Something dangerous skipped in my chest at that realization that someone was watching me.

Not that I cared, but it didn't feel like just any eyes. It felt predatory, hungry like an animal over its prey, no matter where it ran to.

Then I saw him. 

Those red blistering eyes that always stole away the beautiful sky-blue ones whenever they met me. For something I knew nothing of.

For a crime I never committed. Was it now a taboo to save a dying stranger you meet by the road? I cursed inwardly when the pains, the torture, kept flooding.

I turned towards the servant quarters, avoiding those lingering eyes on me.

Now seated at the edge of the bed, my eyes blurred as painful waters made their way through my bruised heart.

Just an inch near death before he…

My thoughts froze, like water in an iceberg. My heart raced drastically with the intensity of light.

There he was, of all people. His eyes lingered on me. At the door, a cold, unreadable gaze.
