After gratefully accepting the sword engraved with the insignia of Evadene, Rowan followed a few steps behind the king. Whispers rippled through the hall, people gossiping about the nameless guard who had somehow caught the king's favor.
But none of them knew, of course, that Rowan was no ordinary soldier but a prince in hiding.
"Hm, nervous?" Zalyric asked with a teasing edge while glancing over his shoulder at Rowan who looked far too rigid for someone simply walking.
"Uh no, sir. I'm good, actually," Rowan replied, his voice a little too quick, betraying the nerves he was trying so hard to suppress.
His steps were mechanical, his shoulders locked like a statue while trying hard to look alive.
Zalyric then chuckled softly and shook his head, choosing not to press further. The knighthood ceremony continued smoothly and just like that, three days had passed since Rowan officially became the king's personal guard.
