Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Night Whispers

Amanda sat on her bed, her phone illuminating the dim light of her room. Richard's number was saved in her contacts now, and though their conversation had been brief, his deep, warm voice echoed in her mind like a captivating melody she couldn't ignore.

She vividly replayed their encounter: the smile that softened his strong features, the calmness in his tone, and the way he offered help without hesitation. He had been a stranger, yet in that moment, he felt remarkably familiar.

Her phone buzzed, pulling her from her thoughts. A WhatsApp notification lit up the screen.

Richard: "I hope you made it home safely. I've been wondering."

Amanda smiled instantly, a warmth spreading through her. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard as she considered her response—playful or formal? She chose confidence.

Amanda: "Yes, I'm home. Thank you again, Richard. You were my hero today."

His reply came almost immediately.

Richard: "Hero? You flatter me. But I'm glad I was there at the right time. Honestly, I've noticed you before."

Amanda's heart raced—he had noticed her? Leaning back on the bed, she eagerly continued reading.

Richard: "I live in Greenline Estate too. We're neighbors. I've always admired how you carry yourself—so confident and graceful."

A rush of warmth filled her cheeks. She had always considered herself hard to impress, yet here she was, feeling like a giddy teenager.

Amanda: "Really? I had no idea. So you've been hiding next door all this time?"

Richard: "Maybe I was waiting for the right moment. Fate just helped me along."

Amanda laughed softly, covering her mouth as if he could hear her amusement. There was an authenticity in his words that struck a chord deep within her.

Their conversation flowed effortlessly, as though they had known each other far longer than just a few hours. They delved into work, life, and shared childhood memories. Richard revealed he was an architect who had recently returned from working abroad, while Amanda shared snippets of her journey, her challenges, and the pride she took in her independence.

At one point, Richard asked, "You seem so strong, Amanda. Do you ever allow yourself to lean on anyone?"

The question resonated deeply. For years, she had built walls—carefully and deliberately—to guard her heart. Yet here was this man, gently inquiring if she would let someone stand beside her.

With newfound confidence, she typed:

Amanda: "Maybe… I just needed the right person to lean on."

There was a pause, long enough to make her wonder if she had revealed too much. Then his reply arrived.

Richard: "Then let me prove to you that I can be that person."

Amanda felt her breath catch, exhilarated. She placed the phone on her chest, staring up at the ceiling, her heart pounding with excitement.

As the night deepened around her, sleep eluded her. Each vibration of her phone and every word Richard sent felt like a promise of something beautifully new. For the first time in a long while, Amanda's world felt alive and full of possibilities.

In her heart, a new chapter was beginning—one she hadn't dared to envision before, but now she was ready to embrace fully.
