Chapter 1 - Awakening Ceremony

AWAKENING TEST

The environment was mixed with tension, tears, anxiety, and happiness. It was the graduation day at the Oschetard Mage Academy. Today, great students were joining graduate Mages. Ironically, today was also the day they would know their ranking and class.

"Xavin! Xavin!" a female voice called out. Her blonde hair coated a surge of beauty that could make men fall over themselves for her. As she ran up, Xavin halted his head and saw the female rushing toward him. Her eyes were like the mist of the crowd.

"Xavin, you forgot your pills," she said as she gave Xavin a small container with little tablets in it. Xavin only murmured nothing as he took the container.

"Thanks," Xavin said and turned back to look at the stage. Mr. Criz, the coordinator, was standing on the stage to address the outgoing students. His blonde-brown hair gave him a striking look.

"Hey, Xavin, what do you think you will awaken?" the girl asked, but Xavin kept mute. He was an introvert and was a serious slacker in school. He always failed his exams, and he did not care about being better. His only coming to school was to socialize but seemed to be failing at that too. The girl by his side was Jelehu . She was a brainy in class, but he did not seem to appreciate her concern very much.

"Xavin, I believe you will do great. Despite the fact that you do respond in class, I believe your rank will be good enough to suffice securing you a decent job," Jelehu said and smiled. Xavin only nodded at her.

"Students, today, we access your rank and class. Today, you graduate from Oschetard Mage Academy to become contracted by different organizations. Remember, your rank and class will give you your contract. The better the rank and class, the better the contract," Mr. Criz said. The students cheered loudly as they took his words as motivation.

An orb was placed on a table. It glowed transparently, but it was a rank and class indicator. It could detect the amount of energy in any being. It was called the Learner Orb. Mr. Criz scanned through a list of names—the names of the outgoing students.

"Stephen Uz," Mr. Criz called out, and a young man walked up the stage. He placed his trembling hands on the orb, and instantly, it glowed green. Everyone kept mute as a bold, transparent board appeared in his front.

Name: Stephen Uz

Energy Level: 3,386 EXP

Rank: Platinum

Class: Summoner

Energy Type: Photon Exchange

There was tension, but soon, people began to clap. The Platinum rank was almost the least but noted as a common victory for mages. The most despised rank was Bronze rank, and as a Summoner, he could get a good-paying contract.

Mr. Criz continued to call the students, with majority attaining either a Platinum rank or a Bronze rank. The teachers were disappointed in the performance of their students, seeing that students who graduated years ago had better ranks than this.

So far, they had all students as Summoners, which was a weak combat class, but was actually powerful if trained.

Xavin cared less for the test. He was only concerned with graduating and going back home. Jelehu wished for an Elite rank if possible. She knew she had the energy, but she doubted if it was possible.

Delson approached Xavin with his grey hair swaying faint in the ordinary wind. He loved to socialize. He had seen Xavin as his hardest target to socialize with. This made him want Xavin as his friend.

"Hey, guys. Who do you think will also end up with a Platinum rank?" Belson said as soon as he approached Xavin, who was completely absent-minded.

Jelehu turned to look at Belson, who smiled passively at him. "I hope it's not me," she said calmly.

Belson chuckled lightly. Xavin rolled his head slowly and nodded at Belson. Belson smiled widely. He looked at Xavin sternly, wondering what would happen if Xavin happened to awaken a Bronze rank. That would be good for him as he did not see Xavin awakening a higher rank than that. That would sincere rough grace.

"Delson Stonic!" Mr. Criz called out.

He was one of the great graduating students of Oschetard Mage Academy. Delson walked up with great confidence, and he placed his hands on the Learner Orb. It glowed a bright golden, and immediately, there were cheers from behind. The golden glow signified a Golden rank, a rank higher than a Platinum. The golden letters on the board materialized.

Name: Delson Stonic

Energy Level: 5,761 EXP

Rank: Golden

Class: Summoner

Energy Type: Harts & Carts

Everyone was marveled. This was the best result so far. For a Golden rank Summoner with an energy type of Harts and Carts. Harts and Carts was a special form of energy magic that allowed the Summoner to create illusions that could inflict effect in reality.

"Delson, man!" "You're great!" Cheers rang in from all corners of the crowd.

Delson smiled proudly at them. He was happy that he was appreciated, even though he expected a higher rank, probably a Mercury or Elite rank.

"Toman Jelehu, our finest female student of the year, such a brainy!" Mr. Criz praised.

Jelehu walked up the stage, all flushed with pride and embarrassment. She grabbed the Learner's Orb, and it glowed blue rays. That instant, everyone began to murmur.

Name: Toman Jelehu

Energy Level: 7,106 EXP

Rank: Mercury

Class: Warlock

Energy Type: Trap Energy

The entire school went numb. A Mercury rank Warlock with Trap Energy was rare.

They were capable of creating traps out of void energy. This was a useful form of magic that could be used to trap demons and monsters in void. It was a better way of seizing existence, only that it had a side effect on the Mage. That side effect depended on the form at which the spell was casted. Most demons were stuck in this kind of magic to be studied by Mage scientists and Sages.
