After a few formalities, tea and pastries had been served while Zalyric and Magnus sat across from each other, with quite a tension between them. As for Rowan, he was now standing in position behind Zalyric but he was far enough that he couldn't hear what they were talking about.
Just when Rowan's anxiety had begun to eat away at him, watching every second crawl by like an eternity, he saw Zalyric finally rise from his seat. Across from him, Magnus sat still, shoulders heavy and eyes shadowed with defeat. The tension that hung in the air was enough to make Rowan's stomach twist.
'What the hell did they even talk about? What happened in there? Damn it! I couldn't hear a thing! And why does Magnus look like that?' His mind was spiraling, fumbling for clues that didn't exist. 'Come on, braincells, work with me! What is this about?'
He was still lost in thought while desperately trying to piece things together when he suddenly realized that Zalyric was standing right in front of him.
