Truthfully, she couldn't find much wrong with belonging to True Karn forever. He was the first, and could well be the last, man to ever want her. He looked at her as though she were a worthy woman—worthy of his time, of his attention.

"Thank you, Alissa." He took the silver band from her and placed it on the first finger of her right hand. Then he pulled her close, his hands enfolding hers. "The ring is charmed. No one will be able to take it from you. If you should ever need me, kiss the stone."
She nodded.
He brushed his lips across her knuckles then stepped back, his cape fluttering. "Good Moon, Alissa."
