids right now, but maybe someday," Mia said.

Suddenly, Ryan walked into her office. "We're going to have a baby soon. And it's going to be a girl," he said with a smirk.

Mia looked up, shocked. She quickly ended the call with Rachel.

"How much of that did you hear?" she asked.

"So... we're not planning on having kids?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I didn't mean it like that. I just didn't know," she said, flustered.

"I want to have a baby with you—if you're ready," Ryan said, smiling.

Mia blushed deeply and ran out to the bathroom, overwhelmed.

Later that day, Mia and Ryan went to a business conference together. When they arrived, a man approached Mia.

"Hello," he said.

"Who are you?" she asked.

"Can I have a minute?" he said.

"No thanks, I'm fine," Mia replied.

Suddenly, the man grabbed her arm and dragged her outside the conference hall. She screamed and tried to pull away.

"Pretty lady, how about we make a deal?" he said as three more men appeared and surrounded her.

They started walking toward her. She tried to run, but they pinned her down. She struggled, terrified.

Then Ryan showed up out of nowhere and fought the men off, dragging them away. There were loud screams from the alley. Moments later, Ryan stepped out of the shadows, covered in blood.

Mia looked at him with pride—he had saved her again.

But Ryan looked at her with frustration. "Couldn't you tell the difference between a human and a rogue wolf?" he snapped.

She followed him to the car, still shaken. "Ryan, thank you for saving my life," she said softly.

"No need," he replied coldly. "But why did you follow those men? They were wolves, Mia. Can't you tell the difference?"

"Are you serious right now? I'm human! And they dragged me!" she said angrily.

"Still, you could've defended yourself," Ryan said.

"What's gotten into you?" Mia asked.

"Nothing. You're just too weak. You need to be stronger, Mia," he said sharply.

Mia was hurt. She thought Ryan believed in her. Now he was calling her weak?

When they got home, Mia went straight to the guest room. She changed, lay on the bed, and thought about everything he said.

Was she really weak?
