Chapter 314: Ravel's Slip of the Tongue
The palace was vast and cold, its silence broken only by the faint echo of footsteps. At its heart, a young girl sat alone atop a throne, dwarfed by the cavernous space.
She wore a sweet, childlike dress, her small frame almost swallowed by the grandeur of her seat. At first glance, the sight seemed almost comical—a little girl playing queen. But anyone who knew her true identity felt only reverence.
This was Ophis, the Infinite Dragon God. Leader of the Khaos Brigade. A legend made flesh.
"Yo, Boss."
A group strode in from the main doors, led by a black-haired man hefting a battle spear.
"Cao Cao. I remember your name."
Ophis's voice was flat, her expression unreadable.
"Haha, it's an honor just to be remembered by you, Boss," Cao Cao replied, flashing a sly, conqueror's grin. He gestured to the newcomers behind him. "These are our latest recruits. From now on, they'll serve you as loyally as I do—ready to risk everything for your dream, no matter the cost."
Ophis's gaze settled on the new faces. "What do you seek?"
"Grant us power, great Ophis," one of them stammered, bowing low. The others quickly followed suit, their fear barely masked. Even with Cao Cao's reassurances, standing before the Dragon God herself was enough to make anyone's heart pound.
"Power. I give you."
Ophis's tone never changed. She raised her hand, conjuring several writhing black serpents, which darted into the bodies of each recruit.
A surge of energy hit them like a tidal wave. Their faces lit up with wild, almost delirious joy.
It was only a fraction—a millionth—of Ophis's true strength. But for mere mortals, it was unimaginable.
"Hahaha… Boss is as generous as ever," Cao Cao crowed. "I'll take them to get settled, so we won't disturb your rest."
He led his group out, spirits high—only to nearly bump into Vali, who was heading toward the throne room.
"Well, if it isn't our former White Emperor himself," Cao Cao said, voice dripping with mockery.
Vali's eyes flashed cold, but he didn't rise to the bait. He glanced at the new recruits, then at Cao Cao. "Recruiting more cannon fodder, are we?"
"Cannon fodder? Not at all. I just want Ophis to grant them power so they can better serve her. It's a sacred duty—hardly boring."
Vali snorted. He knew exactly what Cao Cao was up to—using Ophis like a puppet, nothing more.
Disgusted, Vali brushed past without another word, heading into the palace.
"Look at him, strutting around after losing his own Sacred Gear!" one recruit muttered, bitterness in his voice.
"Cao Cao-sama, want us to take care of that punk for you?" another whispered, making a throat-slitting gesture.
Cao Cao waved them off. "Save it. You've got plenty of life ahead—don't waste it on suicidal ideas. We've got more important work for you."
Idiots, he thought. But useful idiots—just the way he liked them.

Four girls sat together in Tenra's house, each lost in her own book. Ravel, Kunou, Koneko, and Mira—close in age, classmates at school, and inseparable in their daily routines.
The room was quiet except for the soft rustle of turning pages. But if you looked closely, you'd spot one golden-haired head bobbing dangerously close to the desk.
Kunou, with her fox ears twitching, was fighting a losing battle against sleep.
"Uu… ow, ow…" Her forehead hit the table with a soft thud. Kunou jerked awake, rubbing the sore spot.
"Little fox, nodding off again?" Ravel asked, exasperation clear in her voice.
"M-maybe a little…" Kunou mumbled, cheeks pink.
"Let's take a break. Mira, could you make some tea?"
Ravel closed her book and sighed. Mira nodded, rising with a respectful, "Yes, Ravel-sama," before heading to the kitchen.
"Kunou, if we're going to be Onii-chan's managers one day, we have to know our stuff."
"I know, Ravel-chan. I promise I'll study harder next time."
Ravel seized the moment to lecture, and Kunou hung her head in shame.
"Hmph. You say that every time, but the moment you open a book—out like a light."
Kunou whimpered. "I'm sorry…"
But what could she do? Books just made her sleepy.
"Ravel-chan, you're amazing. You'll be a great manager for Onii-chan."
"Of course! I'll be his indispensable right hand—by his side for life."
Kunou looked up, eyes full of admiration. Ravel puffed up with pride.
"By his side for life? Ravel-chan, you're not getting married?"
Kunou's innocent question caught Ravel off guard.
"Marry? Why would I? I'm going to be Onii-chan's wife. Father and Mother already agreed!"
The words tumbled out before she could stop them. Instantly, Ravel's face turned crimson.
Kunou's jaw dropped. Even Koneko and Mira stared, wide-eyed.
"Ravel-chan wants to be Onii-chan's w-wife?!"
"N-no, that's not— I mean—" Ravel stammered, panic rising.
She'd let it slip. Now what?
"Fried Chicken Princess, what are you hiding from us?"
"Ravel-sama, you and Tenra-sama…"
"Ravel-chan…"
Three pairs of eyes locked onto her, relentless. Ravel felt her scalp tingle—regret flooding in.
If she didn't come up with a good explanation, she was doomed.
