Chapter 3 - darkened embrace.

Chapter 3

I look into Corgan's eyes. His eyes, cold but they held sorrow for the scene that he had to behold. "Please. I want to slaughter them all, every one of them." My eyes continue to flood with oily black tears, my voice filled with an unfamiliar malice and hate for the people who set my home ablaze. He grabs my shoulder "Alright, we'll share everything we know, but you need to explain something to us." I stay silent. I'm already aware of what he wants to ask. "You're ability, I need you to explain what exactly I saw" I take a deep breath in, so that my words come out at least a little bit understandable. "My ability allows me to control the dead. It wasn't hard to figure out every time a new shadow came to me I heard their last thoughts. All of their last thoughts." The silence is deafening only broken by my voice. "Now, you tell me everything, from the people with abilities, to those nights in white armor." Corgan's voice takes a serious yet gentle tone. "I'll explain everything but there's somewhere we must go first." I stay cautious of him, my trust falling rapidly. "Why? Where are you trying to take me?" He signals to Silva, in which she picks up a phone from her pocket, I watch as she calls someone on the phone with slight enthusiasm. "Hey, tell me what you're doing now." Corgen turns back to me, his expression hard to read as he stares at me with a slight glimmer of hope in his eyes, but what is he hoping for? "I'm about to answer your first question kid, but rather then tell you, why don't I show you" my eyes widen as a single blue glowing dot appears, as it begins to change moving downward turning into a line, it seems to rip open the sky as the line starts to open revealing a man in glasses on the other side. "What was so important that you called me out this late?" the man looks annoyed, with bags under his eyes like he'd just been woken up, with messy short brown hair that fit his face perfectly. He sees me and his eyes perk up slightly. "OH is it a new recruit." I turn my head to Corgan, and he opens his mouth and speaks again. "This man is named Honse. He can make portals to locations as long as he has some connection to them." I stand there in slight surprise, my mind flooded with more questions. "Where is he bringing us" Corgan in his always serious manner stretches his hand out to me. "Join us. We can use more people with abilities." I stare at his hand as I pause before grabbing his rough hands. "I will, but I have one condition. My sister's shadow never came to me, meaning she's alive, and they most likely took her. I want you to help me find her and slaughter those pigs." Corgan seemed happy with my response thoe hard to tell. Silva came to me and took my hand. "Then let's hurry in. Corgan get a move." She yelled as she dragged me into the portal. I step inside and the scenery changes, what was originally a night sky lit only by the flames that took my home, is now a dark room with almost no visibility. Honse flicks the light switch to reveal what seems like a reception area, with a wide desk, a single sofa, and a long red carpet running along the middle of the marble floor. "Why were the lights off?" I asked looking at Honse as he rubbed his eyes. "Because I just woke up it would hurt, but I figured I would let you at least see." Though he looks like a wreck right now, I figured that he may be in charge of this room because of his hospitality. "I can see perfectly fine in the dark, don't worry about it." He raises an eyebrow "Silva what exactly is his ability?" Silva just gives a nervous laugh and smile. "It's complicated I'll explain later." Corgan approaches and places a hand on my shoulder "You will be working under my unit, so I'd better introduce you to your team." I blink twice the thought had slipped my mind 'Team, I wonder what they're like.' Corgan has me follow him through the building, until we come to a secure door that looks like it's meant to lock up a dangerous criminal. He opens the door and it leads to a room with nothing inside, expected the square tiles that were used for the walls, floor, and ceiling. "This is the training room, the name is self-explanatory, and don't let the empty space fool you, this room has a lot in it you just need to activate it." I look down at the tiles on the floor there so white I could see my reflecting. A room that is my exact opposite. "Allen I'll be back with the team you'll be a part of, just wait here." Corgan leaves the room as I stand there alone, well not as alone as I thought. My shadow begins to crawl from the ground, as it begins to crawl up my back like a disgusting bug. "What is it now? I'm not in the mood." I look at it his white pupil, glowing just like his permanent white smile "Hey there's no need for hostility, I'm here to help after all." His words mean nothing I don't feel like I can trust him. "And how do you plan to do that? Return my sister to me?" His expression doesn't change but I can tell his smile is growing. "Actually yes I can." I turn quickly stare at him a deep anger in my eyes. "LIKE HELL YOU CAN!" He stares at me and waves my anger away as he wraps his body around me. "I'm serious after all we're partners. I do care about what happens to you." Despite the lack of trust, I feel like he's being honest, like we're linked. "And how do you plan to do that?" He shifts now slithering his way behind me, as he puts his hand on mine. "I'll show you how to use your ability to it's fullest, I just want one thing in return." Only my eyes move to see his head over my shoulder. "And what is it you're after?" His shadow-like body wraps more and more around like we're merging in a grotesque blob-like manner, making my body temperature as cold as death. "I want more shadows, and they can't be from natural causes or by someone else's hands, I want you to be the cause." I let my body get swallowed by the shadow-like creature that inhabits my shadow, only leaving my head. "Then I agree, they will pay for what they did to my family. Not one will make it out alive." I can feel the joy growing in him, as my hand stretches out with his. "Then I will enlighten you for just a fraction of what you're capable of." I feel my hands tight like it's grabbing for something, and as I squeeze tighter it comes to a halt. 'I'm, grabbing something?' I can feel something in my hands solid, but there's no weight. Then the darkness from my body travels to my hands, and the thought of a sword pops into my head. The shadows that gathered at my hands extend further out, getting thinner the more it travels, until it stops, the shadows travel away from the objects now in my hands as I stare in awe. It's a sword, completely black in color nothing special about the blade's design, except for its shape. 'I might be able to change it' I close my eyes and gather the darkness again but I pull it away from the blade, as I try to think perfectly about what I want and finally I open my eyes. I hold the small kitchen knife in my hand. It was mothers favorite for cooking. I drop the knife and it dissolves returning to it's shadow-like state. "So how was it?" I look back at IT, not out of hate this time it's a first. "It's amazing, I never thought I could do something like this." IT seems happy that I'm starting to appreciate him more. "And you can do far more if you provide more shadows, but there are a couple of warnings." He lifts one finger. "First, it's completely concentration-based, even for the smallest nanosecond, if you stop focusing it will disappear." He lifts another finger, holding up two. "I can only teach you these I can't master it for you, so that's all on you." I nod to IT- "Hey how about I give you a name?" He pauses and tilts his head. "A name?" I've been thinking he's and it for the longest time, I should start showing more appreciation for him. "Yeah a name I was she what to call you but you look like me, so I decided to call you Al, does that sound good to you?" He stays silent for a moment I still can't read his smile, until. "Al it is then." I nod and he sinks back into my shadow, as I hear the door to the training room open. 'It must be my team well time to see what they're like.'
