Chapter 20

Don't You Think It's Wonderful?

The soldier shouted in a booming voice, a blend of anger and awe trembling within it, his sharp eyes locked on the strange young man seated on horseback.

"Who are you? Identify yourself, boy!"

Not a trace of fear appeared on Einver's face. Instead, a calm smile, tinged with confidence and indifference, lingered upon his lips. He lifted his head slightly and replied in a low, deep voice:

"Who am I? … I am nothing more than a wanderer, traveling across the lands of this world, moving from place to place, searching for its secrets and marveling at its wonders. My name is Einver… I roam the earth to witness all that it holds, to taste both the sweetness of experience and the bitterness that comes with it."

The soldier's expression shifted, caught between ridicule and astonishment. He sneered and asked mockingly:

"How old are you, boy? And where have you come from?"

Einver's faint, confident smile never wavered, as though he wished to show the world he feared nothing. He answered:

"I am eighteen years old, sir. As for my homeland… I hail from a remote mountain region, far from traveled roads. I doubt you would have heard of it."

The soldier tightened his tone, his curiosity now wrestling with his rigid discipline as he pressed further:

"And what is your purpose in coming to the city of Taiyo no Hikari?"

Einver's serene smile remained, carrying within it a strange calm. He answered softly:

"Did I not already tell you? I am a wanderer. My purpose is to see the world with my own eyes, to explore it fully. Don't you think that's wonderful, soldier?"

The young man's tranquil response stirred the soldier's curiosity, and he frowned slightly, asking in puzzlement:

"And what exactly do you mean by that, boy?"

Einver raised his gaze to the vast heavens above, as though seeing before him a path stretching into the unknown. His voice came forth, rich with passion:

"Don't you think that to witness the world and uncover its mysteries is worth every ounce of effort and struggle? We are but fragile beings before the might of this universe, yet still, we grow, we harden, we evolve with time.

Have you ever wondered how the seas and mountains were formed? Have you ever imagined placing your feet upon the sky itself, carving out a path that no one has prepared for you? A road not drawn by others, but forged by your own choices, your own will.

I am Einver, master of my own actions and destiny. I chose to wander this world, to witness its wonders and marvels, to see every secret this cosmos conceals."

Lowering his head slowly, he fixed his gaze directly upon the soldier. His eyes burned crimson, glowing like embers alive with ceaseless flame. Yet the same faint smile still adorned his face.

A brief silence followed, and astonishment rippled among all who had heard him. Some sank into thought, as though his words had stirred something long buried in their hearts. Others, however, burst into laughter, mocking his speech.

"What nonsense is this foolish boy spouting? Has he lost his mind?"

"He must be an idiot."

"A youth not yet grown, pretending to speak like his elders!"

But Einver remained unmoved, meeting their scorn with his quiet smile. His voice dropped, deep and steady:

"Ah… the ignorant always believe themselves the sole bearers of truth.

Give a donkey a carrot, and it will follow until the carrot is gone. But give a man a purpose, and he will chase it no matter how much the world mocks him.

The difference between failure and success… is pure truth."

His words sparked anger in some, while others remained unsettled, at a loss for how to respond. Yet the one most affected in that moment was not among them, but the unseen figure seated within the carriage.

For a fleeting instant, silence reigned—until the stillness shattered with the sound of laughter ringing loud and clear. It came from the carriage itself. Heads turned in shock, all eyes fixing upon its wooden door as it began to creak open.

The soldiers moved instantly, forming a rigid line in strict formation before the door. One hurried forward, setting a small wooden step at its threshold.

Moments later, a dazzling young woman emerged from within.

She wore a crimson dress that clung perfectly to her slender form, while a sheer veil covered her face, allowing only glimpses of her radiant, delicate features. Her glossy black hair flowed like a river of silk down to her lower back. Her dark, shimmering eyes sparkled like twin stars in a clear sky, carrying within them an enchantment that could ensnare anyone bold enough to meet their gaze.

Her presence was so commanding that every heart quickened at the mere sight of her. And the instant her feet touched the ground, the soldiers roared in unison:

"We welcome Princess Sun Mi!"

At the echo of her name, all the guards bowed low in reverence, their voices united:

"We welcome Princess Sun Mi!"

The princess advanced in steady, graceful steps until she stood directly before Einver. He remained mounted upon his horse, gazing at her with an air of indifference, as though nothing before him was worthy of changing his expression.

One soldier, enraged by his audacity, charged forward with a shout:

"Show some respect to the young princess! Bow, you insolent boy!"

He reached out with his thick hand, seizing Einver's arm to drag him from his horse and force him to kneel. But the moment his fingers tightened, Einver's hand clamped down upon his own with crushing strength. The soldier gritted his teeth, straining to hide the pain, his face set as though unaffected, and pulled harder.

In that instant, the thought of drawing his sword and pressing it against the soldier's throat flashed through Einver's mind. Yet something deep within restrained him. He realized that such recklessness would rouse the entire city against him—not only would he be barred from entering Taiyo no Hikari, but he would become its sworn enemy.

So instead, he merely allowed a faint smile to flicker. Then, with a sudden surge, he squeezed. A faint cracking sound—like the snapping of bone—echoed between them. Einver released the soldier's hand and leapt down from his horse with effortless grace, landing firmly before the princess.

He lifted his head with confidence, his eyes locking upon hers, and spoke in a calm, steady voice:

"Does this noble lady desire something from me, the wanderer Einver?"
