Ivy's POV
I forced my voice to sound weak and frightened, putting on the best performance of my life. "Please Alpha, I know you were following orders. Tell the truth—I don't want to see you die."
Relief washed over Rober's face while Eric barely contained his reaction. Though his face remained stern, his eyes betrayed the smile he was desperately fighting.
"Well, Alpha Rober?" Eric stepped forward, his imposing figure towering over the other man.
"Alpha Eric—" Rober began.
"King Eric," someone who sounded suspiciously like Ada called from the crowd, earning a satisfied smile from our king.
Rober cleared his throat nervously and corrected himself. "King Eric. I find myself caught between a rock and a hard place."
"Explain," Eric commanded, dragging a chair from the side of the podium. He positioned it directly in front of Rober, sat down, and crossed his arms with deliberate slowness.
"What?" Rober's face went blank.
