Chapter 88 - I and Lu Yuan Are Fifty-Five

The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect.

For weeks now, rumors had spread like wildfire across the clan. Yu Luomian had returned with his estranged daughter Liu Erlong, and there was no denying the truth—the once fiercely independent woman had come back… pregnant.

The Sect couldn't hide it forever. Erlong's belly was growing by the day, and her stubborn refusal to end the pregnancy had driven Yu Luomian to let the truth out himself. Better that, he reasoned bitterly, than letting the vultures whisper behind his back.

And whisper they did.

"Did the second master really catch the one who got her pregnant?"

"Catch him? He said it himself. Would the second master lie?"

"I heard it's Yu Xiaogang!"

"What? That washed-up waste who was expelled years ago?"

"Yes! Him!"

"Unbelievable. That's his cousin, isn't it? What kind of man does such a thing?"

"Beast! Worse than a beast!"

"If the rumor's true, Yu Xiaogang should have his… eggs fried by the clan elders!"

Disciples huddled in groups of twos and threes, muttering furiously. The entire mountain was buzzing. Some voices dripped with outrage, some with disbelief, and others with shame.

Brothers' Return

Among those listening were Yu Tianxin and Yu Tianheng. The two cousins had just returned to the clan after their stints at their respective academies… only to be greeted with this whirlwind of scandal.

When they pieced the story together—that their second uncle had dragged back a pregnant daughter, and this child in her belly might be the result of Yu Xiaogang's supposed disgrace—both brothers were stunned.

"So let me get this straight," Yu Tianxin muttered. "We suddenly have… an aunt we never met. Pregnant. Which means we'll soon have either a little cousin… or another nephew?"

"And possibly a brand new uncle," Yu Tianheng added flatly, rubbing his temple.

The more they thought about it, the messier it became.

What kind of twisted drama was this? Since when had their mighty Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan devolved into such a soap opera?

Brotherly Bickering

"Tianheng," Yu Tianxin asked casually, trying to distract his brain from the madness. "How's life at Kamikaze Academy? I heard you went for an exchange."

"Very good." Tianheng smirked. "Much better than back at the imperial academy."

"Of course." Tianxin sneered. "Because you don't have to deal with Lu Yuan breathing down your neck every day."

"…" Yu Tianheng's smug look faltered.

His older cousin's smile was merciless. "I've heard all about it. When Lu Yuan was in your Advanced Class, you people lived like beaten dogs. Didn't even dare open your mouths."

"Shut up."

Tianxin pressed harder. "I also heard, when you saw him outside Heaven Dou City recently, you ran first and didn't dare greet him."

Yu Tianheng's face twitched. He remembered clearly. That day he did try to avoid Lu Yuan quietly. But unfortunately, the bastard had spotted him. Luckily, Lu Yuan had been in a good mood and didn't beat him, just carried a pot of Blue Silver Grass and left.

At the time, Tianheng had been so relieved he nearly collapsed.

"Joke!" Tianheng countered desperately. "I'm the class monitor. Afraid of him? Never! In fact, the guy listens to me. If I say no wine, he doesn't even dare pick up the cup!"

Yu Tianxin burst out laughing. "Ha! What a joke. The great Lu Yuan, obedient to you? The same Lu Yuan who beats seniors for fun?"

"Don't just laugh at me," Tianheng started to fight back. "What about you? Don't you like that Shui Bing'er from Tianshui Academy? Hm?"

Color drained from Tianxin's face. "What nonsense are you—"

But Tianheng leaned in, smug smile sharp. "Funny thing. I heard Lu Yuan's been very close with Shui Bing'er lately. Very close…"

Tianxin's face darkened to thunderclouds.

"Who said I like her? She can like me all she wants; I'm not interested!" he snapped, puffing his chest in denial.

"Then why did I hear," Tianheng cut in sweetly, "that when you went to Tianshui College to see her, Lu Yuan caught you and beat you up?"

"Bullshit!" Tianxin nearly exploded. "That's pure rumor! I wasn't beaten! I just—took a strategic retreat!"

"Oh sure. Retreated so fast the mountains shook, right?"

"Damn it—!!"

The cousins shouted, cursed, and bickered like dogs in the yard, refusing to yield. For as much as they mocked each other, both were equally guilty of being terrified of Lu Yuan. And everyone watching knew it.

The Siren

Suddenly, a long mournful call echoed through the mountains.

"Wooo—hoo—!!"

Disciples stiffened. It was the Sect's alarm—a call only used when outsiders approached the mountain gate.

Yu Tianheng and Yu Tianxin froze mid-argument and exchanged looks.

Quickly, disciples scrambled to the observation platform, eyes scanning the valley below.

There, drifting slowly along the river, was a small willow-wood boat. A single man sat cross-legged on the prow, garbed in simple robes and a wide hat. In his hands was—not a weapon.

But a wine jar.

He drank leisurely, one long swallow at a time, letting the current carry him straight toward the Sect's gate.

The crowd muttered nervously.

"Who is that? Not Yu Luomian…"

"The silhouette isn't his."

"Then who—?"

"There's a big sack in the back of the boat…"

"Probably just a pig."

"Looks heavy though. Must be a fat one."

The Arrival

The Sect Master himself arrived flanked by elders and dozens of disciples, all wary.

The boat eased into the shore. The stranger set down his jar, rose slowly, and tipped back his hat.

"Lu Yuan?!"

The shout rang out from two voices at once—Yu Tianxin and Yu Tianheng. Both brothers' jaws dropped at the same time.

What was this monster doing here? In their sect?!

Their feet twitched to spring away. If they could disappear without a trace right now, they would gladly vanish.

But before they could flee, Lu Yuan casually drew his sword.

"Shing—"

In one smooth arc, he slashed down at the sack in the boat.

Rip—crash!

The sack split apart in a burst of tearing cloth. Its contents rolled out onto the dock.

And the entire Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect choked in disbelief.

Because inside wasn't any pig. It was Yu Luomian—their esteemed second master. Tied up, gagged with dried grass, and looking absolutely miserable.

The sect fell silent.

Nobody had words.

Yu Luomian's Bitterness

Sprawling in the dirt, gag torn away, Yu Luomian spat out the fibers from his mouth and groaned.

His face was bruised. His hair was a tangled mess. On his cheek, a swelling welt promised to turn purple.

His expression, though, contained nothing but despair. His weary eyes turned toward the heavens as if asking the sky why it hated him so much.

If he had known earlier, he never—never—would have ambushed Lu Yuan.

Regret burned deep. Bitter regret.

Now here he was. Bound, beaten, and displayed at the gates of his own Sect like a stray dog dragged home.

What was worse… this little brat was soon to be his son-in-law! By all rights, Lu Yuan should already be calling him "Father-in-law."

Yet here he was, trussed up like livestock, carried in a sack.

Where was the respect for the elderly? Where was the dignity of the sect?

This humiliation was unbearable. And the shame would sting even more. Because everyone had seen. Everyone.

Could things get worse?

Yes.

Because at that very moment, Lu Yuan dusted off his hands, sheathed his sword, and grinned wolfishly at the stunned sect disciples.

"Alright. I'm here. Now bring me to Erlong."

The mountain trembled with outrage, disbelief, and whispers.

Lu Yuan had arrived. And as always, peace would never follow in his footsteps.
