Chapter 10 - Of Trust and Food

Luna watched on in amazement as the baby dragon effortlessly took down a wild boar, a creature that she would likely only run away from was near instantly killed by a creature that was almost 4 times smaller than herself and doubtlessly much much younger. She began to wonder what it was that made it so much stronger than her, was it purely because it was a dragon or was it something else? She didn't know but.. clenching her fists she was determined to find out. After all how else was she to get stronger? How else would she ever take her revenge on the orcs... She couldn't just expect this surprisingly kind dragon to look after her forever now could she?

She was snapped out of her thoughts when the dragon turned to look at her with what she could swear was a smug grin, but no surely that couldn't be the case right? Surely a baby dragon wouldn't have just fought like that just to show off... right?

Violet was in fact most definitely showing off, she almost regretted it as she had used a considerable amount of her mana during that short fight but seeing the look of amazement on the small sad one's face made it all worth it! Violet wasn't quite sure why she found such delight in that act but she didn't bother to ponder it too long. After all she was hungry and a delicious meal was laying their ripe for the taking!

[You have defeated Wild Boar lvl 7 exp rewarded]

Tch no level up either, that's disappointing. But oh well I'll just have to settle for a nice meal she supposed. And putting thought to action she proceeded to tear into the carcass and proceeded to eat her fill. Once satisfied she peered over at the small sad one and tilted her head in confusion, why was she not eating?

Getting her attention by waving her tail she gestured at the small sad one and then at the boat before taking another bite. The girl looked shocked that Violet was allowing her the honor of eating from her kill, which now that she thought about it did make sense. After all who would dare to try and steal her food!

With that realisation she bobbed in agreement and repeated her gesture without actually taking a bite this time.

Luna was quite surprised when the dragon seemed to want her to have some of the boar for herself but she was hesitant, her parents had always told her that she shouldn't eat raw meat unless absolutely necessary, especially monster meat as unless you cook it the wild mana from within could cause damage to you. Whereas after being cooked the wild mana gets refined and is able to be processed much easier.

So staring down at the dead boar she paused, unsure if she was really that desperate just yet. Getting an idea she gestured at the boar and then picked up a leg before gesturing back in the direction of the cave and mimed pulling it. After a moments pause as if working out her meaning the baby dragon bobbed in seeming agreement. 'Gah! Why does it look so adorable when it bobs like that, even when it is covered in blood like right now?'

And so the dragon hopped off the boar and grabbed one of its hind legs in its mouth whilst Luna grabbed the other and they began to haul the much larger creature, thankfully stats were great and between them they successfully pulled the boar back to the cave.

Violet was surprised at how much easier it was to drag this one back to the cave compared to her first boar kill. And before long they were back in the cave. Then the small sad one dashed back out of the cave leaving Violet quite confused, she followed after the girl curious to see what she was up to. But she was both disappointed and confused when the girl just went around picking up sticks, what could she possibly need sticks for?

Deciding to just wait and see Violet watched on as the small sad one gather a arm full of sticks and brought them back to the cave. And then watched in confusion as she arranged some of the sticks together whilst pealing the bark off a few of the dryer ones. And then continued to watch in ever growing confusion as the girl proceeded to spin? One of the sticks on top of another, she kept this up for a long time. It took so long that Violet decided to just go for a quick nap as she was getting bored watching.

When Violet woke back up the girl was still spinning her stick to Violets complete confusion. However, shortly after Violet watched in amazement as smoke started to rise from the contact point of the two sticks, the girl then placed some of the bark shavings and other dry materials around the smoking point and proceeded to blow of it. After a minute of this Violet was even more amazed when fire suddenly blossomed in the pile of dry stuff.

The girl then proceeded to nurture the fire and help it grow, soon placing it within the stick arrangement she made earlier, and before long she had a decently sized fire going. Violet was again both amazed and confused. That seemed like a lot of work just to make a simple fire no? And what was she even going to do with a fire?

And somehow the girl surprised her again by rushing back out of the cave and arriving back a minute later carrying more sticks, placing them down near the fire she then approached the boar and nervously looked up at Violet. Violet blinked and tilted her head wondering what she wanted from her.

The girl then proceeded to gesture at the boar and used one of her small claws to dig at a hunk of the meat and try to pull it away, then when not successful she gestured down at Violets claws and back at the boar. 'Oh she wants my help cutting a piece of meat off as her strange claws are not good enough' nodding to this logic she approached and as asked used her claw to cut off a chunk of meat from the boar and allowed the girl to claim it.

She then proceeded to stab the meat onto a stick and then moved over to the fire and proceeded to hold the meat on a stick over the fire. Shortly after a delightful smell of cooking meat wafted through the cave causing Violets eyes to widen, as she nearly started drooling at the succulent smell.

Luna was quite happy with herself, it had been quite a challenge to start the fire but thankfully the little dragon helped her cut a piece of boar off, she now sat next to the fire slowly cooking the chunk of meat. She watched out of the corner of her eye as the dragon stared at the cooking meat with starry eyes and a little bit of drool escaping her mouth. Seeing this Luna couldn't help but laugh at how ridicules this whole situation was.

However with her laughing she lost track off the baby dragon and suddenly her meat stick was yanked out of her hand, quickly looking up she watched in shock as the baby dragon was tearing into her but of meat with gusto. "Hey that was mine!" Luna shouted instinctively reaching back out to grab back her stick. But before she could even get to it the dragon had finished off her chunk of meat.

Violet truly enjoyed the cooked meat, in fact she might go so far as to say it was one of the best meals she had ever had. She heard the small sad one shout something out, but with one last bite she finished off the meat. Only then did she look up at the small sad one and instantly froze. The small sad one was looking at her with a complicated expression, a mix of betrayal, annoyance and sadness were on her face and suddenly Violet didn't feel so happy with herself for stealing that bit of meat that she had just given to the girl.

Before she could do anything though the girl burst into tears again and rushed over to the far side of the cave to be alone. That now all too familiar feeling of her chest being squeezed returned and for Violet, this time it felt even worse as she had been the direct reason for the girl to be this upset.

Luna didn't know quite why she was crying again but she just couldn't help herself, she had almost forgotten about everything that had happened and was beginning to feel better about things but when she had hear meat stolen it just brought everything back, that small feeling of loss ballooned out of proportion and caused all the pain to return.

She sat by herself for some time slowly working to get her emotions back under control and only partially succeeding. However she soon heard the sound of clawed feet approaching her slowly. "Go away!" She cried out not willing to let go of the feeling of hurt and betrayal. However, after a moments pause the footsteps continued to get closer.

When they were next to her she turned her head and was about to repeat herself when she paused and noticed what the dragon was holding in its mouth. It was holding a stick with a partially burned piece of meat on the end of it and was looking at her with a look of regret and hope? Whilst turning her head and presenting the meat to her.

Luna couldn't help but laugh at the sight. Her light chuckle soon turned into a full laugh that managed to wipe away a good amount of the pain for now as she looked at the silly little dragon that was trying to make her feel better by offering her what she had taken from her. The simple gesture was something that Luna was sure she wouldn't forget anytime soon. Reaching out her hand she gently took the meat stick and with a smile took a bite, only to gag slightly as she realised that the meat was most definitely still raw on the inside.

Well it was the thought that mattered she supposed with a sigh.
