Chapter 23 - FİRST IMPRESSİONS

On the morning of the exhibition, the sun was slowly filtering through my window. My heart was still racing; as I took one last look at my canvas, I realized the colors, shadows, and light were still telling my own story. Every brushstroke was a testament to my sleepless nights of work. But there was also anxiety—what if people wouldn't understand, what if my work didn't have the impact I'd hoped for?

I made my way from the studio to the gallery. Even the city's bustling, the morning rush, and the traffic noise fueled my excitement. When I arrived at the gallery, the organizing team was making final preparations; the installations, lighting, and signage looked perfect. I took a deep breath and placed my canvas in its final location.

As the first guests began to arrive, my heart was pounding in my chest. Every step, every whisper, and every glance filled me with both curiosity and tension. At the same time, I tried to read the expressions on the faces of the people standing before my works; some were admiring, others silently examining them.

At that moment, Emir arrived. She smiled as she approached me.

"Are you ready?" she said.

"I think so… but I'm still a little nervous," I said, clasping my hands and taking a deep breath.

"Remember, this is your story. Just be yourself," she added.

As the first few visitors passed by, I began receiving comments on my work. Some marveled at the vibrant colors, while others seemed lost in the details. This made me feel a mixed feeling: both pride and a slight unease.

At that moment, the gallery door opened, and an unexpected face entered: my former mentor, Meryem Hanım. Her presence instantly tugged at my heartstrings. Her previous critiques had sometimes hurt me, sometimes motivated me. Now, as she gazed at my works in the exhibition, a faint smile appeared on her face.

"Lina… you've really come a long way," she said, her voice soft yet moving. "But I want you to know that as an artist, you still have to explore your own boundaries."

Those words were both encouraging and daunting. Being face to face with Meryem Hanım's gaze felt like an old test. But with a difference: I now had self-confidence, I now saw my own light.

In the middle of the exhibition, a child looked at my wife with admiration and, turning to her mother, said,

"I can do this too!"

At that moment, a warm feeling welled up inside me; I realized that my art could be a source of inspiration not only for me, but for others as well.

Later that day, several art critics examined my works in detail. Some offered praise, while others offered thoughtful critiques. While the critiques were unsettling at first, I soon realized that every comment was a learning opportunity.

As the exhibition closed, as the gallery fell silent, I took a deep breath. At that moment, I realized that this journey wasn't just about displaying art; it was about courage, patience, and finding one's own voice. Meryem Hanım approached me and tapped me on the shoulder:

"You're ready, Lina. But remember, the journey continues."

I smiled and nodded. Yes, there were still new trials, new opportunities, and new surprises. But now I knew that as long as I followed my own light, every new day could be a source of inspiration.
