Lin Chen looked calmly at the judge."Judge Freer, is that correct?"
The judge nodded. "Witness, yes."
Lin Chen inclined his head slightly. "Good. Then I have a few requests."
The old lawyer across from him slammed his hands on the table, sneering,"Speak! As long as it's a question, I'll allow it."
He was eager to expose Lin Chen's so-called "fortune-telling" as a scam, to win the case decisively.
Lin Chen said faintly,"First, my fee — six hundred USD per reading.Second, if I happen to reveal your private matters, you can't hold it against me."
The old lawyer snorted and tossed six hundred dollars at him."No problem. Let's see what nonsense you can pull to piss me off."
Lin Chen's tone remained calm."Maud Brown — top of his class in college. Joined an elite law firm. Over thirty years of experience, high standing in Gotham's legal circle."
Attorney Brown straightened his back proudly."Hmph, that's all public information. You could find that online. Is that the best you can do?"
Lin Chen smiled faintly."Alright then. Let's talk about something you don't know."
"Oh?" Brown sneered. "Please, I'm all ears."
"When you were in college," Lin Chen said slowly, "you put a green hat on your roommate Charlie. Every weekend, while he went home, you were secretly meeting with his first girlfriend."
The courtroom fell silent.
Brown froze. His pupils shrank.That… that was something he had never told anyone!
Lin Chen then pointed toward an elderly man sitting among the lawyers."Everyone, let me introduce you — this is the lucky fellow, Charlie."
Charlie's face turned red with fury. He slammed the table and jabbed a finger at Brown."You bastard! I knew you two had something going on! Damn it, Brother 993, you were right about him!"
He stood up, about to rush forward. A young lawyer grabbed him desperately."Charlie! Calm down! Don't act on impulse — the police are watching! That was years ago!"
Lin Chen's voice cut through coldly."Don't persuade others to be kind when you've never suffered their pain."
The young lawyer turned on him, frowning."And who are you to tell me that? This is a courtroom!"
Lin Chen looked at him and said lightly,"Your name is Richard. The green hat you're wearing is even tighter than Charlie's.Your girlfriend, Zuan Shan, has been having an affair with your mentor.While you were working overtime at the firm last night, your master and Zuan Shan were… very busy."
The young lawyer's face went blank.Last night… Brown had said he'd stay late at the firm. His girlfriend had called and asked him to cover for her.He had helped them! He even told everyone Brown fell asleep in the office!
No wonder when he got home this morning, Zuan Shan's attitude was so strange…
But he still couldn't believe it. His master was so old — could that really be true?
Lin Chen smirked."You don't believe me? Your master has a pair of metal staples in the left pocket of his pants. See if you recognize them."
Brown's face suddenly changed. He instinctively covered his left pocket.
Richard's expression twisted. "You old fraud!"He roared and leapt onto the table, punching Brown square in the face, knocking him flat on the floor. As he hit him again and again, a small black pair of women's underpants slipped from Brown's pocket.
"F*ck!"
Richard's rage exploded. His nose was practically steaming."You shameless old dog! I trusted you! And you— you actually greened me?!"
Brown's old body curled up as he wailed,"Misunderstanding! Help! Someone help!"
Lin Chen sighed softly, as if to himself."Zuan Shan did say Brown looked older… but apparently he's more energetic than Richard."
Richard's fists rained down harder.Charlie, not to be outdone, jumped in and grabbed Brown's collar, joining the brawl.For a moment, the courtroom turned into a martial arts stage.
Chaos erupted.The jury was dumbfounded.The spectators were speechless.
The bailiffs rushed in, separating the three bloodied men.
Brown wiped the blood from his mouth and shouted,"I'm going to sue you all for assault!"
Richard, panting, finally came to his senses — a hint of regret flickering in his eyes.He could've just dumped his girlfriend and walked away, but rage had gotten the better of him.
Lin Chen said lightly,"Richard, your master won't forgive you for this. But if you hand over the evidence of his judicial misconduct over the years, that'll count as merit."
Richard's eyes lit up instantly. He turned to the judge."Your Honor, I'll report him! I have plenty of evidence!"
The courtroom went silent.
Brown's face went white as chalk. He had gone from respected lawyer to laughingstock — and now likely prison-bound.He collapsed to the floor.
All three lawyers were taken out in disgrace.
The gallery burst into whispers.This witness was terrifying — in just a few minutes, he'd destroyed three lawyers!
In the corner, Bruce Wayne gave a quiet thumbs-up.This Taoist is really something else.
Judge Freer wiped the sweat from his forehead and said stiffly,"Witness, please… mind your words."
Lin Chen smiled. "Your Honor, it was Attorney Brown who requested a reading."
"Very well. Defense, continue your cross-examination."
The remaining middle-aged lawyer stood up, trembling like a leaf.
Lin Chen looked at him, half-smiling."What, you don't believe in fortune-telling?"
The lawyer waved his hands frantically."I believe! I believe!"He quickly swallowed a heart pill just in case.
He too had secrets — shameful ones. He wouldn't dare provoke Lin Chen now.
Kane frowned. Three of his top lawyers had been taken out in minutes.Now only this nervous wreck remained — this was going badly for him.
Dent and Reddy exchanged glances.The witness on this side… was terrifyingly strong.
The middle-aged lawyer finally gathered his courage."Mr. Lin, besides claiming that Mr. Kane murdered and hid the body, do you have any actual evidence?"
Lin Chen's eyes were calm."Tina has Kane's subcutaneous tissue beneath her fingernails — proof they fought.And Kane never sent her to the station that night, as he claimed.
"Instead, he spread rumors that she'd run off with another man, misleading the public.
"And the cement bed in his secret room was built by his own hands. No one else could've done it. He has no explanation for that."
The lawyer opened his mouth, but Lin Chen raised his hand to stop him."I know — you'll say someone else helped build it. Indeed, a man named Smith admitted to constructing most of it, but claimed he knew nothing of the body.
However, Smith wasn't even in Gotham at the time. He was hiding in Central America. Even Kane didn't know that. You can verify his travel records."
Kane's face turned pale. His supposed scapegoat had betrayed him without realizing it!
Dent's eyes lit up. He quickly signaled his team to check the record.
The middle-aged lawyer wiped sweat from his brow."Mr. Kane is a prominent figure — a wealthy man in Gotham. He had no reason to kill Tina.They even had a prenuptial agreement. A divorce would've cost him nothing more than a lawyer's fee!"
Lin Chen chuckled."That's a good question. The answer is simple — this man is a pervert."
The courtroom gasped.
Lin Chen continued,"When he was six, Kane's father forced him to watch his own mother jump off a rooftop. His mother was beaten and scolded for years until she couldn't take it anymore. And his father made him witness her death."
Kane's face twisted."Don't— don't say it!" he screamed.
Lin Chen ignored him."Haunted by guilt, Kane grew up warped. After marriage, he became suspicious and violent.He beat and cursed Tina constantly. When she finally filed for divorce, he snapped — revealed his true self — and killed her."
"I told you to SHUT UP!" Kane roared, veins bulging, fury distorting his face.
Lin Chen's voice rose like thunder."In truth, you're just a coward! A pathetic coward who couldn't protect his mother — and became the very monster you hated!"
"Coward!"
Something snapped inside Kane.He shot to his feet, eyes burning red."Yes! I killed her!" he screamed."Why did she want to leave me?! I just wanted her to stay with me forever — sealed in cement, where she could never run!"
