Chapter 4 - Milo

"Thanks" I say to the worker while grabbing my change and nodding goodbye. I take out a stick of sweet from the pack next to the bottles of milk in my Nylon bag. Unwrapping the sweet I pop it into my mouth and walk giddily as the bottles clink and clank to my sugar rush. Pausing my few moments of joy I straighten my demeanor noticing a little kid and his mom frown disgustingly at me, I almost choke on a laugh as I walk straight back home 'they probably thought I was a lunatic'

I admire the lit-up streets as I walk, taking up the smell of fresh foods being made for customers, it's the busiest time of the night. 9:00 pm not so late not so early and also a holiday, every kid is home for the summer break, workers are released early because of the holidays, most public parks food-stores are cheaper and families just wanna bond with whatever spare time they have. A loud bang from a Chinese restaurant distracts my thoughts, I skooch to the side as I watch a bunch of Chinese workers scream and run out, I help one, a woman looking like she was in her mid-30's who almost face planted to the ground, she was wearing an apron over a white shirt and her hair neatly packed, she smelled like salmon, probably a chef who lost her hat. "Thanks" I nodded in response "what happened ma'am" "I don noor, chus be careful fight fight" I tried asking her more questions but her face frightened and full of more fear after a loud bang escaped from the restaurant, this time it was a fire explosion that sent everyone outside on the floor with much less damage he farther you were from the place. There had been reports like this for moths many high end or even low end public places around the world were getting explosions or mass fights and now it seemed to have happened in this town today, I opened my eyes seeing my milk bottles landed on the woman as I held her from the impact, lifting up the bag I noticed her shift and regain consciousness, I hauled a taxi and when she woke up I offered her to join and tried to pay with my cash, but instead she gave me a small cardboard purse and said 'thankyou' smiling and nodding jeering me to take it before leaving. I watched as the taxi sped off in the opposite direction. Taking another sweet I sped up my pace not liking the aura as the place filled up with firefighters ready to access the situation in the already scorched up building behind me now.

I stopped buy another store where Nan always buys her thread, she wanted me to buy her a new silk thread an a needle for her embroidery sessions tomorrow, checking my change I was so glad I wasn't short and I paid for it, upon coming out I heard a familiar voice shouting, nosily I poked into the roadside, my eyes popping as I saw Rei his face full of worry as he held Jake's face "are you okay" he said following with "I told you not to carry it" he then picks up the flowers from the floor with all his strength they must have weighted a ton, making another gesture of worry on his face as he stretched his hands "can you get up" Jake nods taking his hand and getting up while holding his right abdomen. What's up with those two?  I rolled my eyes observing as they entered the building and shortly after some men come out to carry the bouquet of flowers three of those heavy things carried effortlessly, I snickered remembering how Rei was struggling with it. Suddenly a wave of worry hit me, what was he doing here, and why? It didn't have to matter to me but it did, ever since I found out Rei and Jake were dating, my blood would boil leaving me in the most bizarre situation of uneasiness. Rei wasn't my responsibility anymore he made that very clear he never wanted to see me, but what was I so fixated on protecting him and something didn't feel right or maybe I'm just being a selfish lot because I can't handle my feelings for him. Was he here because Jake lured him to this fancy hotel? Where they going to spend the night here?

I watch as two of the workers come back to the car leaving the gate open, I drop my nylon bag down and stealthily sneak into the gates without the workers noticing. 'I'm gonna protect Rei once more even if he doesn't want me to'.

Sneaking around I catch sight of them ushering the bouquet arrangements in a room I hide behind some people, very sure that if they spotted me they would recognize me in a heartbeat last thing I needed was to be the one to ruin Rei's night as if that wasn't what I'm just doing. I watch as they finish arrange the rooms, eager to know their discussion I get closer to the room and hide behind the wall in the corridor adjacent to their room '401' the sign plastered on the head of the door frame, seemed fancy probably a VIP room what exactly is going on?  I was about to find out "Do you think she'll like it" Jake echoes in the hall easily as the soundproof door wasn't closed because of the decorators and I was close enough. "Of course she will" Rei says "from what we've gathered she will be thrilled, now all that's left is for you to take your medicine and relax" they pause for a moment making me uneasy and then they speak again " ill go get the drinks" Rei says another pause "No lets go I want to view this place too we're going to be in here Throughout the evening I don't want to get anxious. "Sure" Rei replies then sends the workers out and shortly after, they exit out together. I was thankful for the slow impact closing doors and their lack of care for the door as they seem more distracted by some mysterious 'she' I block the door from locking and I slide in to find a good hiding spot, I must be crazy because what?

I see a see-through shadow closet it's enough to see what's going on from the inside but you wouldn't see anything happening on the outside in, usually for changing clothes while with lots of strangers in the room and now this was my chance before they got back in and I took no waste in using it.
