Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"What do you think? Are you willing to take the chance?"

I release a sigh and look at the being in front of me and say.

"Look, I am grateful for you to give me a second chance, but… the world you choose is a bit much, you know? Warhammer 40k is something coming out of a nightmare, you know? What makes matters worse is that you sent me to the Darktide part of Warhammer. Atoma Prime is infested with Nurgle Worshipper!"

The thing hums and says.

"You know what? You are right. I will give you a freebie. I will protect your presence from the warp for the first year."

"Only one year out of my two-year service?"

"What? It is half of it, you know? You will also receive more things from the Chaos Gacha."

"That! That is another thing I am worried about. Anything chaos-related in the Warhammer 40k is bad news."

"That is true. However, it is not related to that. I can assure you."

Should I agree with this being? I don't know if he is a Chaos God or not. However, I want to live once again. Dying from being stabbed by your jealous ex-girlfriend is not a pleasant experience. Do I want to put my soul in the hands of someone who will grant me power called Chaos Gacha?

Fuck it.

"Fine. I am in. However, how do I enter the ship? Unlike the Rejects, I don't have any excuse to join. Don't tell me… You will put me as a convict?"

"No. You don't need to worry about that. I will create an identity and even rewrite a small portion of reality to let you blend in among the crew of the Rogue Trader."

He looks at me and says,

"You shall be a mercenary. You are among the crew that joins the Shipmistress in her journey before she gets called by the inquisitor. You will get a bit of leeway because of this and become some kind of 'civilian' to the Mourningstar. However, once the job for Atoma Prime is done, you need to leave or at least pay the Shipmistress to take you to another planet."

"Right. That is good, I guess."

"Don't worry. I will give you the basic memory that lets you blend in and not be seen as an outsider. So! Do you want to see what kind of powers you will get? Ah, before we do that, let me tell you the basics. There are eight types of tickets you can receive. They go like this from the lowest to the highest: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Legendary, Mythical, and Divine."

He creates floating images of each ticket.

"You can get them through feats like defeating 100 enemies, 100 Pox Walkers, or 100 elites. There are more, but you need to find them out yourself."

"Right."

"However, you don't need to worry because I shall grant you 3 Gold Tickets! Go ahead and let fate decide your new powers!"

A hologram appears in front of me, and I can see the number of tickets I own. Underneath that, I can see a massive box with the word 'Roll' in the middle of it. I take a deep breath and press the roll button.

After a few seconds, a hologram appeared in front of me.

[The Infinite Magazine]

Elite Item

A magazine that can morph into the magazine of any projectile shooting weapon and will supply it with infinite amounts of the ammo it uses as long as it stays attached.

That is… powerful. Ammo is something that I need to worry about when playing Darktide. However, with this, I don't need to worry about it; I only need to worry about the barrel melting.

This is fantastic. I have unlimited ammo as long as I don't lose the magazine. It is a boon but also a curse. If I use it recklessly, the Inquisitor will knock on my door.

I press the roll button once again and watch it roll. After a few seconds, another hologram appeared in front of me.

[Blessing of Hestia]

Rare Trait

You are a child blessed by Hestia, the goddess of Hearth. You have resistance to all mental effects and negative ailments. Your body is way healthier, and people feel more comfortable around you due to the natural aura you have around you.

Perfect! With this, I have a slight resistance against the plague. I don't think it will be enough to block a fully powered plague from Daemon, or worse, Greater Daemon, but I think it can resist plague from the mobs.

It is also good to make me more trustworthy because of the last effect of the power.

With a hum, I press the roll button once again, and after a few seconds, the last hologram appears.

[Battle Growth]

Epic Ability

You are an eternal engine for battle; you grow in power every time you fight. The harder a battle is, the stronger and faster you grow in the middle of it, allowing you to adapt and surpass your opponent. This growth is permanent.

This one is perfect. My first Epic power, and it is great!

"Ah, before you do something, I need to tell you something. Do you see that category next to the tier of your power?"

I look at the hologram and nod my head.

"Yes. Why?"

"Ability is special. You can only have one ability at a time because your ability slot is one. You can gain a new ability slot every three abilities you have."

"Is it only once?"

"No. You can get more slots the more abilities you gain from the gacha. Some of them are activated abilities, and some are passive ones like the one you just got."

"Right. Then how can I use my ability, one other than this?"

"You can switch your ability every five minutes."

"Right. That is good to know."

My patron hums a little and looks at me right in the eyes.

"You know what? I am feeling generous and know you will have problems in the future because of your power. Because of that, I will give you temporary power. It is called The Bubble of Rationalization. It makes everyone around you automatically justify one of your powers as something normal, safe, or gifted by the Imperium. That means you can go all-out using your infinite ammo. However, this power only lasts for three months. That should be enough for you to get a good foundation."

"Thank you so much."

He waves his hand and says.

"Think nothing of it. Now! Your mission. I need you to continue to take missions and kill as many cultists and daemons on that planet as you can. I hate the inquisitor, but some of them are good at their jobs, and Inquisitor Grendyl is among them. However, he needs time, and you will be the key to it. Your job is to make sure to reduce the number of cultists in that world. When you are done, we can discuss your new job or retirement."

I nod and take a deep breath.

"Right. Let's do this. I am ready."

"Good. However, you don't need to worry. When you die, I will make sure your soul does not stay in that place."

That is a relief.

I watch him snap his finger, and my world starts to change. A swirl of kaleidoscope appears in my vision before it changes into a vision full of metal. My nose notices a sharp smell of incense, oil, and rust.

I am here. I am in the Mourningstar.

For you guys who don't know, I took a loan to pay for all the funeral expenses, and I need to pay quite a bit for the first installment. I don't have enough money to pay for rent, the electric bill, and food, alongside that monthly payment. I need your help to pay for the first few payments so I have enough savings to pay the rest without risking my family and me going starving or not paying rent.

For anyone who wants to help me, you can go to my Ko-fi: Ko-fi.com/fangrove

I also post my new Fanfic there for anyone who donates! It will start slow, but I will make sure to write more consistently in the future.

Thank you for your understanding, and I am sorry for not updating frequently.
