Chapter 128 - Chapter 128: Here comes Garfield

Meanwhile, above a building in Washington, D.C., a blue pillar of light suddenly shot into the sky. A matching wormhole blossomed overhead.

Citizens in both cities stared at the gaping rifts and panicked.

"My God, what is that? Is that a wormhole?"

"Are aliens invading Earth?"

At the same time, aboard the Helicarrier, under the combined efforts of General Ross and the God of Thunder Thor, the Hulk finally calmed and reverted to Dr. Banner.

Just then, an urgent alert flashed across a nearby screen.

Everyone was shocked. "What's going on?"

While the others looked confused, Thor spoke up at once. "It's Loki's scheme. I'm going to ask him to his face."

He strode off. Nick Fury turned to the team. "Tony, take General Ross and Natasha and get to New York. Captain, you and the Hulk head for Washington. Find out what's happening there."

Thor reached Loki's holding area. Loki was already stepping out of the glass cell. Thor lunged—only for Loki's figure to blur. Thor charged straight into the cell himself.

Glaring at the furious Thor, Loki sneered. "This trick always works on you, brother."

"What are you trying to do?" Thor growled. "What's with that wormhole in the sky?"

Loki smiled. "Do I owe you an explanation? Either way, Midgard will soon be mine."

He turned and left. A few minutes later, Agent Coulson quietly approached, saw Thor trapped, and hurried to release him.

Meanwhile, at the Spider Tower, Maguire and the others also spotted the wormhole high overhead. Seeing the feed on the holo-screen, Maguire's heart leapt. His evil value was about to jump in a huge wave.

Then the display showed Washington, D.C.—there was a wormhole there too.

"What's going on? Why are there two?" he wondered. "Looks like we'll have to split up."

He turned to Garfield and the others. "Garfield—Harry's control is steadier. You two stay in New York. There are a lot of aliens coming through that hole—make sure you keep yourselves safe."

"Got it," they answered.

Maguire looked to Holland. "Holland, you and I are faster. We're heading for D.C."

Holland nodded.

Maguire didn't say that the main battleground for the Avengers would be New York—and he didn't want his hard-earned evil value getting divided up. After all, our Maguire is a thrifty, family-minded man.

Two streaks of light flashed away—Maguire and Holland vanished from Garfield and Harry's sight.

Over New York, Chitauri soldiers poured from the massive wormhole like a swarm, blotting out the sky.

A Quinjet swept into the airspace—Natasha was aboard with a freed Hawkeye and General Ross. Tony had already arrived in the city. Staring up at the teeming Chitauri, everyone's faces tightened.

"There are too many," someone said. "We have to find a way to destroy the wormhole. But for now, we need to stop these aliens."

When the people downtown saw the Chitauri pouring out, they grasped the truth at once. Curiosity flipped to terror; they scattered and ran.

"Heavens, aliens really are invading Earth!"

"Run! Stay safe!"

General Ross leapt from the aircraft. Iron Man shot skyward. Shells and repulsor blasts ripped into the Chitauri in midair. Hawkeye and Natasha maneuvered the Quinjet to strafe the attackers.

Then a colossal shape slid out of the rift—a bio-mechanical behemoth a hundred meters long. A Leviathan.

Seeing the monster, New Yorkers fell into despair.

"What is that thing? It's enormous!"

"The power of this alien civilization is terrifying. Can we really defend Earth?"

"Where are the Avengers when we need them most?"

"Where's the Hellblood Demon? He could destroy these aliens, right?"

"Not necessarily—their numbers are insane."

Worse followed: more Leviathans surged toward the city.

"My God—there are so many! We're only seeing five… who knows how many are behind them?"

Hulk, Iron Man, and the others were already in dire straits. The Chitauri couldn't match them one-on-one, but there were too many; more and more reached the ground.

Just when all seemed hopeless, a figure swung in from afar—Garfield in his spider suit. He landed beside Iron Man.

"Where's the Hellblood Demon?" Tony demanded. "Why isn't he out here fighting?"

Garfield answered him. As he spoke, Harry swept in on a Goblin Glider.

Tony looked from one to the other and sighed. "Even with you two, it won't be enough. There are too many enemies."

Garfield smiled. "Not necessarily."

The next second, something that made Tony's jaw drop happened.
