"Where's your equipment?"
Anton glanced at Phil, ignoring the mix of swagger and arrogance radiating from him, and ordered: "Go get your gear, and the locator device. It's time to leave here!"
"Understood!"
Phil nodded and dashed into the flight base building in a flash.
A few minutes later, he returned fully equipped, wearing the modified and repainted Green Goblin suit, standing before Anton.
Seeing Phil like this, Anton couldn't help but admit:
Under the alias "Goblin," he looked more like a supervillain than a superhero.
This outfit could easily terrify children during Halloween.
Honestly, Anton had no idea what kind of taste Phil had.
He was speechless for a moment, then noticed the briefcase in Phil's hand—clearly containing the slightly damaged locator device.
"Take her with you. We'll leave now."
"Understood!"
No sooner had Phil spoken than he saw Steelbone grab Stockman and shoot into the sky, suddenly pausing midair and glancing back at the flight base.
Riding his hoverboard, with Carly suspended below, he ascended to the same height as Steelbone.
"What's wrong?"
"There's still business to finish."
Anton answered calmly: "If word of this gets out, as a journalist, you should understand better than I do the severity of the consequences."
"You… you're planning to—?"
Phil's eyes widened as he stared at the flight base.
Then he saw Steelbone raise his hand, sonic shells converging, aiming at the nearby fighter jets, armored vehicles, and most importantly, the ammo depot, triggering a massive explosion across the entire base.
BOOM! BOOM!A massive mushroom cloud shot skyward.
Fire and black smoke quickly engulfed the entire base.
The earth itself seemed to quake under the catastrophe; deep fissures opened across the ground.
As for the soldiers who had survived inside the base?
Without exception, they were obliterated by the terrifying blast—turned to bones by the shockwave and fire.
Ross and Bronski, already in dire straits, met an even grimmer fate.
Adding to that, Anton had deleted the black box inside the base.
All external traces were erased by the explosion.
After this, no one would know exactly whose attack had killed Ross and the others.
Most likely, the blame would fall on Bruce Banner.
"This—!"
Phil was dumbfounded.
He stared at Steelbone beside him, trembling, unsure who the real villain was.
This "eradicate completely" method was straight out of a villain's playbook…And why did it feel so satisfying?
Lost in thought, Phil stared at the flight base, now nearly a ruin, feeling dazed.
Soon, they followed Anton as he continued in the guise of Steelbone, leaving the tropical rainforest flight base behind.
"Phil, your name is Phil, right?"
A little later, roughly ten kilometers from the city, Steelbone stopped and turned to Phil: "You should have a way to get back to New York."
"No problem. I can contact the High Table people."
Phil nodded enthusiastically.
Thanks to some ties via the Hornet Daily, he could easily reach the High Table.
The High Table wasn't just a regional organization; it was a global "sun-never-sets empire" in the assassin world.
Getting back to New York through them was certainly no problem.
"Good."
Steelbone nodded and tossed Stockman to Phil: "Take care of these two. Fix the locator device quickly—the mind-transfer technology is critical."
"Leaving just like that?"
Phil froze, watching the man soar into the sky, vanishing like lightning.
The massive sonic boom thundered in his ears, the shockwaves from breaking the sound barrier scattering around.
Only then did he realize—the speed he had just witnessed was holding back.
Thud!Phil swallowed hard.
He really didn't understand how his boss knew Steelbone—or why he had even filmed a movie about him.
The Steelbone in the movie looked nothing like the man before him.
Yet, knowing Steelbone was on his side, he suddenly felt safe.
Logically, Steelbone had just taken out the army—originally to save him, right?
...
Ascending into the clouds, Steelbone's body became intangible, vanishing completely over Brazil.
Meanwhile, in New York—
Anton opened his eyes at home, suppressing the murderous intent in them.
"Banner…"
He thought briefly about the last fragment of the mind-transfer device, which had transported Bruce Banner somewhere unknown.
All three parts of the mind-transfer device had teleportation capability.
But crucially, using them separately was unstable.
Errors were likely.
Only when combined could they form a stable device, capable of transferring the user's thoughts to every corner of the recipient's mind—even across the universe.
This was quite a broken piece of technology.
Just like the original Steelbone, Victor Stone.
Steelbone had a Mother Box from Apokolips, granting him teleportation through Boom Tubes.
But the tech wasn't fully mastered yet, so errors were possible.
Anton, however, did not gain the Mother Box teleportation ability when he became Steelbone.
Probably a movie-related choice.
Anyway, Anton didn't recall Steelbone demonstrating teleportation in the Justice League film.
Back to the point—
If Banner were transported by the fragment, there was a very small chance of success.
Where, according to Banner's mind, would he be sent?
Only one answer.
His former love, Betty.
Of course, this Betty wasn't Anton's acquaintance Betty Brandt, but Betty Ross, General Ross's daughter.
After all, Banner was someone Ross had favored from the start.
From the story, the person Banner missed most was his muse.
Blue Man? That's later.
"Betty Ross!"
Anton paused, thinking this might be a way to track Banner.
He pulled out his phone and called Winston at the Continental Hotel.
Moments later, an email arrived.
Opening it, he found all information about Betty Ross, including her current boyfriend—a psychiatrist.
Anton clicked his tongue in exasperation.
Hulk!
For some reason, in Marvel, most superheroes either are green or end up green.
Venom, Hulk, Spider-Man… all under the "green light."
Captain America? Not sure if he counts.
Green myself? Two Captain Americas in one timeline?
Strange logic, but not impossible.
In short: to get strong, first go green.
No matter the meaning—if you're green, you're the unique one.
