"Oh, so you finally admit it!"Lin Chen's voice was calm now, steady as a still pond.
"So what if I admit it? I want you dead!" Kane's eyes were bloodshot. He had completely lost control — this was his inverse scale, the one thing he couldn't tolerate. With a roar, he lunged forward and threw a heavy punch.
Lin Chen leaned back slightly, his leg snapping out to kick the foot of the witness stand.
Bang!
The table slammed straight into Kane's abdomen. The brute doubled over, clutching his stomach in pain and collapsing to the floor.
Lin Chen clicked his tongue. "Man, you really do have anger issues… fortunately the witness stand's sturdy enough."
The corner of the judge's mouth twitched violently. What kind of witness was this? In all his years on the bench, this was the first time he'd ever seen one so outrageous.
The jury, too, had seen Kane's unhinged outburst. After a round of discussion, they unanimously overturned the earlier testimonies. It was clear that the cement bed had been built by Kane himself — there was no way he didn't know Tina's body was hidden inside.
In the end, the jury unanimously found Kane guilty of murder.
The judge slammed down his gavel. "Kane, sentenced to life imprisonment!"
Kane, however, only smiled — that twisted grin full of madness. "I won't appeal," he said coldly. "But Lin Chen, I won't let you live in peace… and neither will your woman!"
In the auditorium, a man wearing a black skull mask silently rose from his seat. He cast Lin Chen a deep, calculating look before leaving without a word.
Lin Chen walked up to Kane, leaned in close, and whispered,"You talk about dreams… but I've already counted your fate. You won't survive tonight."
Kane sneered, "We'll see who dies first! 582 Chinatown!"
Then he was dragged away by the guards.
Dent and Rui Yang came over with smiles full of admiration.
"Mr. Lin," Dent said, "that was absolutely brilliant. Without your testimony, we could never have convicted Kane."
Rui Yang nodded. "Your efforts were the key to putting that monster away."
Harley came bouncing over, whistling playfully. "Daoist, you were amazing! The special police took away three of his lawyers, then you made Kane snap — that was the best part!"
She grinned mischievously. "Wooooo~ I'm so hyped right now! How about I play the girlfriend of that greened lawyer next time, and you—hee hee!"
Rui Yang's eyelids twitched. This woman… she's even bolder than me!
Bruce Wayne walked over and offered Lin Chen a firm handshake. "Daoist, that was a classic Jedi counterattack. You made my blood boil."
Lin Chen chuckled. "Compared to Batman, I've done too little."
Bruce's eyes lit up. "Oh? So the Daoist priest acknowledges the Dark Knight after all."
Dent crossed his arms and shook his head. "Master, I don't think Batman should be taking justice into his own hands. Gotham needs a white knight, not a vigilante."
Lin Chen smiled faintly. "White knight, black knight — whoever catches the bad guys is a good knight."
Rui Yang laughed. "When you men get together, shouldn't you be talking about women instead?"
Just then, Jill stormed in from outside the courtroom and gave Lin Chen a light punch on the arm. "Nice job!"
Lin Chen grinned. "Ha! Speak of beautiful women, and Detective Jill appears right on cue. Alright, I'll get going."
Jill rolled her eyes, then turned to the others. "See you later." She hurried after Lin Chen.
"Come on," she said breathlessly, "being a witness like that — that was insane! I've never seen such a dramatic trial!"
Harley laughed. "Sister Jill, let me tell you the details—"
The two women linked arms, chatting animatedly as they left.
Bruce watched them go and sighed. "Man… I really envy Daoist Lin."
Dent reached for Rui Yang's hand possessively. "Then you'd better work harder, Bruce."
Later, Lin Chen took the girls out to buy a McLaren supercar — one for himself, and another for them.
Jill whistled. "Luxury! This is way too extravagant."
Lin Chen smiled faintly. "I earned it with my own legal work."
Jill pouted, half-jealous. "Why didn't you take me with you to make money like that? I gave you all my sixty thousand dollars — let me invest with you next time!"
"Sixty thousand? That's it?" Lin Chen teased. "You really are a little poor. I'll take care of you."
"Hmph! Support this beauty? Dream on!" Jill glared at him playfully.
Soon after, Lin Chen let Jill and Harley drive off in the supercar for a shopping spree, while he returned to Chinatown on his motorcycle.
"Be careful," Jill called out, worry in her voice. "Kane's got a lot of men."
"Yeah," Lin Chen nodded. "I know."
He went home, closed the door, practiced a few sets of boxing forms, then sat cross-legged to meditate.
An hour later, his phone rang. Jill's urgent voice came through:"Lin! Kane's been rescued on the way to Black Gate Prison! Be careful — I'm coming to find you!"
Lin Chen glanced at the time. "Alright. You and Harley watch yourselves."
He stood, then silently leapt out the second-floor window, vanishing into the shadows.
By the time his feet touched the ground, he was already moving swiftly — heading toward a remote mountain road, the only route from Black Gate Prison to Chinatown.
That was where he would wait for Kane's convoy.
In the darkness, two Humvees came roaring up the road.
Lin Chen stood still, watching their headlights approach like two blazing eyes.
Boom!
A massive tree on the mountainside suddenly shook loose. Huge stones tumbled down, crashing onto the road and blocking it completely.
Then several thick trees toppled sideways, sealing off the path entirely.
Both Humvees slammed their brakes hard — tires screeching — and came to a halt.
Behind them, the road gave a violent crack and collapsed. They were trapped.
"Be careful! It's Poison Ivy!" Kane shouted, instantly recognizing Tina's old friend.
A figure in green leapt down from a branch, her eyes burning cold as emeralds."Kane! Tonight, you'll pay for Tina's life!"
She raised her hand.
Dozens of vines erupted from the earth, whipping toward the Humvees.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
The vines coiled around two thugs who had just gotten out, dragging them screaming into the dense forest.
"Ahhh! AHHHH—!"Their cries ended abruptly. The others froze in terror.
Kane snarled, "Out of the car! Burn her with the flamethrowers!"
He had come prepared — expecting Poison Ivy's revenge.
Four men jumped out, armed with guns and flamethrowers, setting fire to the vines and branches.
"Hahaha! Poison Ivy! Enjoy the flames!"
Poison Ivy narrowed her eyes and flicked her wrist. Clouds of spore-like dust filled the air, floating toward the men.
"Gas masks, now!" Kane barked.
But two of his men were too slow. They inhaled the spores — and their bodies began to tremble uncontrollably.
Bang! One of them suddenly turned his gun — and fired at Kane!
The bullet missed, hitting the man beside him instead.
"Bang! Bang!" Kane shot twice, killing the two poisoned subordinates instantly.
"Shoot her!" he roared.
Bullets tore through the night as his remaining men opened fire.
Poison Ivy dove behind a thick tree, the bark splintering around her. Even she hadn't expected Kane to be this well-prepared — flamethrowers, gas masks, everything.
Then a lazy voice came from the darkness.
"Four big men ganging up on a woman with guns… that's a bit much, don't you think?"
Kane spun around, face twisting. "Lin Chen?! You dare show yourself!"
Lin Chen stepped forward, shrugging lightly. "Well, here I am. What are you gonna do about it? Why run when I came all the way to see you myself?"
Kane's eyes burned with hatred for the man who had destroyed his life. "I'll kill you today!"
Lin Chen shook his head slowly. "Kane, I told you — you won't survive the night."
Kane's expression shifted. "You… foresaw this? You calculated my death?"
Lin Chen smiled faintly. "Otherwise, what kind of reward would this be?"
Poison Ivy called out, her voice cold and seductive. "Daoist, help me kill Kane, and I'll be yours from now on!"
Lin Chen smirked. "Poison Ivy, if you want to repay a kindness forcibly... then touch me."
"Hmph! You don't want me to get close? I'm not like those women you play with!" she snapped, pouting.
Lin Chen's eyes trailed over her figure — that fiery body, that pure yet deadly charm. For a moment, even the calm Daoist was tempted.
