We got to the EOCO office around 2:30pm, I was asked to make some phone calls; I called my lawyer, my fiancee and other close relatives in the industry who could offer help.
For starts I was asked some pretty basic questions by the officer in charge. From his line of questioning I realised he was trying to establish intent and motive.
Based on how the line of question were going I opted not to speak further until my lawyer was around because I realised he was trying to incriminate me with his questions.
For about an hour, my lawyer was around, he had some few words with the EOCO team, after a while, I was told I could leave but report the next day around lunch time for a detailed and proper conversation. My lawyer drove me off and explained to me the nature of the case they had against me.
He made me understand that they had realised that I had signed off for the transfer of some funds amounting to over GHc 3 million from the accounts of the firms which they ordered for their files.
He explained to me it was going to be a very tricky case to win since all the transactions had my final approval. Just that moment, I realised I was been betrayed and set up by my subordinate.
Upon reaching my place, the next blow came via mail. My CEO had ordered me to go on leave without pay for an unspecified period of time, a notification from my bank that my accounts have been frozen due to a court order from EOCO. Right at that moment I knew I had hit rock bottom and will have to fall at the mercy of my fiancee and the little 5000gh I had in an account with a credit union, unknown to the EOCO team.
Between January 2019 to October 2019, I had the worst years of my life, COVID was on the rise, I had EOCO and court dates upon dates and worse of all my fiancee started showing her true colours. She broke up with me in the middle of June that year. She said she couldn't bear it anymore, couldn't keep taking care of me anymore.
She had met someone else and would want to move on with him. The pain of the break up for me wasn't even based on the reason she gave, after all, for that I can understand, but the fact that she could over look all the sacrifices I had made for her during our time together. I had sponsored her for 4 years through college. After completing, I got her a job in one of the top banks in the country based on my connections. I also paid for her to charter as a banker, bought her an apartment out of my end-of-year bonuses and incentives which were usually huge. I did all that, only to be left to fend for myself by the one person who mattered to me and even had our wedding preparations on the way.
