It had been 4 years since then. Riley had grown up to be a cute baby girl with blue starry night eyes and blond hair. Her big eyes drew the attention of many visitors. However, that was the reason she received hatred from many children around the orphanage, and also her name—she was the only one named by her parents, as per the warden which made others envious of her.
Riley was small in height compared to the other kids. Today, she was asked to do the chores of cleaning plates. A plate slipped from her tiny hand and fell on her feet. It injured her feet. She got scared and decided to pick up the broken parts. she bruised her hands. Blood was coming out, and the leftover food on the plates resulted in stains on her clothes.
That's when Rosette came in. Jealous of her from the very beginning, she complained to the warden. Out of frustration, the warden decided to lock Riley in the dark room. The crying Riley, with sharp pain in her hand and feet, was dragged into the room. The dark storeroom was the most frightening part of the orphanage, where dark loneliness used to engulf her.
Before reaching the room, she dashed into Ethan. Ethan is an aloof boy with sharp facial features, dark black eyes and hair, and pale skin. He is the warden's favorite, as he is more intelligent than his peers. His intelligence helped the warden gain donations from many rich people during Children's Inspection Day. He was the special talent of the orphanage, due to which the warden took good care of him.
Ethan asked the warden if he could lock up Riley on her behalf. There was a special guest who had arrived and was looking for the warden. Hearing this, the warden let go of Riley's hand and stormed toward the entrance to welcome the esteemed guest.
Riley fell down due to lack of balance. Her knees started hurting more. The floor had some stains of blood. Ethan scanned her with his small sharp eyes and held her up, taking her to the dark room.
Scared of the room, Riley started shivering more as they got close to the storeroom. Ethan could feel it but decided not to say anything. When they reached the door, Ethan put Riley down. Scared, Riley held his last finger and asked in her cute small voice : "Can I please not go? I am too scared of the dark," With tears in her eyes, which were ready to come out at any moment. This was first time, Riley talked to him.
Ethan listened but ignored her and opened the door to show her the way into the room. Riley went inside, scared, with tearful eyes and dragging her leg. Inside was complete blackout.
Looking at her injury, Ethan felt something strange in his heart. He locked the door and started thinking, "Why am I having strange feelings for that child?" He knew he didn't have a heart as he was a demon, so why did he feel strange? Yes, Ethan is a demon who ran away from home—the only child of the Demon King.
He moved his finger, and a small light appeared that only he could see, following Riley as she went inside the room. After that, Ethan went to the office.
Inside the dark room, Riley's injury stopped hurting, and she somehow saw the light roaming around her. She thought a fairy had blessed her and that her injury was cured by the appearance of the light. She thanked the fairy by looking at the small window around the corner where the small light was coming from and spent all night thinking about fairy magic before falling asleep.
This was the first time she felt so relaxed in the dark. The shimmering light was still there the entire night, afraid she might get scared if it disappeared when she woke up.
