When Leah woke up the next morning, she found her husband busying around in the kitchen.
Once he was done toasting the bread, he placed it on the plate before adding a thin layer of butter. After that, he added sliced cherry tomatoes on it.
Then, he cracked the egg and let it down on the oiled frypan. Leah stood beside him and requested, "Can I get a runny egg today?"
Leo's eyes fell on his wife. "You're up early today."
Leah smiled. "I want to see you before you get to work. Thinking about how we can barely see each other, I don't feel good, Husband."
Once the egg was cooked just like how Leah wanted, he placed it on top of the toasted bread.
"You just want to know what happened with Xu Family," Leo pointed out.
Grabbing her plate of food, she stared at the man with bright, expectant eyes. "Since you're doing it for me, can I not know?"
Leo didn't dare to dive in to the extensive details. "I just had Harry Xu abducted."
Along with Leo, she moved to the dinner table. Pulling the chair back, she stared at him curiously without taking a bite of the food and waiting for him to carry on.
"In return for seven percent of shares. Miles Xu agreed to transfer the shares in your name by morning," Leo added.
Leah's eyes widened. Clear shock crossed through her face.
"Shares? Seven percent? In my family?" Leah was in disbelief.
Leo nodded before picking up his toast and taking a bite out of it.
Her eyes remained on her husband, gloominess crossing them for split of a second, before she closed her eyes to conceal her emotions.
Wearing her innocent, pure smile on her face, Leah stated, "What am I going to do with so many shares? It would've been better if they were under your name. Aren't you starting new business? It would have been helpful."
Leo raised his head to stare at his wife.
Discontentment crossed through his eyes.
"Didn't I say you shouldn't be easily giving away your trusts to others?" Leo asked. "It is only safe when it's under your control. What will you do if I abandon you with nothing?"
Leah scrunched up her nose. "You will never do that though. You are very nice to me."
He understood that his wife was hopelessly naive and kind. The only thing he could do was keep a closer eye on her in order to prevent her from getting tricked.
Once they were done with the breakfast, they heard the sound of the doorbell being rung. Leo collected the plates and asked, "Can you get the door?"
Leah nodded obediently.
After washing her hands and drying them, she rushed over to the door, unlocking it. The delivery man stood outside the door, holding her parcel.
"Ms. Leah Xu?" he read out.
"That's me," she responded before signing the paper and receiving the parcel.
After the delivery man left, she closed the door.
"Who is it?" Leo asked.
Skipping her way over to him, Leah stared at him with a pair of bright hazel eyes, hiding the parcel behind her back. After Leo was done washing the plates, he glanced at her.
Noticing the way she was looking at him, he raised one of his brows.
"I got you a gift," she sweetly said, handing the parcel to him.
Leo's eyes widened slightly in surprise before quickly wiping his hand on the kitchen towel.
Thinking about how his wife was thoughtful and nice enough to get him a gift caused his heart to almost burst in joy. He wished to hug her and shower with kisses.
But he had to hold back his intense emotions while accepting the gift from his wife.
"Thank you, Dear."
Then, he brought the gift over to the dining table, proceeding to unwrap the covering. Inside it laid a fancy box with a bow tied on top of it.
When Leo unpacked it, he was met with a black formal suit. The collar of the shirt held minimal and subtle blue embroidery in it, adding a touch of uniqueness. The cuffs of the blazer held a matching design.
A soft smile formed on Leo's face.
"It's perfect, Honey," Leo said, "never had I received a better gift than this before."
He would treasure this to the point that it would be a considered a future relic of their family.
"I am glad," Leah expressed. Her nervous self calmed down. "I thought you would be dissatisfied with my choice."
"How could that be? I like anything you give me," Leo commented, raising his hand to touch her cheeks gently. "But it should have been expensive. Do you have enough money? As your husband, I have been negligent. I should have given you husband."
Leah noticed the self-blame in his eyes and shook her head, patting her chest proudly. "It's not expensive. Don't you know I am rich now?"
Right then, the receipt fell down. Before Leah was able pick the slip up, Leo bent down and reached it out, looking at the price tag.
"Fifty thousand." Leo's heart ached. The amount must have been large to Leah. He didn't deserve this from her.
She realized how her husband's mood got upset and voiced out, "Just fifty thousand. It's not a large amount."
Leo's gloomy eyes fell on her, holding a myriad of emotions she wasn't able to understand.
"You're truly a fool," Leo stated, "it hadn't even been a month since we married, and you have been coaxed to spend fifty thousand? Are you selling your organs off to support me in less than a year if I need it?"
Leah knitted her brows and pouted. "Why are you getting mad at me? If you don't like the gift, return it to me."
Lowering his head, Leo placed a soft kiss on her forehead and said, "How can I not like it? Should I wear this to work today? Everyone will be envious of me."
°°°
Assistant Zhang opened the door for Leo, indicating for him to enter. But instead of getting in the car, Leo stood there and cleared his throat.
At that, the Assistant started to think whether or not he was missing anything. Then, he reached out for his tablet and held it forward.
"This is your schedule for today, Mr. Leo," Assistant Zhang said.
Leo furrowed his brows. Usually, this Assistant of his was perspective and didn't disappoint him.
Why was he being so clueless today?
"How is my suit today?" asked Leo.
Assistant Zhang observed his Boss for few seconds from top to bottom, wondering what the man wanted him to spot.
He then carefully said, "Your shirt— the collar is wrinkle—"
Before he could carry on further, he noticed his Boss's worsening mood and cursed inside.
He truly wasn't getting enough for it.
Assistant Zhang realized the suit was new. Most of the purchases made for Leo was done by him, and Leo wouldn't waste his time going through clothing.
Could it be that his wife brought it for him?
"Ms. Zhen truly has impeccable taste. Mr. Leo, this suits you so well as if it had been made for you. You look more charming and handsome than usual. I can easily see that Ms. Zhen loves you a lot."
Although Assistant Zhang brightly praised his Boss on the outside, he felt dead inside.
This man had only become more childish and difficult to serve after getting married.
Leo didn't feel completely satisfied with the compliments, but this is most his boring secretary could do.
Only after this did Leo enter the car and took the tablet from his Assistant's hand.
