Chapter 1 - Chapter 0.2: Before the transfer (2)

A couple of years have gone by.

The start was quite rough. Why? Well, the job included taking lives.

The first day of my training, I was introduced in this. I visited a prison, and was send to the death row section. In there I was forced to end a mans life. I could not sleep that day. But after a couple of times, it became easier to do.

At a certain point my thoughts became more simple.

"It is not wrong to kill a criminal, it helps with the safety of the general populace."

Combining this with my intelligence and physical abilities, I also became a very well respected asset to this company.

Nowadays, I would be send to protect people of high importance to the government, infiltrate organisations and gain valuable information, or straight up get rid of dangerous people.

I also got a team. Even though we barely worked together with all personnel at the same time, most "projects" we did was with at least 1 or 2 colleagues.

Today was also such a day.

"Ahh, I know your father trusts you a lot. But is this not like, too dangerous? Not to mention that the guy is basically a mob boss. He should be small fry for the government but still."

Minase. A girl of my age and colleague of my team. Sometimes quite clumsy but somehow has the talent to get away with everything. Well, a talent is a talent.

"You know why these people are small fry for the government right? It is literally because we do these jobs for the government. But I do agree. We got send here without too much information, and we are basically entering the lion's den. I feel like there is a lack of information."

Minase nodded, but sighs afterwards.

"Well, let's get this over with. If normal negotiations don't work, we should always be available to escape out of here. A suppression squad is at the ready after all for if negotiations break down and things turn aggressive."

Since Minase is ready to go, I follow suit. I still feel like there is some info missing, like something is bugging me. But I should keep my attention to our target.

Once we knock on a door in a dimly lit alleyway, a person opens.

"Our boss has been expecting you, follow me in."

Again, things go to smoothly. No identification confirmation necessary, no checking for weapons, everything is going like it shouldn't.

We enter an office, and this time a mob tycoon lookalike is leaning back on his chair with his feet on his desk. Weirdly enough, he was wearing sunglasses in a dimly lit room, while it was close to midnight. He certainly does not want to be recognized.

"Welcome, they certainly did send people who appeal to me!"

I felt slightly disgusted. Never have I been interested in men, simply because people like this were common on a daily basis for me. I know better than thinking every male is like this, but it became a reason for me to not feel attracted to them.

"We have some info we want to discuss."

I offer the man my briefcase.

He opens it and quickly inspects it.

"Great, the government always licks our boots after all. So deals are trustworthy. But plan has changed. I want you as part of he deal."

The man leans slightly to the right.

Ofcourse. Now that he has what he wants, he tries to get more. Gang leaders are always so predictable. Luckily we are prepared.

I duck to the right. This sudden move surprised the gang leader. I already noticed that he was ready to draw his weapon by leaning to the right. That, combined with his awful choice of sunglasses at low light levels meant I could easily get the upper hand. I draw my gun and.

*Click*.

The gun does not fire, and it feels awfully light.

I check, and no bullet in the magazine. I take cover behind the couch and warn Minase.

"Minase, my gun has no ammo, take cover and get that jerk!".

"That 'jerk', is my father..."

I look at Minase. She is not taking cover and the man is not shooting at her either.

"I see. No need for ID check, no need to check for weapons. Things were awfully smooth getting in here. I should have expected it."

I should have. But being loyal to a company means trusting my colleagues.

"Father, how many times have I told you to not wear sunglasses at night. That awful style of your could have gotten you killed."

"How so? You disarmed her right?"

"Yeah, I took her bullets away. Though watch out, she is oddly skilled with different weapons. She even had the highest accuracy with throwing knives."

Minase said while aiming her pistol at me.

"Wait a second, minase alsways carries her fathers knife in her boot!"

Realising her mistake, she pulls the trigger, but I have also thrown my knife.

As in slow motion, the dagger and bullet passes each other mid air.

Immediately after, a sharp pain enters my throat. And I fall down. Once I hit the floor, I could hear a second body crashing against the floor.

"MINASE!" is the last thing I hear.

And afterwards, my other senses start to dissapear. My sight became black, and the only thing I could feel until the end, was the taste of blood in my mouth.
