OPTC Chapter 219: Thank God My Head Didn't Turn Into a Butt
The fighting strength of ordinary pirates didn't bring much surprise to Ye Yan. People often said Night Watchers weren't good at hand-to-hand combat, but it always depended on the opponent.
After all, he was someone who could beat ordinary monsters into the ground. Against these low-level pirates, Ye Yan could easily take on five at once without even using his brain or magic tools.
As for pirates being ruthless, Ye Yan had long seen worse, even people being torn apart by bare hands. Because of this, there was no worry that he might hold back in a fight. Zhang Da Ye and Rui Meng Meng had already gone through training against countless human traffickers, which gave them the right mindset for real combat.
Thanks to that training, Rui Meng Meng had become frighteningly efficient. With every swing of her sword, at least one pirate was taken out of the fight. Her nimble footwork meant that no matter how many tried to surround her, not a single one could even brush the corner of her clothes.
Zhang Da Ye, on the other hand, went for a big guy named Burger, the same one who had batted cannonballs with an iron club earlier. His arms were as long as his legs, and he looked somewhat like a gorilla.
Standing five meters tall, Burger forced Zhang Da Ye to look up at him. Poor Tom had it worse—he had to tilt his head so far back that he ended up bending into a backbend until his head smacked the ground.
Burger leaned down with his iron club, trying to suppress his laughter at the two small figures before him, then swung his weapon down hard.
Zhang Da Ye could have dodged easily, but instead he picked up a lamppost to block it.
With a loud clang, Zhang Da Ye was pushed back a step. He shook his hand and muttered, "This lamppost is really sturdy. If someone like this can hit this hard just with a club, then Teacher Kaido's Thunder Bagua must be insane."
Burger's hands tingled from the clash. "Not bad, little guy. You've got strength."
The two exchanged a few heavy blows. After gauging Burger's power, Zhang Da Ye stepped back and shouted: "Activate Super Transformation Mode!"
In an instant, his body shot up from 1.8 meters to over three meters tall. That lamppost, which had looked ridiculously oversized before, now fit perfectly in his hands.
He had only discovered this power earlier that day while teaching Perona morning exercises. The moment he shouted those words, he felt he could transform. He tried it again while blocking cannon fire, and the feeling returned. Now he had finally found the right opponent to test it out on.
The transformation clearly came from Shark Chili's ability. With his body enlarged, Zhang Da Ye felt strength surging through him. The lamppost felt feather-light in his hands.
"This is so embarrassing. Why do I have to shout it out loud just to transform?!"
Even while grumbling, he twirled the lamppost like a staff, testing his new strength.
It all seemed great, except for one problem—his clothes didn't grow with him. His loose T-shirt had become a tight crop top, and his pants had shrunk into shorts.
Thankfully, he had chosen stretchy workout clothes that morning, or else this transformation would have been socially fatal.
Tom once again craned his neck too far, bent back, smacked his head on the ground, and toppled over, showing he never learned his lesson.
Burger stared at Zhang Da Ye's enlarged body without surprise. To him, this wasn't romantic enough—no fancy armor, no mechanical transformation. Just growing bigger wasn't impressive. So he swung his iron club again.
Zhang Da Ye calmly tugged at his tight collar, then caught the club with one hand.
No matter how hard Burger tried, he couldn't pull it free. The lamppost came down hard across his face, sending him flying into the ship's cabin and crashing through several walls.
But the one who cared most about Zhang Da Ye's transformation was Shark Chili. He had clearly heard the words "Super Transformation Mode." The distraction nearly got him punched from behind.
He countered with a spinning kick, knocking his attacker away, then cleared out the pirates around him with a flurry of punches before rushing to Zhang Da Ye's side.
"Boss Da Ye, what's going on? Did you turn into a robot?"
Zhang Da Ye pinched his arm. "Not really. My body and strength just got bigger. Remember, I told you I can borrow abilities from you guys?"
Shark Chili sighed. "What a shame. If you had turned into metal, you'd be even stronger. Honestly, your Super Transformation Mode isn't much of a transformation. Kinda false advertising."
"No, no, this is already great," Zhang Da Ye said firmly. "At least my head didn't turn into a butt. If that had happened, I'd never use this move again!"
"What's so bad about that?" Shark Chili asked, puzzled. He thought of Kabuto, the Spider Detective, and Kero Frog. Their bodies flipped upside down all the time, and none of them had ever refused to transform.
"Uh…" Zhang Da Ye decided to drop the subject. "Forget it. Let's finish off these enemies. Tom, let's—huh? Tom?"
Tom had rushed to help Ye Yan, who was about to be ambushed.
Tom's eyes bulged in alarm. He dashed forward and smashed his hammer down on the attacker's foot.
The man dropped his weapon and screamed in agony.
Ye Yan spun around at the sound and knocked him out with a flying hammer strike.
"An opening!" Another pirate lunged at Ye Yan's exposed back, but Tom zipped over again and smashed the man's foot.
The pirate howled, clutching his foot, only to be flattened by Ye Yan's follow-up strike.
From then on, the two seemed to develop a bizarre rhythm in combat:
"An opening!" — *Bang!* — "Aaaagh!" — *Thud!*
"An opening!" — *Bang!* — "Aaaagh!" — *Thud!*
…
Before long, the area around them was littered with groaning pirates, all knocked out while clutching their feet.
Tom wiped sweat from his brow, then shook Ye Yan's hand to celebrate their teamwork.
Ye Yan stared at his hand afterward, puzzled. "I was reaching out to pat his head. How did it turn into a handshake? And why did shaking hands after beating a bunch of nobodies feel like we just saved the world?"
Meanwhile, Foxy had already been defeated—more decisively than his men—because his opponent was Artoria.
At first, he had tried to use his ability to help his crew, but the moment he raised his glowing hand, Artoria was already upon him.
"You actually ran straight at me? How stupid. Feh-feh-feh-feh!" Foxy sneered, clenching his fist and hoping to take down the swordswoman quickly.
But his punch hit nothing but air.
"What? You should have been slowed by my power. Why can you still dodge?" he demanded in disbelief.
"Perona's ability didn't work on me either. Looks like this kind of ability has little effect on me. Maybe it's because of my magical energy," Artoria thought aloud.
"No way! Double Slow Beam!" Foxy shouted, firing two beams at once. Both hit Artoria.
This time, she frowned slightly. There was some effect.
Her movements paused for a heartbeat. Then she stepped forward, swung her sword, and ended the battle.
